I am new to the area and have tried many places. This by far was the best food I've eaten! The portions were well worth the price and although there was a bit of a wait, I was told ahead of time. In addition, it was worth waiting for. I will definitely be returning! Xo

Well, where do I begin. While riding around Old Town yesterday afternoon my wife and I decided to try your Restaurant. We parked around back and made our way up the steps into the building. Once we entered we had no clue as to where the Restaurant actually was. There was no one to greet you so we just wandered down the dimly lit hallway following our nose to the smell of someone cooking. We walked passed a small dining room on the right that had a few people seated at a large table, we thought that maybe this was a private party but once again there was no one to greet you or nothing saying that this was the Restaurant. So we kept wandering in search of the Restaurant and we found nothing, we eventually went back to the dining room and waited. We didn't know whether to seat ourselves. Eventually someone came out of the back and seated us. She took our drink order and told us to help ourselves to the buffet, buffet? Didn't know they had a buffet, she didn't even ask us if we wanted to see a menu. So we went to the buffet line where it was minimal at best. The buffet consisted of the following, Baked Chicken legs, (Broiled or Fried not sure did not eat) Chicken wings, Riblets, Meatloaf, Mac and Cheese, Collards, Cabbage, Sweet Potatoes and a Salad. The Chicken legs were delicious, the Riblets were savory but a little lean, Collards were a little on the tuff side and the Cabbage was good. Everything was seasoned well and the atmosphere was very nice. Just seemed as if they were way understaffed and a little confused. Very polite waitress maybe they will get better and more organized with time. I was raised on Country cooking and was really looking forward to that but unfortunately they just did not live up to my expectations. This review was based solely on our experience from yesterday's Sunday Buffet so I was really torn to give you three stars, Sorry.

Great food like my grandma made. Time is a little lengthy especially with. No tv or entertainment just music but i can live. There is one waitress (the only white girl in the area i think) that knows her job and does it well could be more talkative but oh well the other waitress is very impersonal. She was tAlking on the phone the whole time i was paying my bill... She asked of i enjoyed everything that was it.. Thr kitchen staff was a little loud but its a great atmosphere with great people and vibesI will be back real soon.

Food is bland, food is weeks old, no seasoning, no flavor, no taste. Collards were old and greasy worst taste ever in my mouth! Meatloaf is not a loaf it's a ball with BBQ sauce just covered on top. Mashed potatoes, & collards can be made fresh daily, also meat"loaf". Waited over 30 minutes for food that was probably prepared and served from Sunday. A no go for me. I'm a food critic/blogger and a professional chef. I will never recommend nor eat here again.

Decent place, good food but the staff needs TRAINING. Customer service is shot,dull vibes, and no one is warm or friendly. Owner shows little to no interest in the customers, and portrays a very fake attitude while walking throughout her resturaunt. Customer service is #1when it comes to running a business. You have to know how to talk/treat people inorder to go far in your endeavours.

Best food in Petersburg!! The lunch buffet on Saturdays a definite MUST!!

Highway Robbery Save your money order somewhere else I promise you it s not worth it. Food is okay it s not bad but it s not as good as the name of the restaurant sounds.

The owner is such a sweet lady...her staff is very nice and make sure your visit is PERFECT...THEY MAKE YOU FEEL RIGHT AT HOME

The food was sooooo good! Real soul food!!! Every bite reminded me of my grandmother's cooking, and the courteous staff took me back to Granny's 1st rule of hospitality. It was simply perfect. Fried chicken and Porkchops are on point and I dare you not to have seconds of the mac n cheese or yams!!!

Food was delicious and the staff is very friendly and attentive. A nice homely atmosphere I'm the dining area.

I visited the restaurant on Sunday. The waitress was nice but the food did not wow me at all. They were out of several items on the menu including silverware, because they had a large party before we arrived. The sweet tea was awful. You need.to step up your game to compete with other restaurants.

Nice restaurant. Good food; moderately priced; nice dining area; friendly staff. I have been looking for another good restaurant in Petersburg and Shut Yo Mouf fits the bill. I will definitely visit again.

Service was great!!!! Oh lord the food.....no reason for the salt and pepper shakers on the table.

Sunday brunch was great! The yams, mac & cheese, collards, cabbage, fried chicken, ribs, and ham was delicious. This was our first visit. We will definitely be dining here again.

This was my first time here and the experience was nice. The customer service was nice. Our waitress paid attention to our order and was very friendly. The food was cooked well and everything was seasoned good. The only thing I did not like was the shrimp skewers. They were extremely small. I ordered it as an addition to the meal and the shrimps were very tiny. Honestly if I knew they were that small I would have passed on ordering them. Aside from that the place is a pleasure to eat at and I will return.

The food was good I enjoy the music can add some more on buffet line like turkey wings neck bones otherwise it's all good

They catered my Birthday Celebration and it was good.

The Appearance was Ok and the staff was wonderful however the wait time was horrible I waited one hour for my food drove all the way home just to find out that all of the food I ordered was burnt like how do you do that will never eat here again and please I do not recommend you do either

Service sucked. Mid-day and they were out of food items/not prepared for a days worth of business not to mention a holiday. Food made as ordered understood for the long wait but its ridiculous. Not to mention the sampling that was going on for old Towne, seemed to care more about the people sampling than the people who were there to patronize the facility. Extra care and attentiveness to customers will take this place further. The change in location is not very accommodating. Set up is awkward looks nice but Awkward.

Fried fish is my favorite. Mac and cheese is great too. Always enjoy my visit when in Petg.

This was our first time visiting and we were excited to partake in the all-you-can-eat fish on Friday. We called ahead to get details, less than an hour before we went, and were told that the special was $10.99 for whiting and fries (all-you-can-eat). Once there, we each decided to add a side of cabbage (which was greasy & obviously had sugar added & was a very small portion) for an understood additional charge.

The fish was nice and hot, and pretty tasty. The fries were good as well and we both had water to drink. Our waitress seemed a bit overwhelmed as she stopped coming back to check on us once we got our food and more people came in to dine.

We waited to pay the bill and then we left. Once we pulled off, we realized something didn't add up for our bill to be almost $40. So, we looked at the receipt and we were charged $13.95 per meal plus the additional $3.50 per side of cabbage.

We went back to speak with them about the discrepancy in what we were told on the phone and how we were charged at the restaurant. We were told that $10.99 was the price for the previous day (I found that suspicious because they hadn't advertised any all-you-can-eat special on Thursdays, only Fridays). We were also told that no one there would have given us that information. So, no adjustment was made to our bill. There's no reason for us to have made that up, but we were treated as if we had.

We enjoyed the food overall, but we won't be returning because of this customer service issue. There are too many other dining choices to have to deal with bad customer service.

Food was great. However service needs work. I.e. taking glasses from the table to refill not sure if I recieved the same glass. Just small things. Will be back for sure.

Love this family owed restaurant. My first time there was late 2019 fell in love with this place. It s very cozy. The family there are always so excellent. My favorite to get it s the sweet potato pie. I literally will order a whole pie just for myself. Lol. Just did today. Thank you Shut Yo Mouf everything is always so good.

The lunch buffet seemed a little underwhelming at first inspection but the rest of my party wanted to try it. Boy am I glad they did. The food was incredible. Even the macaroni & cheese! The service was well above average. I highly recommend this place.

Owner makes you feel right at home. Didn't wait long for the food and it was delicious. Will be going back many more times.

It was ok. Need a little more seasoning on the food. More of a selection on Saturdays or a bigger selection on the buffet. Over all it was ok had better and had way worse.

Ordered the shrimp basket for around $15 It came with two sides ...which where Mac and cheese and green beans ...the shrimp were so small I feel like I just paid for 2 /sides ...now dont get me wrong the side where Good ...but if I knew they where selling baby shrimp at that price I would of went with something else ...

If you like a nice restaurant and good food you have gotta go here....all I can say is Yummy!!

I sent an online request for a catering order that I needed the very next day. SYM came thru without a hitch! All of the selections that I chose were delicious. I received my food hot and ready to enjoy. I look forward to upcoming catering opportunities to use their services. The staff were accommodating, professional and my transaction was handled with ease. Thank you SYM!

This was a fabulous time! The performers were fantastic. The venue was gorgeous. The only negative I could say about it is I wish the venue had speakers throughout the huge room. We were seated at the back of the room near the delicious buffet (with made to order omelets) & it was difficult to hear everything going on at the stage and when the performers came down to us it was difficult to associate the vocals with the lip-smacking divas and divos.

A little wait but so worth it! Food and service are both amazing!

Food was great, kept running g out TV so you had to w as it on some things. The building itself is not equipped to hold very many people though.

I have no complaints about the taste of the food..althought the customer service was horrible..i ordered from them twice.. first time was ok through grub hub to my job...but they did not send any condiments, utensils or napkins. Second time i orderd the exact same thing and all my sides were atleast a half portion smaller..my sweet potato was literally this size of a golf ball compared to the first one being the size of a cell phone...so i called to inform them of the portion of my sides..and she said what u want me to do..potatoes are different sizes.. ..no need to say that when you pay your money for something.. its atleast enough to eat..if their tiny..serve 2..absolutely no appology..no empathy in her voice only sarcasm..i will never order anything else from this company....if i could give the ZERO STARS..I WOULD

Brought my son here for his birthday lunch outing. The service was and food were excellent. The decor was very creative

Horrible experience. It literally took them 30 mins just to bring out the drinks and all I ordered is water. The waitress which was the owner never even came to check on us to see if we were ok. Then once we approached her about the situation she tried to say it was busy that s the reason why it took long for our food but it wasn t even busy. Overall, this is the worst customer service I ever received. I will not be returning.

First time there. Very disappointed. Got the liver and onions with gravy, which was very, very, salty. Could not eat it. Didn't want to try anything else. Need additional cashiers. Just so disappointed!!!

I came in Sunday they were a tad busy. One girl. I think her name megan( I apologize bad with names)was alone for about an hour. Before another little girl was able to come in and help out... Plan start times better but she was cool calm collected and friendly. She had 2 really big tables my table and a couple and not once did anyone go with out anything our drinks full everything amazing i was surprised by the excellent service this young lady provided and the food was to die for. Our chicken cooked perfect the collards I need a bucket full and the macaroni and cheese was on point I will definitely be returning to try the pork chops that are sooo amazing( so I'm told) great jobs for a new up and coming business your doing well there's always going to be haters trying to get free stuff out of people by using the web to degrade them.... 100 stars if possible. Give Megan a raise move to new area to get more traffic and travelrs and you will be around for years AMAZING RESTAURANT

Customer service waa great however the food wasn't. The collard greens had a slimy texture. They also were very sweet. Chicken was cold and had way to much salt on it Same for the fish, if you could get around the bones, but way too much salt. Honestly the only decent item was the mac n cheese. Metaballs harder than a rock, cake was so dry. Maybe it waa frozen? Overall I would not recommend this place . Owner was a sweet lady just wasn't pleased with the food. We ended up going home still hungry. Having to make a stop at food lion

We went to Shut Yo Mouf for dinner on June 12 where we were greeted then seated. After a long wait, the friendly waitress took our drink orders. I'm 72 yrs. old and was surprised to be asked for ID. We were ready to order our food, but the waitress didn't come back for an extended period of time. There were only two other couples in the restaurant so no apparent reason for delay. I ordered fried chicken and , after a long wait, the waitress said that the kitchen had no chicken to cook. So, I changed my order to vegetable soup, thinking that would be simple. After another long wait, the waitress reported that the kitchen didn't have vegetables for soup. The wine I ordered never came. After an hr. and 20 min. we told the waitress we were leaving hungry and frustrated. With the exception of the friendly waitress, this was the worst restaurant we've ever been to.

The best restaurant we ate in while in Virginia...the food was excellent!!! The atmosphere was great..I ve had grits before but nothing like the one they make here.. Everything we ate was delicious.. a must visit.

There are two sides to Shut Yo Mouf Soulfood, the service and the food.

Food was excellent. Three people in our party had the liver and onions. They all said the liver was very tender and tasty. I had the grilled chicken sandwich, which you wouldn't think would be that extraordinary...wrong! Honestly it was one of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever eaten. The chicken was tender, well seasoned, and not overcooked.

The service leaves a lot to be desired. Our food took about 45 minutes to get to us. No one ever came to give us a heads up on why things were taking so long. When we finally asked when we should expect our food, we were told it was being plated now. Ten minutes later, we got our food.

Don't get me wrong, everyone there is extremely nice, however, our waitress didn't seem to know what was going on most of the time. We never got cornbread that was included with the liver and onions. One person in our party got the wrong side. The side she wanted didn't make it out to the table until we were almost ready to leave.

I certainly hope this restaurant can work out the kinks in the service side of things because the food is outstanding.

I have tried the home made peach cobbler and was appalled that they sold me store bought peach cobbler. I order was lunch to go on a Thursday. I expected the food to be as good as the buffet on Sunday. The greens were discolored and had sugar in them. The Mac & cheese was full of butter. I posted pics. I'm very disappointed over the trickery of the peach cobbler.... Very disappointed! I do not recommend this place for to go orders. The food isn't consistent. Did I say they sold me store bought peach cobbler already? Go to Croker Spot for Soulfood.

The food was fresh and good but me personally I think they should have just alil more options. But overall it was great. Staff was wonderful.

The food was great. Very nice portions and you can't beat the price AT ALL. The owner and staff were very nice and the restaurant is clean. I watched the owner as people left, throw the plastic table cloth away and put a new one on. I think that was awesome, especially with all that is going on. They seem to be very clean and doing everything they can to keep everyone safe. I will definitely be returning.

For a all you can eat buffet of $14.95, it was worth every dollar. I was a little worried about the service before coming in based on the reviews but the front staff was friendly and made sure I was taken cared of. I'll definitely be back next time
