A little on the pricey side, but everything was delicious.
The employees always make you feel so very welcome. My favorite time is 4 pm with their special menu: Garlic Edamane w sauce on the side. My home away from home place to eat
Great sushi. Elegantly plated with a great variety. Clearly high quality Hawaiian fish. Prices exceed the experience unfortunately. A- sushi at A/A+ prices.
Had such an awesome dinner! How would I describe it....modern Asian cuisine? Everything was delicious! Our server was Teri and she was very attentive....it just adds that much more to the whole dining experience! Also, free parking behind the restaurant in the structure. I wish we had this on Maui!
I remember Shokudo being better when I first went there some years back. I think maybe the quality of cooks they hire need to be evaluated. Sushi on par with genki but way more expensive. Not worth what you will spend
Beautiful decor, great tables for two and for groups, quick and excellent service, fabulous food options and good-sized portions. We had a great time!
The best hidden secret for traditional Japanese food.
I've only ever been here for the happy hour, which is an amazing deal and always a fun little place to come hang out when you are in the ala moana area. Very convenient, fast, and friendly service!
Took my friend here for her birthday. Everything was great. The waiter gave us a great recommendation for saki. The sushi were tasty. The mandoo was crispy and tasty too. The Honey toast is decent just for pics
Terrible foods.
If you want a try your luck, you may visit here and order an udon.
Then Voila! You ll get a piece of iron scratcher!
They just give me another udon and say sorry, that s all.
Was I supposed to yell at them?
But I didn t.
Also salmon salad tasted like car oil or something but they say there s no problem with salmon.
Great. I ve never tasted that kind of thing through my entire life with salmon!
My tongue is no problem at all, for your information.
Go and waste your money and spoil your dinner. Good choice!
Shokudo..
For the price/quality balance
Thoust better instead. Commit Bushido
Despite a humble pleb's reservation
Eek gods! Get the Mentaiko Udon!
Of grand taste. Ye more than Megalodon
I'd also remiss. If I don't interject
Teri grilled salmo
Makes for a tiny tongue Mambo
Sushi is ono! Servings are perfect and price is affordable.
I liked their friendly staff, but taste of foods was just average.
Come early and sit on the patio. Great sushi place.
Love this place food is awesome and servers are on point
Wonderful happy hour. I love their housemade tofu and mochi gratin. Honey toast for dessert is a must.
A tad bit overrated in my opinion. You can find better tasting Japanese food elsewhere. The best part about shokudo is the ambiance, atmosphere, and liveliness. I can't honestly say its worth your money for anything other than a date, and even then, the food is nothing spectacular, in fact its rather disappointing. Honey-toast is awesome.
Mediocre food-- but the servers were great. Go to another Japanese restaurant that'd be more worth your time.
I ordered Chicken Katsu through an online food ordering company for pick up. Upon arriving, the host was busy on a phone call taking details of what presumably was a booking. He then leaves his post to the back of the restaurant 3 times during the next 10 minutes during which time I am simply staring at a window.
When he finally presented my food, he wanted me to pay again to which I simply stated that I had already paid and signed the receipt. The guy didn't seem to know what he was doing or was multitasking because his focus was not on my order. The Chicken Katsu itself was very crunchy. Probably a little too crunchy, and the chicken was IMHO low quality dark meat of inadequate proportion. I felt like I ate more panko breading than actual chicken and was very disappointed with the overall portion size and the overall taste which was again IMHO very bland. I had to use my Huy Fond Sriracha sauce to liven it up.
This place does not feel the same as it used to be. I feel the pricing is way too much for the quality of food you're getting, and the menu items seem basic to me. I feel they will have to make some drastic changes or else people will lose interest. Especially with new options like Gen and Shabuya. My server was great, but the overall experience was okay.
My partner treated me to an amazing dinner here recently. We ordered the lobster roll (would highly recommend and sleep on a bed of these rolls if I could), chicken salad and soba noodles (which was ok) and cucumber salad. We also ordered the signature honey toast which was a first for me. Never have I ever been blown away by toast until now. The buttery and sweet sensation of this dessert will have you wanting to grow a second stomach so you can finish the thing. The only downside was the wait time - some machine (probably the bread maker) broke down and we waited a good 20 minutes. Our waiter mentioned that we were the first ticket in the queue but we saw another table served the toast before us. Putting aside this small white lie, I would definitely recommend this hot spot and return again (hopefully after I figure out how to grow a second belly).
Tasty food good portions at an affordable price. The sushi pizza is quite good as is the gyoza. My wife enjoys the Grilled Yuzu Chicken soba salad and the portion size works well for her though she is a light eater. She enjoys that the chicken is pounded so it is thin and soft though the skin is crispy. The yuzu sauce brightens the flavor of each piece which is complemented by the soy vinaigrette on the mixed greens and soba. I like the Sukiyaki Bibimbap which comes in a hot stone bowl. I let it sit for a bit which allows the bottom layer of rice to become crispy. I mix it myself so I can tailor the spiciness of the Gochujang sauce. The sukiyaki meat melts as you chew it. We tend to pass on the popular honey toast opting instead for the Banana Flambe. For us it's hard to beat caramel and chocolate over vanilla ice cream sitting on baked bananas. Top it off with dark rum that is set on fire causing everything to carmelize. So good only crazy thing is the dessert comes with forks - ask for spoons you will want to spoon the sauces over the ice cream and bananas for every bite. We also don't usually order dessert but this one is worth an exception.
This was the first time for me and my wife. To start we had a bowl of Hot Udon Noodles & Pork Gyoza followed by the Spider Roll & Lobster Dynamite Roll. We loved the first 3 items while the lobster roll was ok. Kaleo was our waiter and was very fast yet not pushy, very informative, friendly and professional. Def recommend!
A causal restaurant that's family friendly. Great staff. Dated furniture. Loud, bright and non romantic. Good for a causal friends dinner.
I used to love this place, steak with daikon, water crest, greatest tofu salad in town. Every thing was simple and perfect.... now it s a zoo. You got food with tentacles, sushi that isn t cut right, fish that shouldn t be served. Sashimi that s served like lasagna. Too much hardworky headachey to my Comrads of shokudo, take pride in your work, if it don t look good don t serve it, when the boss not looking eat it and it was never there! Presentation is key to a wider net. And who s rolling sushi now? Load it up, the company not gonna know but it ll attract more customers to its presentation that s the way we broke their million dollar net record. I know two Micronesians that held that position at night like champs flawless presentations in the most rush of hours I used to prep there so I m detailed, they knew the tricks of the trade. Well to be honest they ran the kitchen single handed when everyone went on break. They knew every station and how to prep them. Shout out to Itamae
Red Eye Roll.
Great attentive service from Teri.
Everything here is amazing. My wife loves coming here during happy hour. Technically you're not saving much $$$ during happy hour since they just serve smaller servings at a lower cost. But I like that because I can literally order 1-2 of everything instead of just a few full size servings.
The honey toast is to die for.
We did not attend this restaurant but for the outside in it looked very nice and lot of patrons waiting to get in
The food here is still great after all these years. The staff are very good. Takes a while to get your drinks so if you're thirsty, order your next one when you're about halfway done.
It's ok, they have some food that I like but it's not what I really like. It seems like it's a place for the younger crowd and more for drinking alcohol. If you like Japanese food I would go somewhere else. Although this place is always crowded. It might be for the Honey toast dessert. There is a decent amount of parking in the connected parking structure but the spaces have been pushed up to the third floor. The parking entrance is on the Kona street side and the restaurant is downstairs just out of the parking structure, on the Kapiolani Blvd side.
Great sushi at good prices. We walked from the Hilton which would be fine but for the over population of homeless on the way. Save room for the honey toast and drive or cab it.
Literally found a baby cockroach inside my son's water. Disgusted from there. Honey toast is bomb though
Dining Post Co-Vid. What's new? Lesser Tables for social distancing. QR Code for Menu is on table for smartphone to scan and download. Lesser choices on the menu. Soy sauce packets. Water glasses are changed regularly. Servers all wear black masks. We enjoyed the dining experience because the server knows what's good and shares his own experience with the food which means that he loves what they have. He knows what to recommend to guests. Overall, the service is great!
If it wasn't for the food, it would've been a much lower rating. After the hostess sat us down, no one gave water or even checked up on us till we flagged a passing waiter 17 minutes from giving us our table. That waiter apologized and said that she'll get someone who works this section. Another 10 minutes pass and a different waiter approached us as we were probably looking frustrated. He sincerely apologized and took our order right away. From then on service was on point. We're not people who needs much attention, its the fact that we were passed by so many waiters and it was us who needed to get their attention to get serviced.
I was here when it first open! Now is kind run down. It was so hot inside that was uncomfortable to sit in. Anyway the food still the same and nothing that wow me!
Very popular Japanese izakaya restaurant in town. Beware the long wait times during busy dinner hours. The parking structure has dedicated stalls for customers. Good quality but there are better options with better pricing. Good drink selections for those pau hana get togethers. The convenient location and parking make this a winner.
Thip Tarako spaghetti was so delicious. The past was al dente, not overcooked, perfect.
They close at 10 and last call is 9 o'clock bue to covid. Inside atmosphere is very cozy, it's like Japanese American bar dinner. Service is good too.
Garlic shrimp rice - hands down my favorite at Shokudo. Then it's the pickled cucumber with ume. And if there's room, the honey toast is pretty good.
The service is always attentive & much better than places like Alan Wong's or Roy's. At least the servers here are happy & greet you with a smile :)
I wanna suggest Shokudo change out their tea thermos. It's pretty darn old. It's all chipped up & it'll add to the ambiance.
Aside from that, a great place a for a late night or drop by meal.
World class service. Our waiter was extremely knowledgable. Food is on point and prices are reasonable. The Japanese bread dessert w/ ice cream was the bomb. Yum.
O.M.G. the lobster dip appetizer is a must. The garlic shrimp rice is amazing. If you like sushi, the sushi pizza was killer. But above all you will regret for the rest of your life leaving without trying their honey toast! It is killer, make sure you save room for this dessert. Decently priced for Hawaii and the staff was friendly and helpful!
This place is slowly lacking. The food is just okay. Their menu needs major updating, the actual menus they give you are falling apart, service is either rushed or takes too long. My last visit they tried to deliver the same food item 3x even though we already had it. I love this place but it is in need of a refresh to keep up with the times.
Great cuts of fish, but it took forever to prepare, to the point where the staff compensated us. The thick toast dessert is something you can't miss.
food was pretty good depending on wat u ordered...fountain drinks were not good...dilution of syrup to carbonation???...sent drinks
bk....short on servers n cooks that day...too bad...
Always a great place to eat for any occasion! Food and service are always excellent!!!
It's located at the corner of Kapiolani and Kaheka right next to Ala Moana shopping center. They have a nice Happy Hour menu that starts at 10 PM...that's right 10 PM. The happy hour menu isn't that big, but if you're looking for a small bite they have some of their more popular pupus available at around . Don't forget to order the honey toast...YUM!!!
Amazing sushi and honey toast. You cannot go wrong with this choice when it comes to sweet sushi.
good place to come for lots of small dishes. a little noisy. they recently re-did their menu.
Food came out quickly. We came in a little late and chilled for a bit and the server was very kind. Food was good, environment was good!
Food is delicious, different variety, need to also try there deserts, price is reasonable
Most of what we ordered was very good. The honey toast, which I usually love, was very dry so it was disappointing. The service was excellent.
Honestly, we came back for the #HoneyToast and discovered so much more.
New menu is modified to include menu items from Kapispa for a limited time while Kapispa is closed. Loved the crispy chix katsu & chino squid pasta.
The only good thing I have to say about this restaurant is one of the hosts was friendly. The staff was rude and inattentive, and the food was mediocre. We were there for almost an hour. The server came by once to take our appetizer order, and he never came back. We had to ask the host for the check so we could finally eat dinner somewhere else. Totally overrated. We only heard good things from our friends. Maybe management changed, because this is the worst restaurant I've ever been to. In the end, the decor, plating, service and food could be compared to a dressed up McDonald's. The chairs even had rips in them. A complete disappointment and waste of time.
Very friendly service and ridiculous happy hour! Even better see night time all you can eat happy hour
I like lobster roll and garlic sesamin chicken and eggplant
It may be different from the time when the opening hours and last order are posted on the shop door, and it may be different from saying the shop's phone (in the case of guidance), so I think that confirmation is necessary!
The food is quite mediocre but the atmosphere is good. The portions are small depending on what you get. I first got a salmon summer sushi and it was small and overpriced. The presentation was very lacking. I wish I had gone somewhere else.
I love coming here. Fantastic time, every time.Their outstanding cocktail menu, lunch specials, and comfy open atmosphere hit all the points on my checklist. My friends & I prefer coming here over anywhere else. Must haves: Cucumber salad More
Our favorite Japanese restaurant on the whole island :)
Highly recommend it - very clean very friendly very tasty and very healthy
We highly recommend this restaurant !!!
Awesome food. Good service. Went around 3pm, before the crowd.
Service was pretty good for a very large group of people. We sat outside...party of thirty.
Great service, got seated and everything situated immediately, great food.
Great service, excellent bento boxes. Fun atmosphere
Had a fantastic meal, with yuzu hamachi carpaccio, salmon & onion salad, and homemade tofu. The food is thoughtfully prepared, and the service was superb.
Two words, honey toast. The food I've had has always been good but I always struggle figuring out what to get, the menu is huge. They have an interesting loco moco. It's a very eclectic menu.
Was bad!
The food was expired when confronted, very nonchalant attitude :/
After tip and whatnot it's $20ish a person
Mahalo I guess?
A nice place to have a quick bite and dessert around ala Moana. The honey toast is awesome and it is their signature dish here. Other dishes are okay and average.
One of my favorite Japanese places to eat with friends..convenient for me..good food and good service..go at the right time and not crowded....
Excellent. Very wide variety of the menu, quick attention!
Super recommendable to go out to eat and have a romantic time as well as with friends
Food was good quality and priced reasonably! I would go again.
Called and told host that we were 5-minutes away with a party of 6. I was not allowed to make a reservation, but told explicitly that tables were available and we would be seated. I also mentioned that I had two young children and that if we had to wait it was okay, we would eat somewhere else - not a problem at that time (6:40p). Arrived around 6:45pm and no table, plus no consideration and only this excuse: We were told that they had multiple reservations at 7pm (after I was told there were no reservations near the time we were coming) and when we walked by at 7:45 the tables were empty.
I will never come back to this place - which I should say has a terrible menu. I conceded to eat there because my wife likes it for some reason. Having a tour company, I will make certain all of my customers know how terrible this place is. I will also be sending a letter to my hotel friends and clients.
I had the bento box with Chicken Karaage, soup, rice, and edamane. It was pretty tasty and the service was excellent.
Beautiful places and sushi is delicious and the price is reasonable. The waiter is quite nice. The problem nay be there are tok many tables and the environment is quite noisy jf most of them are fiiled. Not a good place for having a conversation during the meal.Other things are just perfect.
Great place to eat! Be prepared to spend some money here. The server was very good. She made sure that we got all our food, filled our drinks, and made sure we were comfortable. The food was amazing. And the dining area was modern styled and the restrooms were clean.
