Recommended to visit. The building on the outside is impressive, from 1850. Later it had an interior refurbishment and when you enter it is surprising how modern it is, but functional. It has a space for children, so they can play and read. The reading room is the original, with huge shelves full of books. Precious

My 4 yr old wouldn't leave. We went everywhere.
She wanted to read everything. EVERYTHING.
The building is beautiful and beautifully laid out.
The Discovery space is unique to anything I've come across.
We grabbed some Pillows and read.
In the middle of a big visit to the City, we sat and read The Carnivorous Crocodile.
We sat on the roof and mistook a Greek family for Spanish. We left the roof.
We had Cookies in the Cafe. We left for the Museum and came back after 10 minutes.
I introduced her to the 'Quietest Room In The World', where, unfortunately, she realised She could whistle for the first time in Her life. We left the 'Quietest Room In The World'.
She read every title on the entrance pavement.
It was a whole new world to Her.
Beautiful place. Beautiful day.

Rude members of staff.

Rude members of staff.
I was treated poorly when I approached a member of staff to have my library account number because I had left my library card at home.
Although it had already happened before and never been a problem, the member of staff refused to assist me and told me clearly that I go back home.
Despite being a customer of Central library for 3 years, I did not feel valued at all.

A cool dynamic library that blends the modern with the old. The children's area is very good. Clean bathrooms. You can make photocopies and there are plenty of computers. I did not go up to the viewpoint because it was raining. In the old library the acoustics are wonderful: tap 3 times on the middle column and they resonate for the whole room

I will visit the library on the days I go into town.Though I use the online catalogue to reserve and renew books a visit is worthwhile.New books are readily available, and I often find a book that is new to me.
I also can use the WI-FI to browse the internet.Download onto my phone BBC (Iplayer) programmes without using my mobile data.
I am able to have a coffee and snack using my mobile data..
For visitors the library is a must visit. The reference room is beautiful. One can also look over the city on the patio. For those interested in their families (Liverpool) genealogy the archive staff are extremely supportive.

It used to be a decent place to be in a beautiful building. Post covid:the staff is extremely rude, aggressive and discriminates against certain customers for computer allocating slots. Management should send the staff to a diversity and equality/how to deal with customer basics refresher course, and also tell them to lose attitude and soften the tone. Some don't deserve a job in my opinion when I see how I was treated and spoken to. I will never set a foot there again.

During the visit on Saturday, I just met the event. In addition to the hand-made market, there are a lot of equipment to share, which can stimulate children's interest in science and technology. When visiting the Museum, you may come to feel the atmosphere of the Central Library!

This is the most amazing library I ve ever been in. It is architecturally stunning and holds millions of records in various media. The Reading Room is a must-see (and hear because it s so quiet). The staff are helpful and can answer any questions, or know where to find them.

Normally I would not recommend visiting a library but this one is special. A wonderful mix of the old and the new, with a huge modern library with a glass spire as its feature, nestled in to some of the old library preserved with its lovely reading room complete with circular balcony, wrought iron railings and stair cases to the next level. Just like something from a movie. If you are in the area take a trip in here just to look around.

I found this library whilst revising for a university course.

It is an incredible resource - thousands of book, excellent computer facilities, study space

The environment is friendly quiet and well organised. The staff are well informed and very helpful.

I would thoroughly recommend this library to everyone. In these days of cuts to public services it remains a gem of a resource that should be treasured

Not the quietest library but don't be disuaded. Central Library is well laid out and a very functional space, there are many computers available and plenty of space to work.
The Hornby Library and Picton reading room are very impressive and inspiring spaces to work in.

Love coming into this building for the reading room and the view on the roof terrace. I missed my train and had forty minutes to spare, so I came here to kill some time. I was immediately aware that security were watching me for some reason or other. Everywhere I went they seemed to be behind glancing. It made me feel very uncomfortable and in the end I returned to the train station.

Beautiful library with fantastic resources. Light & airy, it is a great place to read or study. There are plenty of work stations with Internet access. On the top floor there is an outside area with a lovely view of the city. The staff are polite and helpful but if you don't need to ask any questions, you can lend or return books at the self service machines - there's even a 24h return machine outside the entrance. A small cafe is situated near the entrance on the ground floor

Library must. Entering to the right there is a small library to be with the children. Going up to the first floor, on the right we find an impressive circular room full of books. Highlight the spiral stairs inside that allow you to access the high areas of the shelves. You have to go quiet as there are people studying.

Modern library in the heart of Liverpool. Even if you are not a registered member, you can come inside for a coffee. A little tip: if you go to the top floor, there will be an entrance to the terrace with wonderful view and places to seat. Free wi-fi is available in the library and it includes terrace as well.

Impressive library but let down by online borrowing service which is the most unuser friendly site ever. One goes round and round in circles and somehow gets there in the end but never knows how. Needs a thorough overhaul.

Wonderful building inside and out. Although the library is open every day, it's not every day you get to have a behind the scenes tour. These are available during liverpool heritage open days. The refurbishment is amazing, the reading room is a stunning room with a domed ceiling and beautiful wood panelling. There is so much for people of all ages here. Apart from borrowing books as you do in a library, there's a gaming room for younger people, the internet for all, or just catch up with the news with a selection of newspapers, all in amazing surroundings. We were privileged to have gone behind the scenes and have had a great tour guide in Mike. Considering it's free entry it's a must visit.

Why the hell i didn t come here to do my homework all the time when I was at school in the city I just don t know. The Picton reading room is so grand and ornate, one of the most beautiful libraries I ve ever seen. Keeping spaces like this free for all to access is so important, well done to all involved in reopening post-lockdown.

Fantastic library. The new bit has stunning architecture, and the old Picton reading room is beautiful - what you imagine a library should look like. Open till 8pm, has wi fi, computers, coffee shop and plenty of toilets...very handy.

I'm in love with this library! Especially reading room is fascinating.
My only advice is to change the seating arrangement in front of the architecture department. It is very difficult to examine the architecture books.

A stunning library mixing the old with the new. In the old wing, don't even whisper, you'll be hushed by all the people tap tap tapping on their keyboards or reading a newspaper IN A LIBRARY. Lots of books, lots of computers, the modern part looks like the main library in Los Angeles.

I come here a lot to do my revision for GCSE s, and I know that it is a communicable library but today I walked round for an hour and half not able to once get a seat for me and my friends to study, 3 seats we needed!! There were men and women well into their 50s taking up tables just happily sitting there looking at Facebook or teenagers sat on there phones everytime I walked past them, which I did 4 times by the way! I think there s a lot of empty spaces that could be filled with seats and we were in desperate need and ended up having to leave getting no revision done. We tried to sit in the kids discovery area but there were about 5 kids stomping and screaming around and by the looks of it other students had to result to sitting in there because there was a great lack of seats, meanwhile other kids were trying to read! It was too windy to sit on the roof and frankly didn t appreciate uni students and adults giving me cold looks because I was walking round looking for a seat, it s a lovely building but the people who go are snobby as and think they are obliged to sit looking at family history on computers at 50 years of age while I m trying to revise for exams.

Imposing building of the mid-nineteenth century, neoclassical style, its interior impresses by the spaciousness and brightness of its five floors of avant-garde style, its magnificent viewpoint, its study rooms and meetings. It has a magnificent and well-kept selection of books of all trends and times. Computer science links the past with the current way of consulting the topics. For families with small children, it has a space for them, with caregivers and a wide selection of didactic games and participation. Free entrance.
