The best sushi in Seattle. If you have never seen Shiro dreams of sushi, watch it and then come here. Owner has several other places downtown, I find this place the best. Expect a wait unless you are early, stay awhile eat a lot, drink some saki! It's sushi so it's not "cheap" but we'll worth it!

The Japan-uni and scallop nigiri were good. But the local-uni was inedible. I had to spit it into the napkin. Not my proudest moment but I ve never tasted uni like that anywhere. Definitely never eating Seattle uni again

*Edited*
Nevermind. Actually got food poisoning from the funky uni. No bueno.

We ordered the premium sushi course, it was outstanding. It was obvious that each selection was carefully prepared to be absolutely delicious. Our waitress was perfect, she understood that my partner was left handed and arranged the food to be convenient for her.

I ordered my favorite dishes at this restaurant. The service crew was very patient and kind in taking all of my orders. They served the food after 10 minutes. They had fast service. Thank you for satisfying my cravings!

I'm still only 6 months into my Seattle residency, but I still have not found a place to top Shiro's - especially on the omakase front! Definitely sit at the sushi bar for the best experience. I've done omakase twice (beware, it DOES add up quickly because everything is delicious) - and both times the chefs have been fantastic. They are personable, funny, and are very understanding when it comes to things you don't like (uni, for me). Each time I've visited, the fish has been beautifully fresh, and the perfect temperature. They also have a wonderful sake selection.

Shiro's focus is on preserving the integrity of the fish, and highlighting the natural flavors of each cut, so you will not find too many crazy, sauce-laden rolls here - which I personally love to see.

Additionally, I have gone several times (as a party of 2) without making reservations and have not waited for more than an hour. There are many bars and cocktail spots in the area to pass the time. In fact, they do not take reservations for the sushi bar, so do come prepared to wait, especially if it's right in the middle of dinner rush. Anyway, the wait is totally worth it!

Wonderful experience. Staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Prices were amazing for quality of food. We ordered much off the fish of the day menu and were not disappointed. Also ate a few rolls off the main menu. Everything was unbelievably delicious.

One of the best sushi experiences I have had in the US. We had the omakase. Staff was Japanese, attentive, good service. Not cheap, but won t break the bank either, and who really wants cheap sushi, unless you are getting a California roll or volcano roll, etc. Great experience and would definitely go again and recommend to my friends. The sushi was great, melt in your mouth, and flavorful. My only issue would have been the bathroom situation but not that big of a deal, just a shared bathroom with other restaurants and it was decently clean. I would recommend getting reservations, there was a line when we arrived and left. (We had reservations)

Seattle has a ton of decent/ good sushi. Shiro however was our favorite and most visited sushi spot. Their Nigiri/ Omakase pieces and sauce parings were simply yummy. Fish quality in WA never disappoints and while most claim catch or the day- Shiro's fish quality was superb and will melt in your mouth with yummy goodness!!

As you can see from reviews, it worth trying. We ordered Omakasea ($75 per person). Omakasea has 18 pieces sushi and soup. The sushi is incredibly fresh and delicious. You must make reservation in advance, or you will wait at least 30+ mins.

I am so happy we have this new Japanese restaurant in our neighborhood. There aren't alot of good option for food in this area, but this is a legit option for quality ramen and Japanese bowls. They owners are so kind and accommodating when we come with our kids. The interior is super cute too. Will def. Be on my rotation!

Was able to get a table. The place was busy was seated inside while waiting maybe was about 20mins or so. Server settled us to our seats, answered our inquires about the menu and items. Gave suggestions on things.

The place may have been an old diner but it seemed to have been spruced up to have a Japanese feel. I'm certain the staff are all Japanese so it would seem standards in food and service were in line and kept up. The food came out in good time. The sushi was absolutely fresh and presentable. The sushi rice was done right with texture and taste, this aspect in Japanese cuisine in North America is always overlooked.

The taste and selection was good. Pricing was just about right for what you get. Dessert was not a strong point in the meal. This IS a Japanese Restaurant not just a business to just push out sushi as a product but to serve sushi as intended. Don't get me wrong I enjoy some funky rolls (maki) you won't get in Japan once in awhile but sometimes it's good to have things as intended by trained chefs.

If you're in Seattle you should definitely check out the seafood, and the best place to do that is at a Sushi restaurant. This place is one of my favorite sushi places in the city with my favorite being the raw sushi and sashimi is very high quality and melts in your mouth. Also check out the yellowtail collar, its perfectly done and has a perfect texture and tastes great. Also the service here is outstanding and the servers will recommend dishes to you that will taste great. The one downside to this place and why it does not get 5 stars is it is a bit pricey; but overall if you have the cash to blow then go to this sushi place and be impressed.

I haven't had much sushi in Seattle other than the conveyor belt places in Bellevue but the Omikase here was phenomenal and a great value. Maybe not the same ambiance but the food quality is up there with Sushi Yasuda in NYC. Highly recommended!

Definitely a more traditional take on sushi here. Good quality fish, seasonal selections, and the sweet shrimp comes with the head in case you're into that. Going the omakase route is recommended.

We waited half an hour before the place is opened to be the second in line to be seated at the sushi bar.

Each course is very fresh and delicious. There is one fishbone and one tiny piece of fish scale, so minus one star. It s kind of cold waiting out there so I d probably try sit at the dining area next time.

We ordered Omakase (Chef's choice) dinner. When the sushi arrived, they specifically told us not to put any soy sauce or wasabi because they seasoned it with their special sauces in front of us. The fish was fresh and the rice were in bite size. Service was fast and on point. Great experience!

Had the premium sashimi, yellowtail collar, and agedashi. Everything was fantastic and was really nice to know where all the fish were caught. Fish had s great flavor and texture. Will definitely go back for the omakase. Note that they only have limited supply of collar and is definitely good here with the perfect amount of crunchy crust and moist tender meat.

Was walking towards another restaurant about 10:30pm and passed by this place and it was nearly full! So we took it as a sigh that it must be good. We walked in right as a table opened up so we didn't have to wait at all! Can't complain after eating there. Definitely authentic sushi. The only difficulty we experienced was in understanding our server she spoke very fast and, because it was busy, after telling us what each thing was she quickly walked away despite my attempt to stop and ask for clarification. Food was well presented and tastey

The food was amazing. Unless you're willing to go to Japan it probably peaks here sushi wise. Everything had a specific garnish or sauce which paired perfectly with the fish. The chefs at the sushi bar were fun to talk with, but also let you have your own conversations and gave really great advice for what to have. The fish was amazingly fresh and light. The best food I've had in my life.

I brought my husband here for his birthday because he's been wanting to try it. WE LOVED IT. It is honestly an experience. Especially if you don't often encounter quality sushi like this. We both had the omakase, which Shiro is known for. I don't remember how many courses came out, but each one is exquisite and the server will explain each course and tell you the best way to eat it. The fish seriously melts in your mouth and even the SOUP is amazing. I tried fish I would never try normally and loved each one. My husband was in bliss. Their unagi (eel) is...indescribable. Just go for yourself! We're worried about eating sushi elsewhere after this...I guess we'll just have to go to Japan lol.

As a TN resident I have few good sushi options. For my trip to Seattle I read all the reviews for the best sushi in Seattle and Shiro's was tops.

I went to the sushi bar and ordered the omakase, leaving my dinner's fate in chef Aaron Pate's good hands.

This was by far the best sushi I've ever eaten and I love sushi. I never had a need for soy as I sampled so many different pieces of the local fish.

This was one of my favorite meals ever. Five stars are not enough.

This was on my shortlist and after getting encouragement from a handful of locals that this was indeed the sushi spot I needed to check out while in town, thankfully was able to get a table for 3 on short notice early in dinner service.

Difficult to tell from the photos but opted for the evening's omakase selections, being this close to the water I opted to let the chef make the decisions of what was best on my behalf.

Everything served was amazingly fresh, innovative, and an attention to detail without being exceptionally overbearing. The quality of the food here is top-notch but not an over-the-top dining experience.

Friendly and patient staff. memorable food. Would highly recommend and will definitely return.

This is definitely one of the best Sushi places I have ever been too. The place is tiny and you definitely need reservations. We had the premium Sushi plate which came as 18 pieces of nigiri, soup spread over 6 courses. It was incredible and included mostly high end portions and fish. The server did a great job describing every piece and where the fish was sourced. If you're visiting Seattle or happen to live here you absolutely must give Shiros a try, you can't possibly be disappointed.

Everyone in my part had the omakase, and it was fantastic. The atmosphere is a bit close quarters. Our server explained everything clearly, and we had had just the right amount of food by the end of the meal. I don't typically like raw salmon, but the salmon course here made me a believer.

One of my favorite spots for quality sashimi and sushi. Reservation process was easy. I arrived early and was given a cup of hot tea to drink while I waited for the rest of my party.

The sushi and sashimi were fresh and delicious. The service was super friendly and efficient. Highly recommended!

Tried their premium course, $75 for 18 pieces. We were pretty full after that. The place is good for eating with friends. A little bit too noisy but overall a good Omakase experience. Oysters were fresh and well-seasoned.

What a treat! Best sushi I have ever eaten. The quality of the seafood was the highest I've experienced. Server patiently and clearly explained every offering. Be warned tho, if you want to eat at the bar the lineup starts more than 30 minutes before open.

We had the 18-pieces tasting menu for the tables and had a great time. However, we waited 20 minutes to be seated despite making a reservation 1.5 months in advance. My husband also found a very long fish bone in its salmon sushi piece. I found the apologies quite disappointing and wished the restaurant would have gone one step further to ensure a delightful experience. Will not be back.

My wife and I have been eating sushi in every single place we have ever been to. From South America, to New York, California, Washington, Oregon, Montana, Colorado and out of all the places we have been this one has been the most disappointing of them all.
Service was terrible! Made us wait for over an hour to even get out appetizers.
The menu you see online is not the real thing. A lack of variety and flavor.
Way over priced! Do not be fooled by their very long waiting list is not worth it.

If you are new to sushi, this can be your starting point. If you are familiar with sushi, this may be your average meal. We ordered the Omakase there, yes it is a bang for buck, 18 pieces for sth like $70 that includes 2-3 nicer fishes, but they will rush you to finish the omakase in 1 hour, where all 3-4 sushis come in the same time, as we were not sitting at the sushi bar table, our server keep serving us the next "plate" of sushi even we are still on the last plate. Feels more like they want you to finish and just return the table for another round of customers, don't expect anything about dining experience.

Food quality is overall ok, no complains.

Damn, this place was good. I've never had the money to try a tasting menu before but decided I should treat myself to this for my 25th birthday. Highly recommend arriving at least 15 minutes before opening to stand in line. A few plates are not pictured because I'm terrible at remembering to take photos. Full belly, satisfied, and the customer service is phenomenal. Oh, and absolutely worth it.

you wouldn't think there would be much difference between sushi. There's better sushi, there's worse sushi. This was light years ahead of everything else. All the fish was amazing, everything was perfect. Its also refreshing to have sushi the way it used to be when i was younger. No mayonnaise, no inside-out rolls, no fully deep fried rolls; just strait forward nigiri style. absolutely wonderful.
