Dr Douglas Rittenhouse and his staff were amazing! They were all very friendly, patient, knowledgeable, and professional. I came in for a surgery to remove my left ovary and I was very scared, but the nurses were all so friendly, nice and hilarious that they made me forget all about it. I highly recommend this doctor he's very talented and professional

Attn: Mr. Karl Kim

Seton Medical Center
1900 Sullivan Ave,
Daly City, CA 94015

REG: Penitent name Sharlene Loo
REF: Radiology Department

Dear Mr. Kim

My name is Sharlene Loo I was at the hospital on Feb. 20, 2018 to do a CT abdomen wi Barium wo IV contrast it also mentioned on the order that it was WITHOUT IV, I did not realize until I got home.

First when they called my name I went in and changed, the gentlemen guided me in to the lab and asked me to laid down on the scan bed, after his assistant came by and tried to put a IV needle in my veins, instead he put in on my upper below, he tried to popped in my wrist bone, I was in SO MUCH pain, I keep shout Ouch, every time he touch it, afterward he put it out from my wrist, then the first guy put the IV on my right elbow, which was the right way to do it. I m sorry but I don t remember their name.

Afterward I tried to ask the administration office and I mentioned this matter to Ms. Sandy Win, she replies to me why did they do that? He was not supposed to do it there, if I was a nurse I would have them tell the guy not to do that but I m not, I felt no concern what so ever.

As a patient when you go in to the hospital you expect people to know what to do, but in my case I was in Pain.

I bring this attention to you is because I don t want anyone to have to go through what I did today. When someone works in the hospital you should know what you need to do because patients depend on hospitals.

Your attention is greatly appreciated in this matter.

Sincerely,

Sharlene Loo

Sorry for the heavy stuff.

Sorry for the heavy stuff.

My landlord's friend's brother is passing, and my landlord's friend is in a wheelchair (and her mother uses a walker) and they both wanted to visit her brother and her son while while they still could ( so I was asked if I would be willing to accompany them as my landlord isn't able to help two older people with disability).

The hospital is somewhat on the smaller side, so are the rooms and the number of staff.

However, to my pleasant surprise, the staff was very considerate, helpful, and was quick to resolve problems and to service our needs. Literally all of them were willing to help.

Of course this was only a visit of a few hours, so it may not serve as a perfect example, but if this is the norm, I highly recommend the place, although it is a little far to get to from San Francisco.

Shady on their billing.. Beware and keep all your paperwork. Even if you have good insurance! I paid a full years deductible and they bill me still . My own Insurance Company supports me and wonders why I was billed. After I paid a large lump sump of money to them up front in the beginning of the year for covered services, Seton still billed me . My Insurance also paid them for the same visit that I paid for . Will be paying them a visit to demand a refund. I never went back here because I feel disgusted that I once trusted this place .. I had all my children here, but honestly I don't know what happened with their billing department but I hope they aren't doing this to anyone else... Billing the patient and their Insurance companies fraudulently

They cancelled my second trimester ultrasound by letting me know at 3 30 PM the day before my 9 AM appointment all because a member of their staff failed to look at my file and call me with questions regarding my insurance. VERY UNHAPPY, this is completely unprofessional and frankly the stress it has caused me is not good for my baby. Glad to see the system works.

They do not tell you in very clear writing that they do not do preventative care or physical examinations and cannot perform sleep studies at the facility. This information is neither immediately apparent from a quick review, and not something that even insurance providers mention clearly. Three different staff members told me three different things about what they offer. Visiting on a Sunday means you will not be able to use their front desk from the main entrance and there is no staff immediately present at the front of the emergency room entrance as a walk-in. They do not register you as a new patient before a diagnosis is conducted prior to. This is not a 4 star facility.

My husband was admitted on Saturday night due to a seizure. It was his first ever episode and we were scared. The staff was good and tried to be supportive. The doctors are a joke. ED said they were going to admit him as the neurologist recommended so he could have an mri and eeg the next morning. The hospitalist came in the next day telling us that there wasn t anybody to do the MRI or EEG as those depts aren t staffed on the weekend. Seriously? So we were urged to stay another night, which we reluctantly agreed. We find out this morning that they can t do the MRI because of a heart valve he has, that was communicated multiple times with the EMT s, ED staff, and the nursing staff on the admitting floor. When we ask why this wasn t discovered days earlier they said they didn t have an MRI tech on duty to let them know his valve was incompatible with their machine. We will not come back to this hospital. They are only after the money and they way they treat the patience and the dilapidated, seriously outdated building shows.

I was given immediate attention and the procedure went exceptionally well. I stayed overnight in the ICU unit; my visit was for about 18 hours total. The ICU staff was as caring and light hearted as one could hope for in any medical situation. Compared to past hospital stays I've experienced this one was the most enjoyable.

The service is really horrible and terrible at seton medical center. Emergency room patients are screaming because they are ill thats why they come to the hospital. Without doing anything, give them pain medicine and send them home. . You let the ER know their primary doctor needs to be notified, they don't even notify their doctor. Thwy steal your money. Send you this big bill for almost $ 3,00,00. It's a shame thwy rip.poor people like that. People don't have monwy. Service is very disgusting, nasty, horrible and terrible in the ER. Don't ever go to that hospital. When they put you in the room , thwy put you in with in the room where there's men also in the room. Rooms not clean either. It's like patients are a sick garbage to then. Putting females in the room with the males in the room. Its only money important to them. That's what they love. Money, money. Had very bad experience from other people also. How disgusting service at seton medical center is. They even told me dont go to that hospital. I've been to San Mateo county hospital in san Mateo
Excellent service.

This hospital really sucks, their doctor was more interested in getting his paper work done than treating my brother in law for his pain. They are careless and super slow. They do not care enough about their patients, instead they d rather focus on their paperwork than the suffering of their patient. Not the best choice to go here.

Before midnight staff was mostly ok. After midnight we were lucky to receive help when we called at 90 minute intervals. After midnight staff never introduced themselves, were abrupt, and uncommunicative. At least one Nurse or assistant didn t seem fluent in English. They also suggested a five minute procedure, which we said yes to, then proceeded to ignore us for three hours when they finally did the procedure which led (properly) to almost immediate discharge. Seven hours - at least five of them totally unnecessary and entirely because they seemingly couldn t be bothered. Really. Not checking on an ER patient at least once an HOUR? Not even a head-in-the door? Smacks of incompetence, patient neglect, and understaffing at least. In general, communication was abysmal. Equipment has seen better days, and is not all near state of the art. Most important: don t let a patient go alone! Staff won t necessarily monitor them. We didn t have a choice - if you do, go elsewhere. As a caregiver I ve spent way too much time with patients in ERs. This was by far the worst experience I ve had from a patient care and customer service perspective. I admit they were busy - with patients stacking up in the hallways, another reason to choose elsewhere if you have a choice. But being busy doesn t excuse unpleasant and uncommunicative staff.

I have received great service from Seton Medical Center - treated with kindness and respect from doctors and nursing staff. After two recent stays--the emergency room staff, doctors, and nursing staff deserve kudos for the pleasant demeanor and efficient skills. The staff goes beyond expectations in regard to caring for you.

This is the worst hospital I have ever been to. The ER staff are so unprofessional and made us wait for more than 30 mins while my sister was having a severe allergic reaction and was about to become unconscious. They are absolutely terrible and their wait time for an emergency while no other patients were there is unacceptable.

I've had records lost every time he when having blood work done even though the receptionist was very nice and personable. I've had poor experiences with a couple doctors in OB/GYN clinic and staff members there. They were rude and uncaring when I became faced with a crisis with my health. They treated me like I'm some sort of imbucil. One doctor was kind. But honestly couldn't set foot in that clinic again and the one doctor I did like was suddenly no longer available. I think she was on maternity leave.

I was admitted to Seton Medical Center in Daly City, CA in August of 2014 and I can't began to to explain the level of great service that I received from the staff on the 6th floor for heart observation. I was there for 3 days and received excellent service around the clock. I want to thank all of you because l know that it takes a team of individuals to come together to make this happen. Everyone performed efficiently, effectively, and professionally. Thanks again to all of you. You really made things easy and comfortable for me.

I was involved in a minor scrape that involved a 2 x-rays to ensure that my arm was not broken, as well as 9 stitches on my face. I spent 3 hours in there. When I got the bill it was over $8,000+ ! THEN I get another bill for $2,000 for the same work description!! I feel robbed and taken advantage of.

I'm giving 3 stars because it's not the worst hospital ever.. I went in to the ER because I fractured my foot and I waited in the waiting room for about 2 hours; this was my first hospital ER experience. It was painful but I know all the doctors were busy so I couldn't be seen right away. I was seen by the nurse and the doctor and they were friendly. They are always busy so if it's a long wait don't get upset at them for doing their job. I went in around December and it's February now and I still haven't gotten a bill in the mail for some reason...

If I can give you negative stars, I will! Dont go to this hospital!!(ER)

One word: MISDIAGNOSIS- that could ve cost my baby s life!

I was misdiagnosed when I went there because i had moderate bleeding at my 9 weeks pregnancy. They didnt even show me the ultrasound of the baby and even my blood works. How were they even able to tell me that I had an incomplete miscarriage and recommended me to have a D&C surgery. It s the worse!!!!!!! You have all the equipment but obviously the emergency doctor wasnt thorough enough. I was pregnant and life was at stake! You couldve been more thorough! How is it that the OB with the same ultrasound equipment in a different clinic was able to tell right away that my baby was alive?! And was able to show me the heartbeat!?!

Never will i go to this hospital ever again. NIGHTMARE. The stress you have caused me is just too much!!

I provide in-home care support for a woman whom is a friend of mine. As a child my friend has had hip surgurey, . So she has metal in one hip, She was nine years old then. Most recent approx. 7 years ago she had surgurey to one of her ankle's. This was due to a fall. And she now has metal in that ankle. In the past month and a half she has been in terrible pain, and almost unable to walk. ( meaning she can't even walk from her bedroom to the bathroom without practically falling down ) So it was obvious that something was wrong. I told her not to worry because she did not have a broken leg, or legs. And she isn't parralized. Because she was scared that she would never walk again and she is only 43 years old. I took her to Seton Medical Center. I brought her inside, got her all checked in, and to her room waiting for the doctor to come and examin her.I left to get something to eat. (knowing I did'nt need to stay and speak for her, because after all this is a hospital , right? And doctors know what to do, right? And Im no dotor but common sense would be seeing that this woman is is pain, X-RAY her. Right? ) But no. I return 25-30 minutes later and she is already out of her room and in the lobby in a wheelchair crying waiting for me. The anger I felt was so bad that I was scared I was going to lose it. She told me the female doctor was rude, and every time my friend would say something, the doctor, would roll her eyes. The doctor said she can't give any pain meds to my friend. My friend was'nt asking for pain meds, she's there because she wants to find out whats wrong with her. The doctor then said she believes my friend is faking it and is just trying to get pills because she's seen her type before. And then released her. When I went to push her outside in the wheelchair, she said NO.The security guard told my friend she could'nt take the wheelchair outside. (reason unknown) So after taking my friend for an M.R.I. a few days ago at a different medical center, she got the results back Today. And what they said is, my friend has a broken disk, and a small piece of bone is broken off. He also said that he could'nt believe how she could bare the pain, because a broken disk is one of the most painfull injurys. And he told my friend she will walk again and he will fix her. Today was a very happy day for my friend. Seton on the other hand, well, I'm still in shock. I thought a hospital is suspose to be proffessional, with proffessional people. Well it's not. And want others to know how they treated my friend when the whole time she had this serious injury and was in constant pain. Thank You Ron Hipskind

This is a great place to go if you want to get killed. I had an appendectomy about 10 years ago and ended up in the ICU thanks to the idiot nurse screwing up my morphine shot. The staff in the ICU hit my incision several times. The follow-up visit was in this crummy, hot, doctor's office. He showed up 40 minutes late to the appointment with a small waiting room filled with people (standing room only). I ended up setting up a payment plan to pay for my week and half long stay. I made the payments on time and each time I sent a check they would end up sending me to collections right off the bat. When it was their fault for not processing the check in time. If something ever goes wrong with me again I'd rather do the surgery or care myself than go back to this hell hole. Do yourself a favor and find another place to get your care.

Worse place to be !!!!!!!!!! My poor mom had a knee surgery else wear and was having severe abdominal pain and vomitting . We admitted her at Seton hospital early morning around 6:40am after requesting the on call nurse to take her condition serious ( cause no nurse was taking her in ) since she was getting dehydrated severely. The morning shift nurse who attended her was very rude and would not give her warm blanket after requesting for another since she was extremely cold from dehydration. Instead kept telling us that she is busy- ha! Really !!!The nurse is to busy for an ER patient who recently had a knee surgery and was throwing up and having sharp stomach pains and not to mention- DEHYDRTED! Anyway, then after 7 hours of tiring stay in the hospital she was discharged and was prescribed Ondansetron for vomitting. It has been more than 24 hours that it still is not authorized by the ER physician because the Walgreens pharmacy wants the physician to approve it by calling the pharmacy and the pharmacy wants the physician to call them. My Mom is still throwing up and is getting very dehydrated because she can't retain anything in her stomach and these both (the hospital administration and Walgreens pharmacy ) bozoes are playing tag with the us and wanting us to pay full price for the medicine then writing a generic medicine instead that won't take a minute but would rather have us pay $60 we bought two and then the pharmacy said we will have the rest get approved by the physician and they have faxed it to them but still until now - it has been more than 24 hours no answer on prior authorization . I am in Kansas and trying to help my mom get the prescription but they wont take care of the problem themselves rather wants me to call the pharmacy from Kansas and when I have more than twice- waiting on phone answer from pharmacy in an hour ( let alone my sister separately )then they tell me to call the physician because I have to and back and forth. This is NOT patient responsibility or their relatives to make both the parties ( Walgreens and hospital physician)to come to a common ground to give patient care to get their damn pills. Incompetent people!!!!! I would not recommend this hospital one bit unless you want to die here !

Have you ever been to Seton Medical Center emergency room? If you have, you are well aware of their very low standards. They make you wait hours on end no matter how serious your health issue is. They also routinely misdiagnose, and try to inflate your medical bill with unnecessary treatments and tests. The staff makes you wait, and wait, and wait...Over all they provide very poor service, they are rude to their patients, and try to rip-off unsuspecting people who have serious issues of pain, and need help immediately. The staff at Seton does not really care about helping those in need. Seton is definitely a terrible place to go, especially if you want honest-caring help, in a timely manner, for a reasonable/honest price.

Incompetent billing department. They sent the wrong bill to my insurance and were not able to get fully compensated for the service. The insurance company told them how to correct the paperwork so they can get paid. It's been 6 months now and they still have not been able to correct the error. In the meantime they keep sending me bills for the unpaid amount and now threatening to send my account to collections. I keep calling them monthly after I receive each bill and they keep giving me the same story - someone is working on it, you can ignore the bills. But now I get these threatening calls. Time to get legal help.

I have mixed feelings about this place, most of them was positive and few negative. I was admitted there for Pancreatic Inflammation as an emergency patient. Let me first tell the positive part.
POSITIVE PART: Staff were caring, helpful and working very hard and I used to feel that they are working harder than they are asked to do. My big thanks to the cleaning staff and the nursing staff. To name a few, thanks to nurses Vicky, Grace, Young, George, Saki, Gala, Katlyn, Khine, Robert, etc for the good care they gave during my days admitted there and also thank nurses Maria and Kristin for caring during Round 2 of my admittance to hospital. Also thankful to cleaning staff Hannah who went above and beyond despite facing health issues herself. My Doctors were Dr. Tscuchiyose, Dr. Gupta, Dr. Sydorak and Dr. Kelly. Practitioner was Dr. Evelyn. The staff members combined were great and helpful.
NEGATIVE PART: Too much back and forth with billing department -I am still going back and forth with them to make sure that they don't charge me more than the Out of Pocket Maximum of my Insurance. The first bill that came to me was around 3-4 times more than the out of pocket maximum. I have told them to correct the bill and properly submit the claim to my insurance and still working on it. Another headache I have is with Credence Ambulance which brought me to the hospital as an emergency, because even-though I don't owe anything to ambulance company, they are wasting my time by making me mediate in discussions between Ambulance Agency and United Healthcare Insurance. Atleast in this regard, Seton Billing Center has been decent because they did not make me mediate in their discussion with insurance company.

UPDATE Dec 11th: Billing issue resolved between hospital and insurance. I don't have to pay anything more than the out of pocket maximum amount.

No stars. Horrible place. My mother was there for 4 years.. She didn't eat for 2 months (Dec 20th,2014 through Feb 28, 2015) not even water.
We were told that she received complete nutrition through a tube, but she was 80. She suffered many infections and pneumonia because she did not have the strength to fight them and heal.
My mother passed away on February 28th, 2015. She should have died with grace and dignity, respect and compassion. Instead she left this Earth hungry, thirsty, unhappy.

The people in the registration in the Emergency Room are not empathetic and very rude. It seems the other one is a racist! He was shouting at me while I am wheeling in my patient. I am a caregiver yet I am employed by my patient not by them. He was like yelling and thinks that he knows what he was instructing.
My patient was in a lot of pain and the doctor came in and tried to help her as soon as she can get her hands on her. We had to tell the Nurse that the patient needs her medicine already. It was a 40 minute wait already!

I had a L5-S1 fusion with hardware by Dr. Reynolds and Dr. Shofferman from "SPINE CARE" in the late '90's. Awesome Doctors and Seton nurses did a great job, especially since they had to put up with me because I developed a tiny fever that prevented them from competing the "360" surgery, which added 1 week to recovery.
The nurses were so nice, friendly, and Doc. Reynolds was spot on.
Counting on him to be spot on again at the end of this month to reconstruct/revision a botched surgery from a local (Redding) Dr.

First time patient of Seton Medical Center. The worst experience of my life!!! STAY AWAY, PLEASE GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!

Waited there for 3 hours and the physician who saw me said he was sure I had the flu. He said he would call me with the results and sent me on my way with medication.

Never received a call and when I called back ilene told me he results were negative. When I asked for next steps she hung up the phone. I asked to speak with a manager Mr. Brown but he seems to never be in the office. They transferred me 10 times within a 2 hour period and he did not answer the phone. There's also no other managers or supervisors in the ER.

Their answer to my solution is to come back to the ER or to see my regular physician. So basically they want another $2k+ to not do anything.

Now I'm feeling worse than I did yesterday, I missed a day of work, and I still don't know what I have.

THANKS SETON!

Avoid this facility unless you absolutely have to go there and have no other alternatives. We had a 92 year old mother that was admitted there for pneumonia. She normally uses a Mills Hospital and her doctor is there , but the ambulance took her here. We had no problem with the quality of the medical care but the problem came into play when releasing her. It appears there were doing everything in their power to find other things wrong with her and order additional tests not needed in order to suck on the insurance. If she simply had Medicare they would be trying to push her out the door. We had to threaten legal action to finally get a release and even then, they messed up on the code for the oxygen to be delivered when she was to go back home so this delayed things an additional 2 days. It is a well known fact amongst doctors in the community that Seton has a poor reputation.

My sister took my Mother there because mom was coughing. They said she had severe pneumonia and that we just have to expect the worse. They transferred my mom to St Francis Hospital. and now she is recovering. Thank you Jesus! I will never bring a family member in this hospital.

ER service is a long wait around 3 hours from the time of providing the insurance until you walked out that dirty ER room. I was here on Friday, 27Sep2019 for my lower back pain. The PA who helped me was PA William Li and not helpful. He asked me a lot of questions but did not really check my lower back. I asked him if I could see a Nurse to check my lower back and waist it seems swollen. The nurse is a traveling nurse, Sheila. I was pleased with her assessment but William Li, literally not helpful. He said, they only treat trauma in ER. Seton, why PA not a doctor? Are you guys saving money? Seton ER you have failed me.

Went with severe abdominal pain. Sat in a freezing-cold exam room for hours. Only acknowledgement from a nurse was "honey, does it really hurt that bad?" 5 minute cursory exam from a doctor, but no x-ray that would have revealed the TUMOR found by San Mateo ER. I paid hundreds of dollars for this mistreatment. Please, please go elsewhere, for your own safety.

I had a really bad experience at this ER a Friday night. I went there according to my health insurance after my finger was wounded. After an X-Ray, the diagnosis was a broken bone and laceration. After cleaning the wound, the doctor put 4 staples on my pinky, gave me antibiotics for 7days and told to have the staples removed in 7days. As I was worry about seeing the flesh out the injury, I showed my regular doctor my finger and he urged me to meet a hand specialist doctor. I did and the specialist said they did a really bad job because it's totally abnormal to put staples on this severe laceration! ER also never told me to keep my hand raised and immobilized. Because of that, my finger was still swollen and the specialist couldn't remove the staples, so I lost at least one week of healing. I'm still worried of my next visit to the specialist and I hope I wouldn't have bad consequences following the bad job done by the ER. DON'T GO THERE, please!

I was a patient in the ER and was treated very quickly and thoroughly. The staff was very nice and efficient. I hope I don't have to go to the emergency room again, but if I did, I would go to Seton again.

I was in here when urgent care for roughly ten minutes. The doctor listened to my symptoms, suggested I had stomach ulcers, then gave me an antibiotic prescription and sent me out the door with no tests. The bill was over $1600, primarily for "miscellaneous fees," whatever the hell that is.
