Great place, friendly staff. Ask about hudson grotto.

I went here to become certified in open water diving (PADI). I opted to take classes one-on-one with Derek in the grotto. The price difference between attending a group class was worth having the dive instructor's full attention. I was very nervous. But, Derek made sure to help me with my skills until I felt comfortable and competent. He takes his job very seriously and made sure that I was in fact safe before licensing.

During my training for 3 days a gentleman named John also assisted in the training this was also very comforting to know that there were 2 experienced divers in the water with me.

I enjoyed my dealings with Jeff the owner and Christian who both showed genuine intrested in my passion for being a diver.

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and I am looking forward to doing business with these gentlemen for a very long time.

Friendly folks and a nice shop. These guys operate Hudson Grotto. It's a nice local training site for me. Let's face it, it's not Key Largo. However, the price is right and (for me) it's close to home.

4 stars instead of five because they really need to clean up the topside area of the site some.

From the very second we walked in we were treated like we had been going there for twenty years. They treated us with kindness and respect, he did not push us to buy anything we did not want. You could tell his main goal was that we were happy and comfortable with the equipment we bought. Some of the best customer service I have received.

Jeff and his staff are wonderful ! It's definitely a fun interesting place as visibility is low for 40ft and clears up below that and O so dark ! Have fun be safe! Great spot.

I went to the store because I missed a flipper and the super friendly owner gave me another pair of flippers to continue the course .., that was very human, I am looking forward to returning is a fantastic place for diving enthusiasts.;) thank you

The rain helped keep the sulfer smell down was a great day of diving in the grotto. Read the few 1 or 2 star reviews these reviews are not justifed. The laddy about childrens information has no clue about legal forms. That is the standard accross the board. Keep up the good work.

Jeff Tobey, and his staff are very knowledgeable and friendly, they guarantee the lowest prices (even if found lower on line, they will match) they stand behind all their products sold, and will refund if not completely satisfied. I would Highly Recommend this dive shop to anyone that has an interest in diving, this is also a great place to get your divers certification. Oh and be sure to visit/dive the Hudson Grotto across the street! it is a prehistoric sink that is approximately 130 feet deep with all kinds of cool items stashed away on the walls, see how many things you can find!

I completed the Open Water certification with Rich Lemler and Mark Sommer. Both guys were extremely knowledgeable about diving and made the entire experience enjoyable. I had a blast, learned a ton and have a new lifelong hobby - thanks SCUBA West!

Had a wonderful experience training with Matt. Jeff cares for the customers as if they are family. Will definitely shop here and do more training. Check out their personal training area the Grotto. Also very good selection of equipment and the best options available to order the items in if not available in store.

We visited this shop simply to pay admission for Hudson Grotto (a sinkhole dive site across the street) and buy a few extra weights. 2 lb weights are $8 each - about 400% over-priced! Furthermore, the folks at the counter to whom we paid admission to scuba dive in the Grotto never asked to see our certification cards. I guess they don't mind if anyone dies at their site! Finally, I was not at all impressed with their secretary-level professionalism; the man entering our information into their computer asked us repeatedly to spell names that were perfectly legible on the form, typed agonizingly slowly using the hunt-and-peck method, and couldn't find the item number for the overpriced weights that I did buy. Long story short: you'll have to pay here to gain admission to the Grotto, but get your gear elsewhere.

Recently completed my AOW with Derek at Scuba West and it was a great experience. He got me in super last minute when I was just in the area visiting family, and the grotto was so awesome. I had a blast. And Jeff, the owner, was so knowledgeable and nice entertaining my dad while I was diving. I can t wait to come back to visit the area and go diving with scuba west again!

This is the nearest place to fill my tank. Fair prices, customer service varies among employees.

Had an awesome experience getting my PADI open-water certification here after purchasing a Groupon (I completed the week-long session). My instructor, Nickol White, was thorough and encouraging, and I always felt safe under her leadership. While diving at Hudson Grotto, I had the opportunity to observe the teaching of an instructor from another dive shop, and I can confidently say that the training I received was many times more thorough. Also, everyone I met in the dive shop was friendly and helpful. I had been nervous about going with a shop based on Groupon alone, but I am extremely satisfied with the instruction I received. After just one week of class, I feel that I am a confident diver able to enjoy diving but also ready to handle any potential life-threatening emergencies that could occur. I highly recommend Scuba West for your dive certification.

The grotto is a great training place for AOW and more advanced classes. Easy to get to and the staff is well rounded and very nice.

So i used to scuba dive a while back and remember using this shop a lot. I clean pools now and needed to fix a main drain. I had the regulator first and second stage and just needed a tank filled. These guys are top notch. The customer service here is unbelievable. There are closer dive shops near me but now I remember why I used to drive a little further for them. Im going to start diving again and these guys will definitely have my business again.

I recently purchased a Groupon for an Open Water certification, and getting them to follow through on it has been pulling teeth 100% of the way. I've called several times and sent several emails. A man named Jeff (the owner?) is the only person who is capable processing these, and I have been told that he was "inundated with the Groupons" and can't keep up with the demand. The man who answers the phone to say that Jeff is at home gets extremely testy with people calling about Groupons. I'm sure they are glad for the extra business, but they won't return my calls and at this point I just want a refund. Awful business practices in effect. I'd rather just pay the extra money for people who care about my business.

Great place to shop scuba gear, they always have the latest equipment, and fill your tanks (mostly) while you wait.....

Everytime I go diving or purchase something they always have a smile on their faces.

Purchased a mask here 5-10 years ago and it still is in fantastic condition. Don t let the price scare you, you re paying for quality stuff. Make sure it fits before you buy. Every face is different.

I was treated well by the staff and as a result of both of those things - whenever this mask or any other element of my dive gear gives up I ll be back to this dive shop to make my purchase.

I'm very disappointed with this establishment. Derek gave my daughter a questioair to answer personal questions about herself and then refused to let my daughter take scuba classes there because he didnt like some of the responses. Then Jerry called around other scuba establishments we wanted to take her to, to let them know of my daughters personal information. To me this was very inappropriate and unprofessional
!!!! I would be very cautious of any information that you give them about yourself or your children!!!

Like, I am not worthy.... lol Seriously, this is the REAL deal place to come for any and everything related to Scuba diving, they have a lot of knowledge and they back up their products. Check out the Grotto they have too, it is very unique! Plenty of parking, wonderful Staff too! It s a nice relaxing atmosphere...

Great dive shop! Jeff always treats me extremely well.

I just got my open water certification at Scuba west. My instructor was Derrick and he was great. I had some trouble on a few skills and he was very patient with me. I am a better diver due to his instruction. The Hudson Grotto was not my favorite, but I realize that it was a great controlled environment to learn. Special kudo's to Jeff who runs the place and is a wealth of diving knowledge and extremely helpful. I will certainly be back.

Diving in the Grotto might feel scary at first (like any first dive i guess) but it prepares you very well for any further dives plus it is loaded with hidden treasures !!!!!

They couldn't have been more accommodating. I was on a tight schedule and everything was done get me finished on time, with no corners cut and very complete and thorough training. Derek took me through each item on the curriculum explaining and demonstrating everything, point by point. The convenience of having the open water portion literally across the street was fantastic. Christian and jeff (owners) are extremely friendly and, as I said, couldn't be more accommodating to our needs. Thank you!
