Had lunch here with family. It was a nice spot but it gets really crowded and loud very quickly. Our waiter was good although a bit unattentive. The food was adequate although the pizza was the best we ordered. The prices were a bit high but it is on Union square so that is expected.

Place was rocking all night. We had a reservation and had a little wait however the aroma was easy to take in and just anticipating the fresh food taste was fulfilling. The greeter maitre D' was so courteous and competent it was rewarding to just watch her control the tabkes, seating and preparing the area. Food was outstanding and my squid ink pasta may have been one of the best I've enjoyed.

Walked in at 6:15am and found off coffee and tea were complementary. And on top of that, the manager had the most joy and energy!! At 8:30am we came back for full bkfst and had great service and food. We were VERY happy with our experiences!

Came in today with a small group of girlfriends to celebrate a birthday. Was seated 20 minutes after our reservation, and finally got our food an hour and 10 minutes after our reservation. The service was so inattentive, our waiter actually left in the middle of taking our drink orders to go take the drink orders of the next table, who was seated after we were. We won't return, and I can't recommend to my guests when they visit SF. I would have spoken to the manager at the time had I seen one.

Because I lived in kimpton, I went to have breakfast. The hotel s $10 voucher can be digested. But I really don't recommend everyone to have breakfast! ! ! The waiters are not professional at all, like the waiter level in a regular restaurant. I chose American Breakfast, the coffee forgot to help me, the bread is not freshly baked, and the juice is not freshly squeezed. (I also asked for a freshly squeezed orange juice before ordering!) First and last time!

Going to Scala's was a delight. My server was friendly and hilarious, making jokes with me about the menu, the ambiance, and the weather. The drink I got was phenomenal, as was the service. I tried going an adventurous route with my dinner choice-squid ink risotto. It wasn't my thing, but I think anyone more interested in Italian food would have enjoyed it immensely. I got a reservation on a weekday the day before even though there was a huge convention in town, though that may not be necessary in a normal weekday as the establishment is very large.

Well located Italian restaurant. Great ambience, however if you are looking for a very quite option, this will not be. Great crowd, but very vibrant. You will enjoy it. Italian food at is best, very tasty and very fresh. Don't miss it!!!

Food was amazing with such quality, and each dish had great depth...pesto ricotta filled ravioli with marinara, grilled sea bass with olive tapenade, roasted chicken with fingerling potatoes. Booked through OpenTable for myself and 2 kids (17 & 10) on a Friday @ 7 p.m. Service was on point, and hostess was very warm & friendly. Hostess even addressed me by my name as we left the restaurant... that was a nice touch too! Located in the landmark Sir Francis Drake Hotel. Go upstairs to take photos such as in my pics! I'll definitely be back!!

My boyfriend and I were in town visiting for a friends birthday. It was both our first time in San Francisco and we were in the mood for some Italian food. He called Scalas and it was a short walk around the block. We were so impressed with the service and it was a very romantic candlelit dinner. This was last December. I m so sad to see that this place is temporarily closed. Hopefully it opens again soon.

My family tried this restaurant twice but was able to only have dinner. It was Expensive and not worth the money. Waiter who was Mexican, indicated that chef was not Italian and they could not deviate from setup menu. We requested plain pasta and red sauce for my niece and waiter had to get manager approval after indicating that it was not possible. price is too expensive food is average. we spend about 350.00 for 4 adults and 4 children.

I ate here with my family while staying in San Francisco. My 3 children were enthusiastic: very good and fresh pasta, chicken with good chips and very good ravioli (my son says like the Italian ones). The pizza taken by my husband was good, very good pasta. My carpaccio with fresh rocket. The kind and attentive service. I recommend it to those who want an Italian flavor in San Francisco.

The restaurant was nice, food looked great, hostess was a kind, but avoid the bar staff if you do not meet a criteria . We were kind enough to voluntary move for a nice family that came in 20 min after us (we were thanked by them & the hostess). The bar staff made it clear we were not truly welcome there by blatantly ignoring us while they both attended to the family we moved for

We visited Scala s in the summer of 2018 when we attended a wedding. To this day, my daughter wants to go back and just dine at Scala s. She was 14 years old at the time and she loved-loved-loved the ravioli in the red and white sauce. This is the best Italian restaurant! Highly recommended for the food, the ambiance, and the top notch service! We hope to return soon.

The food is delicious and the staff are accommodating and helpful. It's worth the price. The high quality of the food and service is consistent. I had several meals here over the course of a week. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all tasty!

Nice place, lady at the reception very nice. Food is terrible. In no restaurant in this class have we ever seen a frozen pizza. These are very small and cost a whopping $ 23. The salad, also kept very low, was $ 15. The waitress was very "bored" and "lacking motivation". Bread is only available to some, water only once after eating. We will definitely not eat here again !!

It's ok. I think I may have over anticipated the food here. It wasn't bad but the pasta was ok ( my partner had the papperdelle and it was lovely). The desserts were not good though. Over sweetened, served in glasses. Wait staff were ok as well. A lot of touches had to be asked for (like bread for the table or with the pasta) . A bit over priced in my opinion but it has history and the decor is good and the location is great.

Service was excellent, and all of the staff were very friendly. The waitress attentive without being over bearing like many are. I never had to answer with a full mouth which is well worth the five stars. The Dark Choclate Hazelnut Budino comes highly recommended.
