I was actually upset the tigers had such a small enclosure. The bronx zoo is much better, the wild life roams free, so to speak, and us the spectators are enclosed

This was do fun but the zoo is HUGE.. get those walking shoes on!
Amazing! Could spend several days here. The docents are knowledgeable and the animals are active and have great enclosures. And, of course, the weather is perfect.
I'm from AZ and this Zoo makes me never want to visit another AZ Zoo again. Loved this place.
Always a great place to go even when its hot cause trees are plenty!
AWESOME FAMILY FUN DAY!! It was very hot and sticky that Summer Day but we had a good time and tons of fun. I love visiting the San Diego Zoo. Zoo Employees are friendly and very helpful. I like that. That s why I keep going back.
I have to say I have always wanted to visit this zoo, I've heard its the best but I was very dissapointed, viewin the animals was limited and I felt it was a little confusing. I've been to better.
We had a awesome time!!!! We went with family and it was our niece's birthday!! We got a great parking space since we went to the zoo early. It was around 8:15am and the zoo opens at 9:00am. It was a cool and overcast day, which I loved!!!! We saw a lot of animals because it was cool and not hot. We took the Guided Tour Bus first and went up top of the double decker bus! I would recommend this tour for everyone!!!! It is a great overview of the animals in the Zoo!! Then we went through I think the newest exhibit, Africa Rocks!! We loved it and seen animals that we never saw before at the Zoo!! We only stayed a few hours since we are Zoo members.
San Diego Zoo is a must visit place when you are in San Diego. You can easily spend at least 3-4 hours here without getting bored at all due to the variety of animals.
They have free shuttles and guided bus tours within the zoo that will take you around anywhere in the zoo.
I loved it! It's an awesome zoo, I'll be back soon!!!
Great zoo. The Hippo exhibit was especially wonderful.
Obviously a good zoo, but keeping it open til 8 in the winter time without lighting seems patently absurd. Also the lines for certain things inside the zoo like the panda enclosure are unreasonably long. Finally, the desperately need a better system for draining the parking lot.
Had so much fun with my wife and kids, was our first time in San Diego and and went straight to the zoo. Spent 3 hrs walking the whole entire zoo it was a Blessing.
We go so much more that it stays open later. We all love the Zoo! Always see something we have never seen before.
Buying a 2 day pass makes it more cost effective to see both the San Diego Zoo and San Diego safari park. Parking is free. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring your water bottles! They do have water and other drinks/food but the cost is very high. Not very many options for vegetarians, we brought our own sandwiches. The face painting is very cute and the animal enclosures are of medium size but very clean. Then we are meerkats are adorable on the Jaguar is also very cute. The elephants are extraordinary.
One of the best zoo in the world, San Diego Zoo is a treat to visit. Very well planned, eco friendly with best possible environment for the animals. It is designed in such a manner that animals specific to different parts of the world are grouped together e. g. The African species, the Asian species and species of the America's. The guidance is elaborate. Sufficient rest areas, eating places means to go around the zoo apart from on foot. A must for children.
THE BEST ZOO! The guided tours are absolutely worth it! Zookeepers here are personable, knowledgeable, and helpful! The wildlife and surroundings are breath-taking. The best of San Diego, great for kids, many options for food and amenities. We loved our visit and plan to return!
Okay so this review is going to be a little bit bipolar LOL because there is a huge part of me that I absolutely love this park, however the other side of me felt so bad for some of the animals here. This place is huge and even though my husband and I spent 5 hours here we didn't even get through the whole park. And most of the part that we did see was quickly passed through. We could have easily spent a whole day here. There are a lot of animals in this park and they do look well cared for, however there are some that are in cages that are far too small for their species. It's hard not to feel heartbroken for them. It's a really need experience to be able to see these animals though. They have a whole lot of restaurants there so you don't lack food or drinks and lots of treats on the property for you and the kids. They also have a 4D Theater which was really cool as it was quite Interactive. In addition to have a Sky tram that was really cool! It's a must-try. When you enter the park they will tell you that you should take the tour bus which is definitely a must. Then they also have the kangaroo Hop On Hop off bus Which is also a big must if you don't want to walk the whole park. Overall it was a great experience and we will likely return next time we visit to enjoy the rest of the park we didn't see this time.
This is the best zoo I've ever visited. The ticket price may be high, but the animal variety, conservation efforts, park size, and Pandas will always stay with me. You could spend several days here and still not see everything there is to see. I would love to come back next year during vacation!
Great zoo and loved the cable cars, but was disappointed the Pandas were no longer there. That said, the Red Panda is the better one anyway.
OMG! A MUST SEE IF YOU ARE IN SAN DIEGO.
Something for Everyone Young and Old <3 This Zoo Should Set the Standards for All Zoos!!!
I have been to the zoo before as a child, but I so enjoyed it as an adult. And I toured the zoo by myself. The amount of animals, the history. The park was clean, the food was awesome. I can't wait to return with my family.
Very great zoo. Staff is helpful and friendly. The exhibits were clean and the animals were awesome!
Such a great experience! Didn t even mind all the walking! Loved being here with my family
The Zoo was actually a lot better than I expected! The only thing I don't understand if why they have such little spaces for some of the biggest animals like tigers, leopards, lions and bears.
Best zoo I've ever been to. Huge! Took over 5 hours to see everything. Went end of November which is apparently their slower time of year. It was great with 60 degree temps and no lines!
San Diego is famous for the Zoo but this was not my favorite stop. The bus tour is not good for seeing animals as most of the time is spent looking at trees. However the workers were great.
Enough animals to satisfy the curiosity of a never-seen-before. If only they could plant more grass around the vegans lol. It's a real desert.
This is an amazing place full of wonderful animals and scenery. The spaciousness is bar none for any zoo I've been too. I loved the polar bear siblings. The female loved cantaloupe which is not a healthy part of their diet. The animals all looked like they were treated well and happy. The exhibits were good and not overflowing with too much info. The natural splendor was apparent in the habitats and general landscaping. The food options were abundant and delicious. They had good craft beers and prices weren't outrageous for anything. This is a non-profit after all.
I LOVE this place. So glad I got the year long pass.
They save endangeredanimals of course they are fantastic. Heros at that
Excelent place to visit with family. Don't take the sky link if you fear height as me!
Huge zoo. Great exhibits. Super fun for kids and adults. Come early to avoid crowds
I gave it 5 stars because it's the world famous San Diego Zoo. It's called that for a reason..
Many animal exhibits. They were able to recreate many different habitats and regions. Great experience and learning opportunities.
Only because the fay we went were not many animals out.
So much fun and every animal you'd want to see (almost). Just bring your own food if you can
Amazing zoo wonderful staff a whole lotta fun for the entire family.
I ve been a member ever since I was a baby, this place holds very many memories and happy events. The new Africa rocks area is very nice as well.
Ahm how do I put this...... MOST AMAZING ZOO! We ve been to other great zoo s but this one truly is the best. It s beautiful, very large, wide range of animals, staff nice and the park runs smoothly. Easily enough entertainment for a full day out exploring. We went on Mother s Day so it was busy, but the park had no issues handling the amount of people. Definitely worth a visit.
Amazing venue with something to enjoy for people of all ages. Fun atmosphere and tons of animals.
Most complete zoo I've ever seen. Their exhibits prove how happy and content their wild animals are. Saw a zookeeper feed a male & female lion from the outside of the cage and the animals looked super happy. It was almost unbelievable had I not witnessed with my own eyes.
Took a small open air type double decker tour bus which had a narrator / driver throughout the park and saw a very wide species of animals from all over the globe. Very informational as far as what the narrative content of the tour.
There's also a cable car type system above the facility to traverse as well
This "zoo" is like a tranquil park, and when you walk it has helpful, hired human staff throughout the grounds to help you understand more about the species you happen to be looking at, or to just tell you where the nearest bathroom might be if you "gotta go". Lots of them
Cool gift shops and places to eat. Any terrain which might involve doing some stair climbing has an escalator or an elevator which accepts wheelchairs too.
Awesome place to visit, at any age !
Giant zoo! Had lots of animals out and different shows going on. Just doing alot of construction when i was there.
I came around 5pm. Most animals are already tired and sleeping. Must have been better early morning
The kids loved it. So much to see and no gouging on food/drinks. Also the stroller rental was well priced!
I've been here since the opening of polar bear plunge, our first Panda bears from China, and now more renovations and innovations occur. It's still the zoo that brings me back to a great memories. I love the zoo ! The kids there remind me when I was just like them, wide-eyed and mystified. I'll always thank my pastries for bringing me here first as a child. I've been an annual member since then!
Pretty good place to take your kids. I don't have any kids but it was pretty good nonetheless. The reptile show is pretty good and the sky trail that takes you from one end of the zoo to the other really helps you from walking a couple miles under the scorching San Diego sun
Amazing so adventure. Loved everything about it And then some
Beautifully landscaped zoo with incredibly friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable staff. Pricey but I you can feel good knowing that your admissions is going to animal conservation efforts.
The zoo is a great place. We've been going here for almost a decade and we still love it. Staff members are always friendly and happy! My children have really enjoyed the additions they have done over the years. And the summer camp is awesome!
Great place to go and see all the animals..such fun..haven't been in 15 yrs and I won't wait as long next time.
The zoo itself is great. Very clean and well thought out. The included bus tour and skyfari was also good. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Parking is free so that's great. Only reason I reduce stars is the price and what u get for that price. Food is horribly expensive and not worth the cost so if u can carry, please do. Always sit on the right side for bus tour. Some exhibits close early. There aren't any lights for viewing the animals after hours perhaps for their comfort.
We love the zoo! We have memberships and we go at least twice a month. It truly feels like a place where caring for animals and contributing to wildlife conservation is a priority. The people who handle the animals are super friendly and knowledgable. We enjoy the animals and love learning about them, and we love that the park is so clean and family friendly. There are always fun and family oriented activitys going on. A must see if you're in San Diego!
Great Zoo with tons of see. Likely will take more than one day too see everything.
Is not just animals either. This zoo does a great job of mixing features, including music shows and more.
It's interactive and more than just looking at animals.
Well worth a visit book tickets online to avoid queuing and wear comfortable shoes it's a whole day event.
Best ever experience. This place is so much more than just a zoo. They have an incredible mission statement and a goal to keep animals from extinction. The grounds were immaculate and the enclosures spacious and clean. Loved every moment there.
Very nice. Recommend you take the bus and sky lift to save on walking because there is a lot of walking both up and downhill.
One of the nicest, most beautiful zoo's I've been to.
Staff are very helpful. Signage could be improved.
Great place to take kids to inspire them, or just to get exercise and experience some of the critters that share this planet.
Great setup for the zoo. My wife enjoyed it. Takes a couple of days to get the full experience.
How small are the cages? My local zoo is better.
In this day it shouldn't be allowed.
Also to help environment they need to use electric buses instead of the dirty diesel buses they are using. Paper cups for my drink would have been better too.
Glad I finally got to visit this zoo, however the amount of people allowed in per day makes it to crowded to enjoy. Also, witnessed the workings of the zoo officials when someone is lost and I think that is an area in need of serious work by the facility. Luckily the woman was found hours later safe.
Awesome experience. Animals were amazing, our toddlers really enjoyed all the statues because they could touch them and climb all over. Impressive areas for all animals. Got tickets ahead online and didn't have to wait line to buy them. No lines really, convenient snack and food. Parking no problem even on Saturday.
I absolutely loved it, the animals seemed well cared for, the employees were nice and it was an overall fun experience
It's beautifully clean, and the animals always appear healthy both mentally and physically. The animal enclosures and the lush surrounding landscaping are always in tip top condition and are constantly being updated and enhanced. It's just about perfect. The new Africa Rocks exhibit is my favorite right now.
Just became a member and while I love Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, this zoo is one of a kind!
Visiting from Maine. Beautifully designed and great for for families.
One of the best in the world. A must see if you are in the area.
Visitors were screen before entering zoo. Staff and docents where friendly and remind visitors to maintain social distance. Need a minimum 4 to 5 hours to explorer the zoo. Zoo was well maintain, clean and organize.
Amazing zoo. This place is so big we could never even finish in one day Sirius the tiger did a display in front of us that kept us staring at it for at least a half an hour. Our child had so much fun at the zoo staring at the animals and interacting with all it has to offer great place for kids.
My fiance and I are from Florida. We had a blast and we're here for most of the day, about 6 hours? It was so much fun, I love all the exhibits and animal varieties that we don't normally get to see. I was a bit sad that the pandas were not here anymore but that's okay. Red panda was cute sitting in the tree relaxing the whole time. The tator tots were fabulous too! Overall super fun trip!
A great place to visit with kids. If you don't want to spend a lot of money you should bring food with you, other wise you can buy food and drinks. You should bring comfortable shoes to walk around.
Great place, wonderful staff. Clean and beautiful exhibits, fun for the whole family. Good food too.
Slot of walking, nice shady trails and just beautiful enclosures
I love going to this zoo. Every time I go I learn or see something new. Can't wait for the children's area to open again next year and see all the upgrades.
We love the zoos and support them. The conservation work is vital, San Diego takes in older animals from other zoos also and has a breeding program that's been very successful. This brings a tiny piece of our world closer to us ,hopefully making us get more involved in the protection of our natural world.
Well maintained and huge. Wear
Comfortable shoes and be ready for walks. Recommend doing the tour bus first and then do the walk.
Great clean park. Plenty to see, reasonable prices. (Except the food.) Worth taking more then one day to see.
I love this zoo. The bus tour is great. I also love that they have the kangaroo bus to get from exhibit to exhibit as well as the sky tram. Both are free so utilize them.
Huge zoo, lots too see. The gondola lift "skyfari" is a really cool idea for a zoo, and it's included in the price! Plenty of snack and food options inside, and plenty of parking. I still think the price if a little steep though...$56 per adult (in 2019).
