I live nearby this restaurant, so I thought it was time to finally go. It's a standard American-Japanese restaurant serving par sushi. I was really disappointed. The service wasn't very good or attentive - they asked how we were doing when we were already finished with our meal. We were seated at the bar, with the food coming through with tickets on one side of us and drink orders on the other side of us. Shouldn't this be happening at the ends of the bar instead?

Again the food was just okay. The fish isn't very fresh seeming and the tuna was all stringy/veiny. Even at a discount (I had a coupon), the prices seem high for the quality. I was really disappointed and I didn't even have high expectations going in.

Also, the ambiance is terrrrible - they play loud music and inappropriate music videos on a huge screen in the middle of the space. The blue lights and backlit bar basically belong in a club. The worst part is they have karaoke (???) in the back - there was a huge group of teenage girls screaming for all to hear. I will definitely not be going back.

Very nice ambience. Usually go there for oysters but theirs sushi are not bad ether. There are a few glass booths for larger groups, which is interesting experience and more private. For even more privacy karaoke rooms are available bur there is min. Charge so its for larger groups ( or small but hungry one ) they specialize in sake so really good choice of it as well as a few draft beers. Overall nice, friendly service and always great experience.

Overall, a very good quality restaurant. Ambience was chill. The waitresses were all super pleasant. The food was very good as well.

The best part about Sankesan? The $1 Oyster! So darn good. Go just for this.

The rolls were interesting. The Giant roll, was very unique in its ingredients - crab, salmon and eel sauce? Sign me up. But the asparagus could've been done slightly better. As someone who is not really a fan of fried food, the Godzilla roll pleasantly surprised me. Same can't be said for the fried clam. The spicy clam on the other hand was really good. They do all the basic rolls really well.

And I cried at how unhealthy yet delicious the bacon rolled asparagus was while eating it.

P.S. They have karaoke rooms! Large groups can go crazy here.

I had a chirashi bowl from here and it was quickly delivered. It came with 10 pieces of sashimi and two pieces of tamago, soft sushi rice and a little bit of seasoning. All in all, a nice dinner just right for me and although it looked small, it was plenty of food. Fish was fresh so definitely try it out yourself!

This is a great late night restaurant. The prices are reasonable and the food is delicious. The service from the staff was outstanding and our order arrived at our table piping hot. We ordered off their happy hour menu which had a good selection to choose from.

Came here for their late night happy hour, 10pm-1130pm. HH menu wasn't too bad. Got a dozen of the $1 oysters. Referencing other reviews, it's true, the oysters are small, hence the $1. Got the spicy salmon roll off the HH menu, and ordered a couple other special rolls off the regular menu. Interestingly they were all the same size... thought we paid more for the regular special rolls. Hm. Food was ok. Didn't care much for the autoplay karaoke they had on.

The food is alright over here but here's the reason why I gave only 2 stars
#1 service is really bad over here : I needed water and to add more things no one came to check with us for almost 40 mins what we needed
#2 they could do better job cleaning the area where you take your shoes off , when we sat down it smelled like dry beer was poured and never cleaned
#3 never chew gum while you are working as a waiter
#4 we waited long time for them to give us our check
I AM SAYING THAT BECAUSE I AM A WAITER AND I KNOW WHAT GOOD SERVICE SHOULD BE
I JUST WANT THEM TO READ THAT AND DO BETTER

It was bad. The music was very loud, so we couldn't even talk to each other and had to scream. They didn't bring edamame even though we've ordered it. They didn't put soy sauce on the table, so we had to run across the restaurant to steal it from another table. Our waitress was never there. And when I said that we were missing a part of our order she didn't apologize and was rude. I don't recommend this place! Don't go unless you want to spoil your Friday night.

Trendy atmosphere with a neat seating arrangement and plenty of separation between groups. Both the food and the ambiance are a bit on the cheeky side (karaoke and "OMG" rolls) but make for good entertainment. The Gambler was probably the biggest crowd pleaser of the night.

One of my favorite sushi spots in SF. Great decor (love the traditional seating area - beware, shoes off here), the funky lights and the karaoke rooms out back. They are open late on Friday and Saturday nights which is a plus, as many other restaurants on Clement are closed. Get The Gambler sushi - fun to eat and find out which one is the spicy one among friends :)

Sakesan is fantastic! I've gone here about 10 times, and every time their sushi has been fresh and incredibly tasty. It can be difficult sometimes to find parking around their area, so definitely plan on some other transportation to get there.

It has an usually hip atmosphere for the Inner Richmond, including glass-walled private dining rooms. The service was attentive & I liked the menu.

Some thoughts about individual items ordered. We had the Sea Bass, Spicy Tuna Tacos, Hamachi Jalapeno roll & 49er roll - it was all tasty.

There's also other private (glass walls) rooms for karaoke.

Friends recommended Sakesan for dinner, and it did not disappoint! Waiting is probably a regular thing, even with tables available we had to wait about 10 minutes. We got to sit in one of the three fun front tables, elevated, shoes off... More

Great restaurants for large groups. Unique rolls only to the Bay Area. Great fresh rolls.

The house sake is served hot at $8.

They have rooms for karaoke and birthday parties. I came here because it was open late for a Sunday.

Great little place with a variety for Japanese food. They have curries and sushi. Really good little place that is a must for quality late night food.

This is the best "casual sushi" place in SF in my opinion. It's incredible and reasonably priced, it's fun, they have good music/karaoke, the service is quick and friendly, and you should order the salmon avocado roll with spicy mayo.

Oysters are $1 a piece, size are small, taste is ok. I order miso saba, mistakenly thinking it would be something like I taste in Tokyo. The plate was presented with a measly 3 small pieces of grilled saba that has no hint of miso, yet Sakesan over charged for this. The rest of my sushi experience are mediocre. Would not come back again.

Awesome dining experience! Great sushi. The Gambler was a fun roll to get for the table and (having "lost" the roulette) the spicy was hot...but certainly not terrible. Just enough spice for the fun.

If you are new to sake, order a Fer smaller bottles to share.

Great place to bring the whole family!

I was a little shocked to find a groupon deal for this place, but hey I ain't complaining!

We started our meal with some oysters and the dynamite baked mussels. Both extremely good. The oysters are big, cold and juicy. The mussels were baked in a very unique way, we really liked them.

We had some nigiri, the salmon platter and some tuna. all very good, I would prefered the fish a tiny bit colder, but nonetheless they were good.

The highlight though were definitely the rolls! Don't get me wrong the nigiri were good but the rolls were great! We had the Raiders and the Golden gate. If you're a fan of scallops you're gonna looooveee the Raiders, creamy garlic and so delicious! the Golden gate is amazing too the Unagi and mango toped with Salmon are amazing!

Great sushi here! I'll be definitely coming here again!

Sakesan is a fun sushi spot with good fish, karaoke rooms and a few traditional low tables. I came here on a Friday night and had no issue walking in and sitting at the sushi bar. Had the ahi tacos, a couple or rolls and beer and wine. Overall the rolls were well made, the fish was fresh and the service was decent. Not too expensive and reasonable for a date.

Dishes here are hit or miss. Their udon is DELICIOUS and I would get it again. The sushi rolls vary. The one with salmon and mango inside was delicious. The one with Kani on a spider roll was a bit fishy and underwhelming (sorry I forgot the names of the rolls!)

Sakesan is extremely reliable, and exists in some strange little niche gap of almost affordable for a decent quality.
Maybe I m cheap, but this seems fair given the quality that you get when compared to a more quality sushi restaurant.
They have karaoke in the back and pop music player 24/7, but the food is good and they have never, ever given me a bad meal.

Great overall experience. The food can be a bit pricey, but if you are renting out a karaoke room it is totally fair and acceptable. I heard their happy hour is decent as well, but I mainly hold off unless its time to sing my heart out.

This was by far the absolute WORST sushi I ve ever had in my entire life. Some of the sushi I ordered was a Godzilla and Spider roll and both came with hardly any meat in them as you can see in the pictures. The rolls themselves were also the tiniest roll I ve ever seen. Barely bigger than a thumb joint. The spider roll with the tempura looked like I just got the fried bits from the pan and no meat. I also ordered Hamachi and Tai and both orders came with fish that still had some of the skin on it. Gross! I ve never seen sushi like this. The edamame I ordered was fine. I also ordered a side of Gyoza and it tasted like it had old meat in it. I couldn t eat this food and thankfully got refunded at least some of the bill from doordash. Overall, highly disappointed with his place and would NEVER recommend it to anyone EVER!

One of the best sushi resteraunt I've ever been to. The fish is fresh and the prices are reasonable. Overall, the place is clean and organized. In my opinion this is a very good place to hang out with friends and family.
