About Safehome
Safehome: Providing a Safe Haven for Domestic Violence Survivors
Domestic violence is a pervasive problem that affects millions of people worldwide. It can happen to anyone, regardless of age, gender, race, or socioeconomic status. Victims of domestic violence often feel trapped and helpless, with nowhere to turn for help. That's where Safehome comes in.
Safehome is a nonprofit organization and domestic violence shelter located in Johnson County. Our mission is to provide a safe haven for survivors of domestic violence and their children by offering shelter, support services, and education.
Our History
Safehome was founded in 1980 by a group of concerned citizens who recognized the need for a safe place for victims of domestic violence to go. Since then, we have grown into one of the largest providers of services to survivors in the Kansas City area.
Our Services
At Safehome, we offer comprehensive services designed to meet the unique needs of each survivor who comes through our doors. Our services include:
Emergency Shelter: We provide emergency shelter for survivors and their children who are fleeing abusive situations.
24-Hour Hotline: Our hotline is staffed 24 hours a day by trained advocates who can provide crisis intervention and support over the phone.
Counseling: We offer individual counseling as well as group therapy sessions led by licensed therapists.
Legal Advocacy: Our legal advocates can help survivors navigate the legal system and obtain protective orders or other legal remedies.
Children's Services: We offer age-appropriate activities and counseling services for children who have witnessed or experienced abuse.
Community Education: We provide education programs on domestic violence prevention and healthy relationships to schools, businesses, faith communities, and other organizations throughout Johnson County.
Our Impact
Since our founding over 40 years ago, Safehome has helped thousands of survivors escape abusive situations and rebuild their lives. In addition to providing direct services to survivors at our shelter facility in Johnson County,
we also work closely with community partners such as law enforcement agencies,
courts,
and social service providers to ensure that survivors receive comprehensive support throughout their healing journey.
