Hospital experience/surgery for my son was good. ...

Hospital experience/surgery for my son was good. Valet parking was a different story. Used the valet parking in front of 1725 W. Harrison. I have a new car and was preoccupied with getting my son home after 6 hours at the hospital. Noticed that there was mud in wheel wells and fenders behind wheels. Mentioned it to driver and did a quick walk around and didn't notice any obvious damage. They were in a hurry to get me away from the hospital...I should have taken that cue and inspected a little closer. The tire inflation pressure light came on. I should have turned around and went back but I had to tend to my son. Got him home and situated...noticed the damage to the front tire and rim. There was no damage on the car when it was dropped off. Called the Valet and they will not do anything about it because I left the hospital. I recommend to not use the valet...there are some very dishonest people working there. If you do feel like you have to use valet take a few minutes and go over your car carefully. They have you because most people leaving the hospital are not in the correct frame of mind and are usually more concerned about their patient then their car.

I had an unexpected trip to the hospital to have by gallbladder removed. I was in Chicago on business and away from my care network.

I can t stop raving about the care I received. The supervising surgeon was Nicole Siparsky and she was absolutely amazing, attentive, honest and on and on. This was an absolutely amazing experience and encounter with the network. Kudos to the medical team and management of the hospital. Thank you so much for all you ve done.

I was having pains in my stomach and it was my first time needing to go to an ER in my life. I was nervous about long wait times and feeling ignored. To my surprise my experience could not have been handled any better. I walked in, said I needed to see a doctor and was taken back right away, was given a room right away and my concerns were all addressed within 20 minutes of being there. The nursing staff is excellent, they were constantly checking in, seeing if I needed anything and making sure my pain was taken care of. The doctors were very knowledgeable and I was correctly diagnosed and taken care of. I wouldn't wish a trip to the ER on anyone, but if you have to go anywhere, go here!

This is the best hospital in the city! I have been seeing Rush doctors since I was four-I m many moons older than four now-and all of my children have also been patients of Rush since birth. I don t believe you can find a better hospital with such caring doctors, nurses and support staff. I don t have to figure out where to see a specialist with my referral because they re all at Rush too! It s a one stop shop!

Fancy suits, shirts, and shoes nothing more (beware)

If you are looking for a higher level of expertise with alternative options that deliver gratifying results look elsewhere, for this medical ring is all about attitude (oversight), not ability (foresight) poor process control (operations), poor bedside manners (communications), and poor attention to details (executions) in words, generalists (not specialists) who practice anecdotal medicine (not narrative medicine), perform primitive diagnostics (not computer diagnostics), use default trees (not decision trees), and deliver common care (not advanced care) beware, do NOT be deceived by their egocentric and overrated marketing resumes and reviews (degrees and testimonies), shop elsewhere, unless of course, someone else is paying the bill (forewarned)

After my sisters cancer diagnosis, we came to rush for her treatment. Walking into the hospital the windows are filled with fringerprints and slime. Normally I understand, in a hospital covered in windows it can t be easy to keep clean. It unfortunately doesn t stop there, the main lobby looks like it hasn t been mopped in a very long time. There was blood left on the railing of my sisters hospital bed. The surgery recovery room smelled of sweat and urine. The bathrooms floors are always sticky, slimey and out of toilet paper/ paper towels. Absolutely disgusting, hospitals are suppose to operate on a level one scale of cleanliness. I would not be surprised if people don t become sick just from walking into the building. I will add the doctors and nurses overall were very kind and treated my sister with care, but the facility services deserve a 0 out of 5 stars.

I seriously wish I could give this place 0 stars. ...

I seriously wish I could give this place 0 stars. As a first time mom I didn't really know what to look for when choosing a hospital to deliver at so when my OB told me she works with Rush I didn't question her.
The front desk lady from labor and delivery was so rude and was clearly not listening to a thing I was saying since she kept asking the same thing over and again. I was in labor for 30 hours and I was rarely checked on. (The only nurse that was a great help was a nurse who was pregnant with twins. She was great! I can't remember her name). There was no communication between nurses and my OB. My OB came in expecting things to be set up and instead there were two nurses casually talking next to us about the last 30 hours with me. During labor I had some complications and was bleeding SO MUCH. It looked like a murder scene. A blood transfusion was called in which never even got to the room. I passed out a few times during my delivery and the staff and students that were helping looked so freaked out by all the blood, they had completely forgotten about holding my legs up that I was almost dropped from the bed like 3 times! My husband and mother-in-law were not allowed next to me to see what was going on until the end when my husband was called in to help me stay awake. My baby came out perfectly fine in less than 2 pushes but I was worked on for about 3 hours. After all the work was done nothing was ever explained to me about what had happened and my room was never cleaned. The floors, furniture, walls, and garbage cans were covered in my blood. I had my family walk in to a horror scene. By the end of it I was so exhausted and had no idea what was going on, I could barely hold my baby yet no nurse even offered to help. After waiting for another 12 hours because they had no available rooms, I was finally taken to the postpartum unit. Even after those 12 hours the room still hadn't been cleaned and my sheets were never changed. My mom was the one who had to clean all the blood, bathrooms, and basically the entire room.

Now, in the postpartum unit every single nurse was so unhelpful (Except one named Karen, she was our favorite and helped so so much. We loved her! ) I felt so judged about not knowing how to breastfeed properly and they made smart comments at me. As a first time mom, I obviously asked a lot of questions and they looked at me as if I was stupid. One nurse even asked who was staying over night with me because, I quote her "If an emergency were to happen like your baby chokes, we might be busy and won't be able to come to help." What kind of comment is that?!
Whenever I asked for anything, the nurses seemed bothered and annoyed. They hardly came when I pressed the button and there was no communication between any of them. They kept asking me what had happened as if I knew. NOTHING WAS EXPLAINED TO ME. My family and I had no idea what had happened during my labor. I was unable to walk on my own, I was only helped up once to pee and my husband had to take over from there. He did everything for me. A nurse came in to draw my baby's blood, she dropped her glove on the dirty floor and still put it on, was constantly checking her phone, and continued to draw my baby's blood. So unsanitary! I was still having heavy bleeding and my sheets weren't changed and I still had the same bloody robe on. Again, this room was never cleaned as well. I was told I would be able to leave at noon on my third day there but wasn't given my discharge papers until 7 pm. Being able to leave this place was the best news ever.

I will never recommend this hospital to anyone.

I was admitted to RUSH emergency a few months ago ...

I was admitted to RUSH emergency a few months ago and the physician assistant asked when I had my last pap smear? I let him know a week prior to my visit but he still ordered REALLY expensive tests that I already had results for.

This hospital strives to offer patients transparency of services but they fail to do this from the minute you walk into hospital in some many ways.

- Rush is a teaching hospital and I had a physician assistant who was all over the place, barely said more than five sentences that was relevant to my health concerns. Physician assistants should introduce themselves as such so patience who are able to speak can request a real doctor.
- Services rendered weren't clearly communicated to me. He was selective about tests he was ordering and proceeded to order tests that I refused. It's unethical to order tests a patient hasn't agreed to!!!! My situation was not life threatening and these tests couldn't have been necessary because on call Gynecologist only reviewed scans with me and nothing else.

Your physician assistants shouldn't order unnecessary tests because they are unsure of course of treatment. They should be trained to access the situation and involve the appropriate team members if they are unable to help.

I had to go to the ER and was admitted into the cardio floor overnight. This was the nicest, cleanest facility I have ever been in. I usually HATE hospitals, but the nurses and doctors were very professional, had great bedside manner, and were very thorough not only with care, but with explaining to me what was going on. Also- the food wasn't too bad at all.

I was diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia which has been dubbed "SUICIDE PAIN" to the right side of my face over a year ago. I had to get MVD which included form of brain surgery to complete the procedure. My doctor was awesome and the nurses were very attentive and nice. The overall condition of the hospital was very clean and up-to-date. Students were learning but displayed great bedside manner and professionalism. It is a painful recovery and will be long but it's definitely worth it.

It has taken me several months to be able to write...

It has taken me several months to be able to write my review regarding our horrendous experience at Rush. I will do my best to keep what I feel is such a long story, short and concise.
Sept 2016, my 56 year old Aunt (more like 2nd mom) was transferred to Rush from our local hospital for a cancer diagnosis and treatment options. Within 9 days to be exact, she went from sitting up and laughing in her hospital bed to deceased.

Here just a few appalling facts about our experience:
1. The first doctor we encountered didn t know or care that her family was giving her privacy and standing outside of the room. After his examination, he came out smirking to his colleagues and said that she maybe has 6 months and she isn t worth treating or doing surgery. Talk about class. (-LESS and unprofessional) Oddly, he never said this to our face.
2. A long list of rude and lazy staff members, ranging from nurses to doctors. Thought we were at the one of the best of the best hospitals. Guess not. Had an awkward encounter with someone who pretended to be a nurse we were told she was a known issue, to ignore her if she came in the room, and call a nurse if she tries touching the machines. SCARY.
3. Since the doctor s never communicated with one another and would walk in asking us what the last one said, I decided to note everything. At one point, a doctor asked if I was a medical professional, because I was able to provide her with exactly what she needed. Pathetic.
4. My aunt had been using a walker for 3 years and in the last few weeks hadn t been mobile at all. The tumor on her spine prevented her from doing so she was admitted this way. A doctor decided to not read her chart, came in, and told her if she wants to feel better she would need to start walking. Luckily, my mother was there to correct him. Like I said, NO communication. HOW INSULTING.
5. She was taken for a biopsy short procedure, some risks (remember I took notes) took triple the time, the nurse refused to provide updates until I practically BEGGED, and then my aunt came back with a hole poked in her lung! We only found out by asking the nurse why the heck she was in tears and curled to her side. The doctor who completed the procedure never came to see us, EVER. The on-call doctor came in told us it would heal quickly. It only got worse.
6. 7 days after being admitted she contracted a bacterial infection, common in hospitals during procedures (one she wouldn t have needed had they not poked the hole in her lung), which ultimately took her life.

Death is inevitable and certainly was for my aunt, BUT we would have gladly accepted the 6 months the first doctor so emotionlessly allotted her, rather than 9 days. I am not writing this review to just share my sob story and gain sympathy. My only gain from this is hoping the right person sees and reviews her time there, to avoid anyone else having to go through what we did.

It is my firm belief that doctors should be regularly reminded of the oath they took. Their job goes far beyond the surgery tables. Patients are more than just a number on a chart with a death sentence. They are our families and we trust them with our lives.

My heart hurts reminiscing this horrible experience, but I feel responsible for sharing and encouraging anyone who seeks care here to make sure they treat your person in need with the utmost respect and care. If not, do not stay silent. We certainly will never make that mistake again.

Teaching hospital in the Chicago area.

I've heard this is the place for all things medical and education.

Passing thru is all I did, but I was enamored by the stories.

Love the butterfly shape of the hospital.

I can honestly say, this is not one place I want to return to visit.

I have been to Rush several times. The first and second time I went it was maybe one two in the morning. It almost seems like they only have one doctor on call between midnight and 6 a.m. NOW I have gone back at 6 a.m. and the service was EXCELLENT. The doctors and nurses were extremely thoriugh and I just want to say thank you for the service that I received. I hope you will clear up the contract issues with CountyCare so that all my doctors can be onsite...

First time visiting the ER at Rush however my experience was not the greatest. no empathy from the doctor whatsoever. I was in the emergency room for 7 hours to be told by Dr. Alexandra Mannix, she was only there to treat emergency trauma cases and she was not a specialist so she couldn't help me and suggested I schedule a visit with a gastroenterologist for further testing/treatment. She said this a couple of times and was flat-out rude. Now $400 co-pay and 7 hours later in the ER to hear this is ridiculous. I would not be in the emergency room if I didn't think my symptoms were an emergency. I should have followed my instinct and gone to St Anthony Hospital where I have been in the past and was seen by someone within the hour. Consider St Anthony next time it's only 10minutes from Rush.

I had been referred into the sleep clinic by another doctor. I called at 3:40 on a Thursday and was on hold for 20 minutes at the switchboard who then transferred me to the sleep clinic. There I was given a recorded message that said their front desk was open until 4:30 (it was now 4:00)and I should leave a message which they would return the next day. I left my name and phone number but called back the switchboard. After being put on hold again,I explained to her that I work every day except Thursday and can not take calls at work so I really needed to talk to a person. She transferred me back to the same answering machine. I called back a third time , and after being put on hold again, was told that all I could do is keep trying to call since she did not know when or if they answered their phone. If these people are this terrible about something as simple as scheduling appointments , I have some serious concerns abut the quality of the medicine they practice.

This review is for their ER. I visited on July 1st evening because of a severe pain. Doctors were really knowledgeable and found that it was an infection that grew really large. I was admitted and stayed there for over 8 hours. The nurses were attentive. They had to do a bunch of tests before seeing the surgeons which is why it took so long. They were super smart and knowledgeable.

I was not happy with the service I received. Rush needs to be conscious of what they put in their contracts. I m not a sign and go kinda girl. I read everything, and if your contract states we could request information before signing, then you need to be sure to have that information readily available. The nurses (Mira and the other lady) were horrible. Then the head manager didn t help either. I was thinking she would be more knowledgeable of policy and procedures but she was just as clueless as the nurse. I nearly walked out before having my appointment. Horrible horrible service!

I wanted to wait until my mom was no longer associated with this hospital to leave a review. The only reason why it got 3 stars was because of the awesome nurses. If I was rating the nurses alone then I would give 5 stars easily. The doctors, I m sorry to say, are over worked or they don t care so it feels like they are incompetent. My mom was sent home from Rush ER in the middle of having a stroke because they missed all the signs/misdiagnosed her. They gave her meds that made everything worse and it wasn t until we brought her back 2 days later that they found she had a stroke. So ER gets 0 stars. On to the stroke/ICU floor. Nurses are phenomenal there but the neuro docs and the stroke team who you think would be connected don t share notes or talk to each other. So for the week that she was there, we were hearing 2 different potential diagnosis from both teams and both said it wasn t even 100% sure. She went through intense pain because a doctor didn t put in the notes that her bed needs to be elevated, a nurse made a guess and figured it out and when we told the doctor they were like oh yeah I thought that was obvious. No you imbicile use the f ing notes! My grandfather died of pneumonia in this hospital and my mom developed pneumonia in this hospital so now we are all on edge. We couldn t wait to get her out and to Shirley Ryan Ability lab who was phenomenal and my mom is now almost 100% recovered in just a month. We were told while at rush that my mom needs to come back in a month for an MRI follow up. We call her stroke doctor who knew nothing about it and then we told her to look in the notes because we aren t stupid and she did while on the phone and said oh yeah you re right here it is. Are you kidding me?! What kind of people are they hiring? Or do they need to hire more so doctors have more time to write and read notes?! She is now with doctors at northwestern and doing a thousand times better. Good riddance to rush, the building is beautiful but it s lipstick on a pig for the doctoral staff. Good luck to the nurses who work there, you all should be doctors.

I m writing this review the day after surgery. I was very fortunate in that I only had the excruciating pain for 6 weeks before surgery, but if you are ever thinking about having back surgery, or need to have back surgery, I highly recommend seeing Dr. Harel Deutsch and having the surgery performed at Rush University. I don t care if he s not warm and fuzzy during the appointment, I want someone who has the brains, hands, and experience to open my back up and fix the disc, and I got that with Dr. Deutsch. I was referred to him by a family friend in November, and was fortunate to be put on their high priority appointment cancellation list. I ll never know the name of the person who cancelled their 9:30am appointment on Wednesday December 7th, but I can t thank you enough. If I knew who you were, I would send you the biggest Christmas fruit basket. I was able to get in and see Dr. Deutsch and due to my severe condition (bulging disc at L5/S1, radiating, throbbing, shooting sciatic pain down my left leg from butt to toe) he scheduled me for surgery on Monday December 12th. His nurse Candice came in and was awesome getting my physical and bloodwork scheduled at Rush THAT DAY so I didn t have to go do it anywhere else. I went in for surgery at 11:30am and walked to my Mom s car for the drive home at 5pm, that s how fast it was. The recovery nurses did an amazing job feeding me what I call the Southwest Airlines meal (Ginger Ale and crackers), monitored my vitals, and took great care of me. After being in post op recovery for 45 minutes I was wheeled down to a bay where I could see my Mom. I was able to stand up and get off the gurney and sit in a chair to talk with my Mom without any leg pain. After 15 minutes the nurse had me get up and walk to the bathroom down the hall, use it, and walk back. At that point I was discharged. Today, Dr. Deutsch personally called me to check and see how I was doing and I told him that it s euphoric. I can walk around my place with no leg pain, and there is just a little tenderness at the incision spot. I was able to shower today for the first time in 6 weeks and enjoyed eating food again. Thanks to all of the great people at Rush, Dr. Deutsch, your surgical team, and all of the nurses. I hope I never have to have a surgery of any kind ever again, but if I do, you have a patient for life. Happy Holidays to everyone at Rush!

I love my primary care physician Dr. Vega but my reason for reviewing is the nurse on staff in the COVID-19 sector. I called today about getting tested and the nurse I spoke to was so funny and sweet. She had such a great attitude she brightened my day! I appreciated her help and engaging conversation in what could have easily been a tense or exhausting one. Thank you to her, and all the wonderful people working so hard right now.

I had a small seizure at work a few months back. The MD I worked for INSISTED I go to Rush as it was, in his opinion, a "world class" institution. Let me tell you about that "world class" treatment I received!

i was driven to the ER by co-workers. I was triaged and then placed on a stretcher in the hall. Because I was also having severe stomach pains, I was given an IV. After about an hour of just lying there, a Dr Young came to my stretcher and told me he didn't feel comfortable giving me pheno barbital, (which I was given by my neurologist about 5 years ago because I was allergic to most of the more common drugs used for epilepsy at that time), because of it's potential for abuse. I had not taken a pheno barbital in YEARS because it effected my ability to work and I had not had a seizure for a long time. I was SO HUMILIATED that I began to cry. I lay in that stretcher for 30 minutes before a nurse asked me what was wrong. (I was FINALLY given a pheno barbital pill). When Dr Young, a cocky I am greater than God young ER doc (my father was an ER doc and toxicologist in Texas, so I know how they SHOULD be), came to find out why I was upset, he told me that he was "too busy" to deal with me being upset and that he had a "busy ER to run" and didn't have "time" for me. I was ignored for another 2 hours before I was sent for a CT scan. The contrast dye POURED out of my arm as soon as they put it in my IV...the RN had left my IV only PARTIALLY in and there was blood running down my arm the entire time I had been lying in that stretcher crying my eyes out. After the CT scan was done, I was sent back to wait ANOTHER hour. At NO point was I put into a room and after my complaining about my treatment, I was left there ALONE and was never spoken to again until I was discharged. I was told my CT scan was ok...and here is the kicker...I CANNOT DRIVE BECAUSE OF MY EPILEPSY....so I was sent home ALONE...after having seizure and been given Pheno Barbital...I was sent home ALONE via public transportation.

When I got home, I read the CT scan...it read, in part, that my UTERUS was normal....funny thing is....I HAD A HYSTERECTOMY in 2005!!! I HAVE NO UTERUS!!!!

I called the customer service and told them of my awful experience. I immediately was called by the cocky radiologist, ("oh, it was a mistake") and never was I apologized to. I complained as well about Dr Young and having been sent home ALONE under the influence of medication and after having a seizure. I NEVER HEARD ANOTHER WORD. I DID get a bill for over EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!! YES, 8 GRAND to lie in a stretcher, be given a SHODDY CT scan that was MIS-READ and then sent home with a pheno barbital pill...alone...on the train. This was in June....I was sent to collections for that bill LESS THAN TWO MONTHS after my trip there. (I refuse to pay for shoddy treatment and for INCOMPETENCE anyway...but I was sent to collections IMMEDIATELY!!!!) I was NEVER contacted by ANYONE after I complained...in spite of weak promises to DO SOMETHING about the incompetence I witnessed.

Horrible outpatient experience. Went to get allergy shots, six appointments later with three different appointments and I'm over $1500 in the hole with absolutely no resolution of my allergy issues. Moreover, none of the departments communicated- the pulmonary department had no idea I was even visiting to get cleared for allergy testing. Aside from the nurses, the care overall was sub-par. I highly recommend sticking to more personal settings where communication is key, costs are contained, and everyone seems to be on the same page.

It takes 13 minutes for anyone to answer the phone when you call to make an appt or speak to a nurse. Then they won t let you speak to a nurse. The have to call you back. They have no same day appointments despite what they advertise or how sick you are- you either have to wait 2 months to see your doctor or go to the emergency room.

I had a septoplasty, turbinectomy, and sleep endoscopy on June 18, 2018. I was under general anesthesia through out the procedure. The nurse in the recovery room was fantastic, she made sure I didn't stop breathing. After that I was transferred to the extended recovery on the 4th floor. The nurse who was on duty on 4th floor that evening on June 18, 2018 named Jennifer Wright (Race: African American, I'm stating the race here so Rush CS will not be mistaken identifying the person). I had to be moved from the OR bed to regular bed on the 4th floor. Ms. Wright woke me up by yelling at my name in such disrespectful manner. I was still very weak due to the influence of anesthesia, but I could hear very well. Ms. Wright laughed and told her colleague, "Another one that tries to play a game with me, not wanting to wake up!" I was shocked to hear this. Since I just got out from the surgery with unberable pain, my throat was extremely painful, I couldn't say a word. Ms. Wright with such bad attitude tried to force me to get up, walk on my foot, and go to the regular bed. I didn't reply to her request, I was in extreme pain, dizzy, weak, and really couldn't walk. Eventually, Ms. Wright managed to wheel the OR bed, so that it's next to the regular bed and told me to roll over. I have never had a nurse that behave so disrespectful. Later on that night, I must had my dose of antibiotic put in my IV. Ms. Wright tried to flush the IV that's on my right hand. She pushed that saline so hard that I had to scream in pain. It felt like my right hand almost exploded! She knew the IV was stuck, but still forced the syringe as hard as she could without thinking that it could blow up my vein. Struggling with talking, I managed to scream, it's how painful this idiot nurse did. I told her to STOP, she still insisted to try on the other hand (my left hand). As soon as she poked me, she blew up my vein and blood was squirting out. Again I told her to just STOP and call the doctor or her senior who could do a better job in flushing IV. Perhaps her pride made her not want to call anybody. She said, "So what do you want?" I said, "I dont want to be your guinea pig, find somebody who can do this. I dont care how." Ms. Wright is absolutely incompetent as a nurse, she doesn't have any experience at all as a nurse. I question Rush big time how in the world this poorly trained nurse could be hired in this hospital. I have pictures of how bad she has done damage to my arm. Ms. Wright doesn't belong in Rush, her credential is questioned big time. I'm sure Rush doesn't want to have this kind of nurse represent a hospital that got F rating for safety and quality issues. Fix this mistake and ensure Ms. Wright doesnt practice anywhere, she will do more harm than good to patients.

I have been using the services from Rush for over 15 years. This past week is the first time I had to go to the emergency room. I can't say enough about the first class treatment from everyone that helped me. Unbelievable professional and prompt service from every doctor, nurse, technician, front desk and billing staff. Having used other hospitals for emergency services for my family I have never had such a positive experience. Everyone was caring and concerned for my well being. Thanks to all who helped me out at Rush.

Most poorly operated maze of dilapidated infrastructure imaginable. Nothing is easy to locate, and everyone gives bad directions. By the time you reach your destination, they send you to another building across the Expressway and tell you that they left you a voice-mail yesterday changing the location of the appointment. When you finally get there, they tell you that you're late and that you need to reschedule, after it took months to get the appointment in the first place. I am never returning to this place as a product of my own volition. I quit Northwestern because their online portals and billing systems were so complicated that I could no longer stand it, but this is far worse. I must humbly return to my prior primary care physician.

My wife had to go to ER and they diagnosed appendicitis s. Once she was admitted into hospital the communication and physician care was not where it should and the physician was completely inaccessible. Pain management was less than it needed to be. Physician could not be reached prior to surgery. Not impressed and not sure I can recommend this hospital.

My review is on the general hospital of Rush University Medical Center. My mother was recently transferred from the ICU to the general building and I have to say I am very disappointed in Rush. That is the most depressing building, the rooms feel like prison stalls, how do expect patients especially patients with Alzheimer s to recover? Rush please update/renovate the old hospital before you update your lobbies and other location that does not specifically cater to your patients. This building makes me want to take my mother to Northwestern. Not happy with Rush University Medical Center.
