Originally I was invoiced $450 for my stay then I was invoiced for $900. I had to cancel one night of my stay because of the error, so disappointing as it was my 1st year anniversary with my wife. I don't understand how my card was charged then the room rate doubles after I've already paid. When I called to clarify the situation I was only left feeling frustrated more by the incompetent service & solution provided (which was none).

Highlight was the friendly service from our French waiter who was very attentive and was able to explain each dish etc.

Overall I feel very down.

I booked this hotel on recommendation from the Managing Partner of the firm I work for. I had no idea what to expect and had not even read through your web pages. I was so surprised and thoroughly enjoyed my very brief stay. I have since recommended the hotel and restaurant to my friends and even my daughter as an idea for her honeymoon. I will return and hopefully can do some of the tours.

Stayed in one of the Mt Sturgeon cottages for my 40th with my partner. The accommodation was very comfortable and with stunning views across the river to Mt Sturgeon. Very generous breakfast hamper.
We dined in the Parker St Project one night and the Dining Room the other. On both occasions we were picked up from our accommodation by a friendly member of staff and delivered to the hotel. The food was incredible, particularly the Dining Room.

Excellent menu options. Shared plates was a good way to sample several dishes. With 3 of us, chose fish, lamb & chicken, minted peas, potatoes and wedges. All delicious flavours & textures. Finished meal with sponge/sorbet and coffees. Excellent service from Lachlan. Will come again.

This was a great facility to celebrate a very special occasion. The cottage at Mount Sturgeon was a delight in a great and peaceful setting. We liked the special touch of the transport service to and from the hotel to the cottage. The fire being lit was another nice touch.

The food was great the wine was great in the main room, pub food was great and great drinks. The cottages were amazing.

That would sound like we had an overall good experience. However.
I have been wanting to visit the royal mail for over 6 years (it's not cheap when you go all out like we do). But I was extremely disappointed. The wait times to receive the food in both the pub and the main room was ridiculous, it just seemed like we were being forced to buy drinks while getting hungry and I certainly agitated. Front off house was understaffed but no one owned it!
When we first sat down I was asked what drinks I wanted(we had no menus to choose from). We got the menus and gave our order. The same waiter came back and asked me I we wanted any drinks! (Clearly he forgot he just took out order).
When you are going to a supposedly 2 hat restaurant you have a level off expectation, which needs to be met when you price at a 2 hat level.. Your place did not meet the minimum...
I have honestly had better from small joints in Brunswick.

I felt sorry for the staff, but we are in Australia, just own it. Own that you're having a n off night and make compensation. For a long weekend you should have planned it better.

I would like to have some comfort that it was just one night, but our next night n the pub was worse.

Talking with the other patrons they all had the same experience.

There was a significant mouldy smell in our room of unknown cause.
There was a miscommunication between reception and the restraunt regarding our restraunt booking leading us to the chefs table. The experience was nice but not overly our sort of thing......abit confronting.
Very disappoimting breakfast.....we were told that we were only allowed to select one item from the menu and one coffee. We felt thus was quite unusual for a hotel experience

The mountain view room we had was spacious and comfortable. The view of the sunrise over Mt Abrupt was spectacular as was the variety of birds.
The dining room is elegant but relaxed. We had the 5 course menu and the quality of the food was excellent. We decided not to go for the wine matching but relied instead on the sommelier who was knowledgeable and recommended some truly memorable wines.
The breakfast menu was a bit confusing probably because the explanation from the waiter was not completely clear. The quality of the breakfast was however very good as was the coffee.
We really enjoyed our stay and hope to return soon.

We stayed at the cottages and couldn't be happier. Cosy place to stay with amazing views. The staff were fantastic, with excellent service and they were super friendly and helpful. The food at the Parker Street Project and the Wickens in particularly was very good. Would happily return.

This is the second trip we have made to the royal mail. We really enjoyed the whole experience, apart from the meal itself. We felt the food was over far too complicated, too salty and did not respect the flavours of the ingredients in each dish. The crawfish dish was a good example of this.

Breakfast the second morning was very slow; we waited nearly an hour after ordering for our dishes (other than juices and coffee). They were busier which slowed everything down.
Absolutely loved the degustation dinner with our party of four. Food innovative and delicious. Even tho we were having the 5-course set; in reality it was 8-9 with extra dishes from the other set included. Loved the culinary "joke" at the end of the meal - upending the potplant to reveal choc soil and truffles. Great fun! Thank you!

Food was ok in Wickens but nothing really blew my mind. Matching wines were fantastic though. Slow food is good but at the start of the night it was to slow. Chairs were uncomfortable to be sitting in for 4.5 hours. Staff were great, very attentive and knowledgeable on the wine and food.

We absolutely loved every minute of our visit to the Royal Mail Hotel. The dining experience was superb, the rooms are amazingly beautiful, and the service we received was absolutely 5-star. We are planning on coming back again, and have already recommended to friends and family. Keep up the great work, and we can't wait to visit again!

Outstanding place. Beautiful location, excellent service, 2500 wines on the wine list and best of all, the food. For those who review the Royal Mail Hotel as being anything less than 5 star, I say that you are either clueless as to what good food is, or you're just the type of person who likes to have a whinge.

The food was rated higher than 3 stars, but some elements of the service let down the overall experience. The discovery of a hair in one of the dishes was ignored by staff with not a word in reply. Food and wine were excellent so it was a pity that the overall experience was not as good

This was a very special and memorable occasion because of the outstanding quality of the restaurant and the obvious passion for Dunkeld demonstrated by the Myers family through lovely touches like the sculpture works, the magnificent botanical gardens and the beautiful coffee table book of the locals. This passion for the place and for heritage is what makes it such a unique experience

Ordered the pumpkin dish and surprised to get a plate with a very large chunk of roast pumpkin on it, sprinkled with toasted pepitas and a very small amount of goats cheese and parmesan. Found there was a lot of pumpkin and not much flavoring to go with it. Very over priced for what we got. Also ordered hot chocolate and coffee both of which were very bitter. The meal was redeemed by delicious desserts of apple tart & the pannacotta. Service was good but it was very quiet.

Great weekend get-away experience, cottage was extremely comfortable and the lack of tv, Wi-Fi and mobile phone reception was a welcome relief. The breakfast hamper delivered to the cottage was generous and delicious. Dinner for one in the restaurant was a great experience and the service and quality of the food is outstanding. All of this with that incredible view of Mt Sturgeon!

It is over-rated, poor value. And, there is nothing worse than being mislead over the phone. The rooms are no better than the average motel down your local highway. The food is OK, nothing special.

We were celebrating my husband's significant birthday with dinner and bed and breakfast at the Royal Mail. The dinner was exquisite, each dish bursting with so many individual flavours, but blending so beautifully together and the special treats for the birthday were much appreciated and added to the magic of the evening. Each course was a work of art. The matched wines were wonderful. The staff were attentive, but not intrusive. The breakfast continued on with high quality garden fresh ingredients. The accommodation was very comfortable, and it was great being able to just cross the road after indulging in so many wines. Thanks to all concerned for a memorable special birthday treat.

This is one place we keep coming back to. Love the Parker Street Project.. where you can share dishes ! Menu is ever changing. Just depends what they have picked from the garden.
But the pickled vegetables are always amazing. I've brought the kids here also.. they love it also. Wait staff are so well trained and knowledgeable about what they are serving.

Thanks for a great weekend. Every staff member was friendly, professional and went out of their way to make sure people had a great time. Wickens showcases great local produce and a wine cellar of which the restaurant is rightly proud. Head chef is awe-inspiring and Matthew and Bec - thank you for making it a weekend to remember!

Very impressed by the wine list and with the services of Peter the sommelier who looked after us on Sunday night. The wait-staff were good and we had a great time.

My wife thought the 8 course degustation took too long a time to get through (about 4 hours); I am not sure this is a problem overall as I'm more used to it, so don' take this as a negative - rather, at the request of dining guests, whether dinner could be completed more quickly.

Apart from the above, we are very happy with our first time experience.

Shocking dining experience. Writing a review online is a last resort ordinarily however, after escalating our concerns on the experience on the day (Xmas Day lunch), only to be given the GMs card by the incompetent young kid running the show (nothing against him personally but, poor management choice to not have more senior management present on a very busy day) who suggested we raise our concerns with the GM. A follow-up email to the GM was met with I ll be in touch when I return to work . Still awaiting contact. Disappointing from such a well regarded regional destination. Shocking food, appalling value, even worse service. Give this one a miss, especially on occasion days!

A little disappointed that the hotel did very little in doing more for the AFL grand final in the bar area, lack of seating, tables took up space, no balloons or streamers no finger or snack food offered freely to add to the atmosphere and costs very little. Little confused about what we could order from the breakfast menu, what was included in our package, was there fresh fruit, cheese's, cold meat's or pastries on offer? Probably a little more communication from the waiting staff when we are seated would help. Loved the room, pool area looked tired I don't think there was a spa or gym which would be lovely around a revitalized pool area with those wonderful views. Nothing like a lovely outdoor spa after a day of bushwalking and before a beautiful meal in your restaurant. Cheers.
