Nice hanging spot for the kids, next to the NE Acquarium and a 11 minutes walk to the Children's Museum. And 10 mnts walking to the frog pond. A whole day of fun for the little one's.
I love going to this Greenway.
It s centrally located for a good time:
To one side is the North End (Little Italy) and to the other side Boston Public Market and Union Oyster House. You re also less than a half-mile from the Wharf and Aquarium.
This greenway is great for:
kids, families, friends, couples and if you re doing a meetup group. They have splash zones for the kids, and you ll see students and picnickers everyday.
The Views:
The trees and flowers are well kept and beautiful. It has a nice view of the old historical parts of Boston as well as the skyline.
The park is safe from 7am till 9pm. I haven t visited outside those hours so I can t make any claims. But generally speaking it s well-lit and there are plenty of people including park maintenance and police/rangers.
Long green space and beautiful public space! The little ones can enjoy the fountains or have a beautiful location above their ears, with a wonderful view of the city skyline.
Bravo Boston! The Greenway is beyond my wildest expectations. What an incredible way to bring the city together.
Beautiful green and public space for residents! Little ones can enjoy the fountains or just have a nice lay on the grass with a stunning view of the city skyline. Or take a swing on their swing chairs.
Beautiful park in the middle of the city with lots of water, fountains, picture exhibition and seating.
One my favorite green space area in Boston. I love going to this place!! It is also good for family and Children!!!
Beautiful green spaces right in the city. Great place to visit and relax with friends or family.
Beautiful area. We went during the Boston Local Food Festival and bumped into a vendor called "The Baklava Project" that makes homemade baklava. It was amazing
Family friendly and safe! Great sanctuary in the middle of the city
Beautiful day and the kids had a blast cooling off by running through the Circle Fountain
Beautiful park that connects several wonderful areas with highlight to the Quincy Market
Breathtakingly beautiful gardens and walkways. Flat paths, suitable for strollers, wheelchairs, or people of any age. The shrubs conceal the roads from view. Safe crosswalks.
They are calling police on performers that have a right to be there.
Beautiful place to walk through and enjoy some scenery
Had an awesome time walking the greenway especially passing this yellow house installation by Artist Mark Reigelman. Photo credits to my girlfriend Steph Del Rio :)
Perfect place to enjoy lunch in the heart of the city.
The carousel is a hit with kids! Always something fun and new to see and explore here.
Clean .. Innovated ... Spacious ... Convinced... Relaxibg
An oasis in the city is a huge road of grass and trees that starts from China town and reaches the north end. A place where people come but relax.
Marker is at north end of greenway and is still under some construction. Look to the south east for the rest of the greenway to visit.
A great place to feel surrounded by green right in the city's heart. There are some scattered water fountains for kids to play, and lots of open space for outdoor activities
A marvelous linear park running along the former route of the RT 93 expressway which is now buried below ground. The park has many interesting amenities like a sculpture garden, a farmer's market, and spaces where high-end food trucks are often stopped. You can follow this from South Station all the way to the North End, practically to the Washington Street Bridge.
Really amazing green space, made from the worst of late 20th century urban development (it's the roof of a tunnel for car traffic.) Great place to take a walk in the summer. Lots of plants, art and spaces to sit down quietly. Worth a stop on any good weather trip to Boston.
Among the greatest examples of highway infrastructure/space reutilization. It is impossible to walk along the greenway without imagining just how detrimental and underused such space was when the infrastructure lay bare above the surface. Great place for a stroll to take in the city views and the higher energy of Boston's downtown core.
I was pleasantly surprised to see the greenway finished. You can legit walk from the Haymarket station to South station safely. Whoever designed this definitely did an excellent job. Outside of Haymarket station is the start of the greenway where you will find the area where there are tables and they are covered so in the summer your kids can play in the water (there are small water jets that squirt from the ground) and you can drink your coffee and snack on your cannoli from a bakery in the north end. Walk all the way through on the path surrounded by beautiful shrubs trees and flowers. When you reach south station, if its Tuesday or Thursday you can shop at the farmers market. Highly recommend.
I remember before the big dig what that area looked like. Now its basically a park! What a difference to the city and the atmosphere it brings! Great attraction.
Came for the Boston Local Food Festival
I thought there would be more free things...but Yelp was there and I got a bag! Wooo.
Lots of great stands and friendly happy people working them, happy to show their goods. Too many items just for sale though--when there's a bunch of things that are similar you have to try before you buy!
People need to learn how to Q though...My friend was almost knocked over!
Nice park to walk through with some water features for the kids.
This park is beautiful and not as noisy as I thought. It has a carousel and water fountain which you can run under in the summer. The traffic lights are very fast and responsive. Lots of beautiful trees and bushes. This park is a great way to get from place to place in downtown Boston.
In the former shadow of the elevated highway now grows this modern classic tradition of public green space. Take a swing, pull up a chair, walk along the paths, a true gem.
overall a great area park to explore though it CAN be a prime target area for thieves and scam artists so be careful also can have many homeless people around i see them often throughout the entire length of the park. but overall its a relatively safe and wonderful park that extends from South Station all the way up to Haymarket Square connecting much of the Financial District, Seaport, Waterfront, Aquarium/Harborwalk, and much of the North End & Fanueil Hall a great place to explore relax have lunch and spend time to see what was ONCE the DREADFUL I 93 Southeast Expressway to NOW a beautiful clean park good in almost ANY season just be advised it is OPEN AIR so it is exposed to the Elements Weather Pending!
It seems like there should be more fairs and festivals in this space. The water fountains and grass are nice, but I felt a little like the space is unprepared when it comes to hosting markets. They need to advertise more in order to be Haymarket's SOWA space (not that I want the food truck crowd stampeding over the greenery!) It be interesting to see the local businesses take advantage of this space more.
Modern sculptures, organic horticulture, and beautiful foliage in downtown Boston - what's not to like? Well, the traffic - if you walk through at rush hour, it's a headache - honking and sirens, the air acrid with car exhaust. But if you visit early-EARLY in the morning during spring or fall bird migration, the RK Greenway is a little big magical. The gently curving design of the park must resemble a river from the air, because it reliably attracts birds usually seen near rivers or willows: yellow-bellied sapsucker, Lincoln's sparrow, swamp sparrow, and Northern waterthrush. It's also a magnet for migrating hermit thrush, ovenbird, and common yellowthroat. Every now and then, a yellow-breasted chat ends up here as well.
Beware the lunch rush during the work week; it's a great time to buy some pork and scallion dumplings, but not a great time to see birds in this lovely little urban greenspace. For the non-birders, there's a beer garden, a weekly farmer's market, food trucks of course, and reliably great food in Chinatown (Dumpling Cafe! Suishaya! Shojo!) within easy walking distance.
The Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy is going to build luxury hotels on the pristine Peddocks Island.
What s next? A casino? Where exactly is their private funding coming from?
Beautiful addition of green spaces right in the city. It is a very nice place for a relaxing walk or a sit. There are fountains, a carousel, art, and sometimes market stalls. The whole Greenway is nice, modern, and clean.
A wonderful oasis of trees, flowers, mini gardens and outdoor art works in downtown Boston right next to South Station. This is a beautiful respite for the weary bus and train travelers with a stop-over in Boston, visitors to the Boston Harbor area and all the hard-working people in the downtown district. The Greenway Park meanders from South Station to the Aquarium and the North End. It is intricately designed so that many mini gardens open up within the park. Outdoor sculptures and murals add an exciting touch to the many unique areas marked by blocks of granite, stone steps or mini plazas. Truly a gem and a beautiful addition to the Boston Harbor neighborhood.
Nice place for everyone. Fountains, green spaces and walkways.
Great place! Especially the water fountain for kids.
Wonderful, expansive green space in the heart of Boston. Weekly farmer's market when it's in season, and year-round can often find food trucks here. A lovely place to take a relaxing walk or sit outside and enjoy a nice day. A carousel and numerous fountains operate here during warm weather.
Such an amazing walkway. Plenty of room for people, bikers, tourists, etc. Several adorable pig statues as well! We wandered from the Boston Flower Show through to the Quincy Market.
Gorgeous slice of paradise in Boston. Food trucks, farmers markets, beer gardens...it has it all! Also attend many free fitness classes here which are awesome. Great place to picnic or hang out in the city!
Walk the whole way from South Station to North End! Gorgeous gardens!
Didn't get to explore and relish it fully. But I did enjoy the current art installation near South Station and the edge of Chinatown. On 9/13/2017 the art installation was a big 3-D printer that made red roosters. One per customer, please, says the sign. I didn't get one, however, as it takes about 2.5 hours to print the rooster, and someone was already awaiting the finish-and-drop of a red rooster each time I went past.
Wonderful linear park that unites many parts of the city, from the North End to Chinatown. Temporary art installations and murals complement the landscaping and garden elements. A few older shade trees would be nice....but that is a work in progress. Worth a stroll from end to end. And don't miss a frolic in the Rings Fountain and a ride on the carousel featuring all the native species!
great place to enjoy outdoor walks, picnics, food trucks and restaurants
The Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway Conservancy is a non-profit organization that manages and maintains the Greenway, a contemporary public park in the heart of Boston. The Greenway spans 1.5 miles and is home to beautiful gardens, fountains, art installations, food trucks, and more. It's a popular destination for both locals and tourists alike who come to gather, unwind, and explore.
The Greenway was created as part of the Big Dig project which aimed to replace an elevated highway with an underground tunnel system. The project was completed in 2007 and the land above it was transformed into what we now know as the Greenway.
The Conservancy's mission is to ensure that the Greenway remains a vibrant public space for all to enjoy. They work tirelessly to maintain its beauty through horticulture programs that include planting seasonal flowers and maintaining trees throughout the park.
In addition to its natural beauty, the Greenway also features several art installations that are rotated throughout the year. These installations are designed by local artists who use various mediums such as sculpture or light displays to create unique experiences for visitors.
Food trucks are also a staple on the Greenway providing visitors with delicious options from around Boston's diverse culinary scene. From lobster rolls to tacos there is something for everyone on this urban oasis.
One of their most popular events is "Greenway Play" which takes place during summer months where families can enjoy free games like giant Jenga or cornhole while enjoying live music performances from local musicians.
The Conservancy also offers educational programming such as guided tours of their gardens or lectures on topics related to sustainability or urban planning.
Their commitment towards sustainability extends beyond just education programming but also includes initiatives like composting food waste from vendors on site or using environmentally friendly cleaning products throughout their facilities.
Overall, The Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway Conservancy has done an incredible job creating a beautiful public space in downtown Boston while ensuring it remains accessible for all visitors regardless of background or income level. Their dedication towards maintaining its beauty through horticulture programs combined with unique art installations make it one of Boston's must-see destinations year-round!
