I ve never bought anything from this place My review is strictly from reading the owner responses to other reviews. The responses that appear are only to negative reviews. Not one to thank a positive reviewer. All negative reviews have a sarcastic or condescending response. I would not frequent this business simply because of the owner s (or whomever is responding to these reviews) attitude.
I know everyone has the right to their opinions, but I ve never had a bad experience with this place. I ve only gotten cupcakes here and they ve only been amazing. My husband who isn t a sweet eater even likes them. Their very unique with their flavors and creations. Another positive thing is their always changing the flavor. If I had to say one thing negative it but be their high in price. Give this place a chance.
Never had a vegan cupcake that tasted so fantastic! I love getting a dozen of these before a family get together for those in my family who are vegan. Truly do not compare to the competition.
These cupcakes ROCK!! Pardon the pun. The staff is very friendly as well. I was looking for something special for my wife s birthday, I m tired of the mass produced chain bakeries that use off the shelf cheap ingredients, and found Rockin Cupcakes. I was instantly greeted with a smile and a friendly face and since it was my first visit they took the time to describe each cupcake. I took them home to my wife and we had our first bite and instantly fell in love. Our favorite was the Lexington which my wife proclaimed the best cupcake I ever had . So, if you re looking for a quality over quantity cupcake this is the place.

I went in because they were about a mile from my in-laws and we were having dinner there so I thought "Let's try 'em out." I usually go to Just Baked in Troy for on the fly dessert. I was SO monumentally disappointed with then! I paid almost $18 for 6 cupcakes. SIX!! When I actually got there the cupcakes were SMALL for the price. The other place I go I can get the same amount of cupcakes only LARGER for $3 less! The quality was okay but I will stick with Just Baked from here on out.
A co-worker brought some of these cupcakes in to work, they were pretty phenomenal. I'll definitely consider popping in the next time I have a sweet tooth.
Rockin' Cupcakes is fantastic, my favorite is the Yellow Submarine & The King! These guys deserve 5 stars!
I bought 3 cupcakes for my husband and daughter . We all were a bit dissapointed . The cakes are heavey, dense and lack flavor . The frosting is thick and remimded me of store bought . We had lemon with a lemon curd filling and a double chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting . They are not the worst cupcakes however they are not the best cupcakes eaither .
Wow - high priced cupcakes that are not as good as Kroger s - owner could also use some serious customer service training. YUCK,
Rockin' Cupcakes is my favorite place to get a perfect cupcake. They are all so moist and delicious. Every single one of them has been my favorite at one point or another. It's hard to pick just one!
They also did my wedding back in July and the cupcakes really made the night so special. I've never seen people so excited about a wedding cake before!
Mary and Jim are wonderful people and take pride in their bakery. This definitely shows through in their cupcakes. I highly, highly recommend you give Rockin' Cupcakes a shot- you won't be disappointed.
I LOVE this place! You can tell the buttercream frosting is homemade. I go here all the time and have yet to find a better cupcake. Well worth it. The idea of the shop is really cool, too. Every cupcake is named after a band or song and there is a cupcake of the month. Try it out and you wont be disappointed!
So far I have only tried the "Rolling Stone" cupcake but it was delicious. It had a lot of flavor, but was not overwhelming or overpowering like many cupcakes are these days. I could have easily eaten a whole dozen in a row, which says a lot because I usually am sick of cupcakes after just finishing one. The design of it was also great, creating a very appealing combination of flavors and texture.
Love these cupcakes. I need to have a birthday everyday to have a reason to have one everyday. Thanks Jim and Mary.
Bought two to bring home for my daughter and I when I was in the area.(no cupcake places in our neck off the woods) Worst cupcake we've ever had! The frosting is terrible. Its greasy, gritty (sugar) and sickening sweet not to mention way to much icing for such a teeny little cupcake and over priced for what it is! Very disappointing!
The attitude of the owners is enough of a reason not to go here. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
I am so disappointed in this business. I ordered 35 cupcakes for my wedding via e-mail (one of two ways to order cupcakes from them, as suggested by their website). The owner e-mailed me straight back, and I thought that was a good sign that they were on top of things. I think it's awesome that you can order any number of any combination of flavors. However, those were my only positives.
I came to pick up the cupcakes the day before my wedding (we agreed on this in our communications). The gentleman that was working that morning was very kind, but informed me that he didn't have any orders to be picked up that day. He went to the back and pulled the ticket that had my order written on it, which had the date of September 10th on it (the day of the wedding). I said it was okay because the wedding was the following day, so I would come back in the morning to get them. He apologized and said they would definitely be ready.
I called before leaving my house the day of my wedding because I obviously didn't have any time to waste in chasing down cupcakes that were already a day late. The owner answered the phone and was incredibly sassy when I asked if the order was ready to be picked up. Throughout our exchange she kept bringing up that my order was "Via e-mail, right?" and "Our cupcakes are made fresh every day. They're not frozen. You really wouldn't to get them the day before your event. You'd want them to be fresh." She was so rude that I finally said, "Well they weren't made fresh yesterday, when they were supposed to be picked up."
When I arrived at the bakery they were just finishing up decorating the last few. They looked fantastic, and I was so excited and relieved. Unfortunately, the girl that was working the counter could not get the cupcakes to ring up to the price that was written on the ticket, which was also the price I was quoted in the e-mails. She called the owner over, who was visibly flabbergasted that she'd made a mistake in pricing and informed me that I would have to pay TWICE the amount I was quoted. The look on my face was clearly pure annoyance and anger, and she noticed. She offered to give me 6 of the cupcakes free of charge, then asked, "Is that fine? Tell me now if it's not. Is it fine?" I said, "I guess, whatever. I really don't have time to deal with this right now. These were supposed to be ready yesterday and then when I called this morning to check if they were done, the person that I spoke with was very rude."
She admitted it was her on the phone. I told her she was sassy and reminded her of the inconvenience of having to come back the day after they should be made, how terrible her customer service was, and the price difference was outrageous. If she didn't think her cupcakes were good the next day then she should have said that from the beginning and suggested the delivery service that they offer (for $14). She again said that the cupcakes were made fresh, not frozen and brought up the e-mail thing. Honestly, I'm happy that I have the e-mails. There is no miscommunication, unlike speaking on the phone or in person. All the information is right there to read.
I understand that owning a bakery is not easy. I understand there are long hours, but for the sake of your business and holding onto any customers that may want to visit you again (not us), GET A MANAGER. The owner should not be dealing with customer service. She, alone, drove us away. The cupcakes themselves are dense and dry, though wonderful flavor profiles, decorations and the naming theme is awesome. It's clear from the reviews that many people enjoy them. I would have paid the extra amount for the cupcakes if any acceptance of making mistakes or apologies had been made. Instead, the blame was being forced onto me and it was completely uncalled for. Rude, shady, and unbelievable.
Was running late and was trying to make it before they closed so I called them and without asking they offered to wait for me. The cupcakes were delicious too!
I have been coming here for years and the cupcakes and staff are always amazing! I don't believe the negative reviews...especially the person passing through. Why would they move over to that spot and not expect that to happen!?
If I could give Rockin Cupcakes less than one star I would. I loved the decor of the store and the staff was very friendly, but the cupcakes were horrible. They were dense, had a horrible texture, and the frosting was way to sweet. I would, however, try it again to see if they improve.

DO NOT GO HERE. My grandmother bought a 8inch vegan cake for my sons birthday. He is lactose free. This is the worst tasting vegan cake I have EVER tried.
The frosting was the consistency of lard and it had absolutely NO flavor. And she paid 63 dollars for an 8 inch round cake!!!! The price and taste were absolutely not worth it!!

We ordered a Birthday cake for our daughter and were shown a picture on their website (see PIC#1 in the review). The online cake looks professional and certainly worth the $70 price tag. However what was delivered looks like something an 8 year old baked in a toy oven.
The owner has a variety of ridiculous excuses ranging from "The material used in the online cake was different" to "The online cake is bigger than the one we baked for you". Not once were we offered an apology or a credible explanation. FALSE ADVERTISING? Absolutely? Pathetic Customer Service? For sure!
We should have read the online reviews from other ex-customers with similar experiences prior to ordering.

The cupcakes were actual rocks, honestly I m sure at some point they were fresh but before I bought these they decided to hide them behind the trash can for 6 months, the frosting was somehow inconsistent in one cupcake sometimes it was so sweet that my grandkids would get diabetes or it was so bland and greasy that I could fry the cupcake in it. Just don t come here the old owners were head and shoulders above these people

This place is a joke!!! We just spent 65.00 on a troll's cake for our daughters birthday party and the cake was unedible no one at the party finished a pice!! So we decided to take back the rest of the cake!! And they said they were sorry it must have been the die in the frosting!!!!! But they never once offered any kind of refund or to replace it with something you could actually eat!!! Terrible business practices will Neve ho back THIS PLACE SUCKS!!!!!
This place "Rocks!!!!" and no pun intended!!! Cupcakes are amazing but the cake they made for my birthday was nothing short of INCREDIBLE!!!! The owner, Ken, is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Two thumbs up with chocolate icing on them!!!

Our family LOVES Rockin' Cupcakes. They always have the best tasting cupcakes and we love the rock n roll theme. We order cupcakes from them for all of our special occasions and they never disappoint. Go there as soon as you can... and while you're there you have to try the Lexington, which is a salted caramel. Wow.
Absolutely amazing! I am not really sure what the other reviews are talking about, but I can tell you that these cupcakes are THE BEST I have ever had. I would highly recommend for large orders, or if you are just in the neighborhood and want a sweet treat :) Keep up the great work!
This review is not for the cupcakes, which looked pretty good- alas I will never try them because I had an interaction with the staff here that boggled my mind and I will definitely never return. This location has an entrance within the Papa Joe's grocery store, and a door that leads from the store to the street. I was doing some shopping at Papa Joes and passed through the lobby of Rockin Cupcakes to go to my car- as it was convenient. As I was making my way through- a woman loudly proclaimed "CAN I HELP YOU?" I responded "JUST PASSING THROUGH,THANKS" to which she rudely/obnoxiously/somewhat irately retorted "PAPA JOE'S EXIT IS OVER THERE". Now I don't normally take issue with rude people, but this woman seemed to be making a game of scolding anyone who exits through the cupcake shop. Maybe this woman was having a bad day, I don't know- but she made my day worse. If I owned this shop, I would use my location within the popular grocery store to my advantage- greet the passerby etc. Discourteous and in poor taste.
We have been going here for years and after today I will never return. I have never felt less like a "valued customer" in my life, nor have I been treated with such little respect at a place of business. You have lost a family of loyal customers today.
The best cupcakes I've had, professional or homemade. The selection is diverse and unique. The quality of flavor is so far ahead of other cupcake shops I've been to. And their cupcake of the month keeps me coming back. I try to give other cupcake shops a chance, but I'm beginning to see a pattern. This place is worlds ahead of any I've tried so far.
Update: Not as good as the old owners. Cupcakes went downhill. New owner led to my wife quitting there. My wife and I are responsible for 11 five-star reviews on here, so this rating is riding on the coattails of the old owners.
Update: Cupcakes are still really good. Not as good as before, but better than the average cupcake shop. Owner is still rude. I came in and bought 2 dozen cupcakes and she interrupted me, told me I can only get what's in the case (which I was) and then told me I should place an order because that way I won't empty her case. Lol. God forbid you empty your case.
We were looking to try some cupcakes before placing an order for a wedding shower. This place came highly recommended. The Rochester Hills location is only open Thursday-Saturday during the winter, which isn't communicated well with the public unless you call. We walked in on a Thursday, customer service was friendly and personable, and the cupcakes were decorated beautifully. However ordering them was a bit time consuming as all the cupcakes are labeled with cute rock & roll names with no flavor descriptions so i kept having to ask about each individual cupcake and would have a hard time remembering them if i wanted to place an order later. The cupcakes were a bit dry and lacking in the unique flavor combinations we were expecting (only decorative bacon in the camel apple bacon cupcake for example) and ended up going with a different bakery to place our order.
The lemon cupcake was a plesant surprise. It was a day old, yet still moist and flavorful. Come early in the day for the full selection. I also tried the chocolate salted caramel. It was a bite of sweet love. They are pricey, but worth every cent.
Sad to say that after ordering over 70 cupcakes for my shower, I was so very disappointed in the over all customer service that I received. You would think with an order that was fairly large they would be rather accommodating, Absolutely NOT!!! When it came down to the final details we were treated so rudely, almost as if we were putting them out. From the time that we wanted to pick them up to how we wanted the special large $30 large "custom cupcake" decorated. Unreal! Finally when we went to pick them up as we were leaving with many thank you's (even though getting to this point was not pleasant) all we got back was attitude!!! I try to support all local small business with that said, I also believe that the customer and their satisfaction should be the number one priority... They reassured me that they were getting there bright and early that morning to bake for us. If that was the case I do have to say I don't think some of the flavors would have been so dry,
as for the other ones tasted just okay.
To top off my whole experience, We were doing a baby reveal at the shower and the middle of the large cupcake was SUPPOSED to be blue to let everyone know that we have a boy coming. Well to our surprise when it was cut into the filling was GREEN!!! When I called to voice my shock about that, they insisted they put blue in it (we do have the pictures to prove otherwise) gave a sarcastic remark and then hung up on me. Unreal!!! So needless to say, I would never recommend rockin' cupcake for a special event in your future!!
Hands down the best cupcakes I've EVER had. You've gotta try the chocolate buttercream-WOW is all I can say. So deliciously moist and worth every penny. Omnomnom!!

Our whole family really enjoyed cupcakes here. The cupcakes were very fresh, cool looking and tasty. The store also has ice cream from a local dairy farm for an added bonus.
I brought a cupcake home for my wife and daughters and all three of them were in heaven. It was the Lexington: a chocolate cupcake with salted caramel inside and a light, airy chocolate salted buttercream frosting. Even after sitting out all day at work the cupcake was still moist and delicious when I got it home. Very creative flavor combinations and beautiful presentation.
A+, would eat again.
If you live in Rochester and are debating between Rockin' Cupcakes and The Cupcake Station, let me save you the trouble... stick with The Cupcake Station. Rockin' Cupcakes were something I decided to try for my colleagues birthday, and the consensus from almost everyone was that the cake itself is dry and dense, almost like dry dread. The cupcakes were way overpriced for their quality.
