We rented a boat for a friend's birthday. Great staff! Hotel rooms were clean spacious and fun. Love that they had various local chefs cookbooks in the rooms!

By a considerable margin, the best hotel in Portland and one of the most memorable I've been to anywhere. Stayed here more than 30 times.
We have stayed here every New Years Eve for the past 8 years. First I want to say the employees are great. My issue is not with their service. It is the change in management, apparently. First, there is no ice machine on the second floor, so you have to go to the third floor, and if that is out to the fourth floor. Both were out of ice by 9:00 and were not replenished. Had to go to the front desk and get a 'baggy" of ice. The other issue is in room basic amenities. We each got one towel, one hand towel, and one washcloth. For a $400 room I expect not to have to call the front desk to please provide more linens. If this is the new norm, we will be altering our next years plans.
Lovely location, professional service, decent beer selection if local and regional brews.. :)
Nice...but super spendy. Glad we got a meeting discount. Love their pet policy.
Using the kimoton for a conference. Great staff and facilities for the most part, coffee sucks like I somewhat expect hotel coffee to but lunch for was good.
Was a great experience in the amazing room. Hospitality bar was a little expensive for us. We enjoyed the view and the extra gift for our wedding.
Expensive hotel but great place to stay in downtown Portland. I love brunch at The RedStar.
Great bedding. Hotel location is slightly off of the downtown track, but close enough to walk.
The staff was great, very friendly and helpful. From the valet to check in, to the desk calling a taxi in the morning, everyone was accommodating. The room was very clean, and decorated comfortably. Every amenity that omi needed was met, along with the WiFi that was included in my room. It was very comfortable and a pleasant stay.
Fairly nice hotel, good personal experience. Family staying in a separate room got stained sheets multiple times.
The service was great. We enjoyed having a junior suite where we could entertain our guests
The hotel was amazing. My girlfriend were only there for one night and honestly never wanted to leave. We were in room 514 which had a river view and a king bed. The considered our room to be a condo because we had a full kitchen, dining room living room with a couch that pulled out as a bed, and they also had a washer and dryer for if you were staying longer. As soon as you walked in to the front lobby you was welcomed. The valet took our bags to our rooms and even did a tour of it for us. It was just so amazing and beautiful there at night. We walked to our dinner reservations because it was only a 5 min walk away. But i believe the best part about our stay was the fact that they welcomed dogs and allowed them to stay for free. Definitely enjoyed our stay and will be going again.
I love Kimpton hotels and this one delivers on expectations. Nice rooms, nice lobby, nice people.
Very pricey for the size of rooms. If you're gonna shell out on a place, get one of their condo-style rooms which are likely to be worth it. Note - you can't access your own netflix from their TVs like at many cheaper hotels.
Wonderful boutique hotel in a great setting. Staff was great. Restaurant for breakfast was very good too. Clean and modern trappings in a great location. I could stare at the dragon boats all day!
This is a wonderful location for conferences. The service was excellent, the hotel beautiful, and the location was ideal for short walks between sessions.
Very nice room, comfortable bed, and clean. Room service food fees were a bit overpriced though, and hotel restaurant was out of many items. Local restaurants down the waterfront are much better options for food.
Beautiful hotel, great location and everyone was lovely
Parking can be a bit tough but it's a good venue otherwise.
This place has gone down hill. The Kimpton hotel chain was bought by the Holiday Inn chain. Since then, they took away some of the previous perks such as "raid the mini bar" and the free evening wine hour and free wifi. Now you have to pay a "resort fee" of $25 per night for the wifi snd wine hour. The bad news is that they automatically charge you the $25 whether you use the wifi or wine hour or don't use it. I protested the $25 fee and got it removed from my bill at check out.
I had lots of problems with the hotel. They are upgrading the lights to automatic so that everytime you enter the bathroom the lights go on. The problem was my room had a bathroom tub with a big window in front, so if I tried to take a bath in the dark and keep the windows open to enjoy the view, the lights went on automatically and everyone who would have looked at the window would have seen me naked. There was no way to turn the auto light feature off.
Be aware of the loud and crowded annual Dragon Boat weekend event that happens just outside the hotel. They set up loud speakers with continuing announcements and music going from 7:45 am to 5 pm on Saturday snd Sunday. It was really loud and even when I put a pillow over my head in bed, I could hear every word of every announcement in my room. I wished that the Kimpton Hotel would have warned me about this annual event when I booked. I wanted a relaxing weekend escape where I could sleep in and relax.
There has always been a problem with the ice the provide in bags from a cooler in the lobby freezing into big blobs that cannot be easily broken. The hotel put up a sign to not bang the ice on the side of the cooler, but what are you supposed to do then, bang it on the marble bathroom counter edges?
The river side views are great, but very pricey.
The hotel used to seem like a charming in city retreat that was worth the high prices. But now it just seems like another overpriced hotel.
Cindy really went the extra mile and made our anniversary stay off the charts!
A property I'll target first on my travels.
Very comfortable accommodations along the river, very accessible to the downtown Portland area. The King Tide restaurant has great food options on-site.
Very classic and antique, especially bed is pretty nice.
Nice view of the river and bridges, pet friendly, comfortable room, unlimited in/out with valet, and parks to walk your pet for their breaks.
Very nice. Good view. Nice people. Food was OK just not to my taste.
While the hotel is gorgeous, and sits in a great spot on the river, the drains in the bathroom would have drained faster with them plugged. My shower was a bath by the time I was done, I had to turn the water down to brush my teeth or it would fill the sink. One of the lights in teh bathroom flickered like I was in an old convenience store in the middle of nowhere. After paying $269 for a night at this place, I would have been happier paying $59 at La Quinta or Motel 6.
The bed was quite confortable. That's the only good thing I can say.
Hotel has a great view of the river. Nice cozy rooms, clean. Unfortunately breakfast is not free and is expensive.
Clean, pet friendly, and accommodating. Had a wonderful weekend in Portland.
Clean and sharp. Appreciate the attention to detail.
I figure I will get this review off the to-do list before google pesters me for days on end...
I just checked in, flying in directly from Minneapolis, MN. Although I was some 5 hours early, the human employee exercised his stellar coolness and granted my request for an extra-early check-in!
It's been some 6-7 years since my last stay here, and my memory does hold only pleasing experiences and left a 5-star impression.
Trust me, it's nothing short of a standard that is shared amongst every Kimpton Hotel that I have had a pleasure giving my business to.
Thanks, Riverplace!
Wonderful food. Loved the options for Portland Dining month
I attended a banquet there last night, the appetizers were fantastic and the main course really wowed me. The staff was very professional and courteous and the space was elegant. I would highly recommend it.
The room was nicely furnished, bed very comfortable, loved the decor with the Pendleton accents, the view was great, endless hot water in the shower & had great products to use (shampoo, conditioner, soaps...) restaurant & bar had good food, friendly staff. Would've given a 5 but we were missing chairs in the room. Front desk made it right when we checked out but could've really used them the evening before.
I just went over to the hotel to visit a friend of mine's they need to be picked up from the docks
This hotel is in a beautiful location right on the river in Portland. Very clean and comfortable environment as well. I attended a conference here and the food and staff were great. Furthermore, there was an issue that arose and as soon as the hotel staff was notified of the issue they addressed it quickly, professionally and graciously. I definitely recommend this hotel on all counts, staff, location and quality all 5 stars.
I have never such good sleep away from home upscale fine dining
The property was beautiful including the meeting room. However the service wasn't the usual kimpton quality I expected
I attended a work event. They provided a great lunch!
Lovely hotel. Comfortable rooms and they're dog friendly!
Fantastic hotel. Great location. Staff were friendly and very attentive to our needs. We will stay again.
Excellent hotel. Stayed one night with 2 others, and they gave us a complementary upgrade to a apartment suite since we couldn't all fit in the room we had booked. The front desk staff was the most friendly I've ever experienced. I also ended up leaving my jacket in the room, and was able to call the hotel a day later and the shipped me the jacket, without charge, across the country. A most enjoyable stay!
Had lunch in the bar area. Staff was friendly, patio dining was pleasant.
Wonderful location, friendly staff and crazy knitting project...
Tried to ask a few questions about a school project and they hung up on me after saying This has nothing to do with our hotel
Beautiful location on the river next to downtown. Impeccable service by the staff. Comfortable rooms.
Excellent facilities and breakfast at the hotel restaurant was delicious.
It was a nice hotel on the river with a good restaurant. Breakfast meals were a good portion and unique items on the menu.
Very nice and comfortable. Definitely would stay again. Food is awesome.
We have always stayed at the downtown kimptons. Staying at this particular hotel changed our view and enjoyment of the city. There is a nice little cafe downstairs too get a coffee and breakfast. Beautiful place in the water near a marina.. Definitely try this hotel. Service was great as kimptons always are.
Got some drinks at the restaurant. Really good spot.
We stayed in a 2 bedroom marina view condo. The rooms were very nice and clean. We loved the wine and cookie reception in the lobby from 5-6. The staff was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed lunch at the King Tide restaurant. Would absolutely stay again next time we are in Portland.
Just did the patio for drinks, a salad and mussels. Just lovely, great service and the mussels were tied for the best I've ever tasted.
Very very nice upscale clean friendly nice environment
This review should be qualified by saying that Portland is truly a walking / transit / taxi city and so there really is no "bad" hotel in SW Portland. Having said this, staying waterfront should not discourage anyone who is interested in visiting attractions such as the food pods, Pioneer Square, or even the Rose Gardens.
Portland is divided into four primary quadrants. The Riverplace is in the SW corner of the city, offering views of downtown, the docks, and the waterfront. I hope the following review gives you a good idea and "lay of the land".
Location: very good - walking around the city, we saw other hotels, including "The Nines", and "The Monaco", the latter also being a Kimpton property. Both are closer to center city, so it really depends on what you are looking for and looking to see. The reason that the location is not a big deal, is that it is only about 10 minutes to the Max / Trimet (Public Transit) system. Cross the street, walk two blocks to 2nd street, hang a right and go down to Yamhill, pay your $5 and you're set. We took the transit to visit the Rose Garden / Japanese Garden. If you are visiting Powell's Books or catching a Timber's Game, the route is also the same. We were fortunate enough to catch a Blazer's game as well and so you take the tram in the opposite direction "across the river." (Willamette).
Service: very good. Courteous staff, bartender, front desk etc. The only complaint was that the doormen on staff upon our arrival, were busy chatting and did not greet or offer luggage assistance. This being said, the others who we saw the remainder of the stay were fine. I happen to be of the opinion that newly arriving guests are most likely tired from a flight and would like attention. Housekeeping is good, but just so you know, there is no turn down service.
Food and beverages: very good - excellent staff, who are attentive and make good conversation. Definitely have a meal at Three Degrees - as with most of the food scene in Portland, the cuisine is creative and fusion based.
Amenities and cleanliness: no complaints - hotel is clean, as are the rooms. The rooms are basic and the bathroom is on the small side, but fine. Water pressure a little weak, but the hot water is hot. Portland has softer water, so just a heads up.
Other useful info:
- As a photo hobbyist, having the location provided by the Riverfront, gave me ample opportunities to shoot the city / waterscapes over a 4 day and rainy stay. The shots I posted are about 2 minutes from the hotel.
- 5 minutes from the closest Starbucks (located in a business center)
- Our room had windows that fully opened (great for photogs)
- About 5 minutes from Waterfront restaurants i.e McCormick and Schmidts
Decor is getting a little dated, but otherwise very comfortable.
Beautiful hotels. Great rooms. Great restaurant for breakfast.
Fun boutique hotel on the waterfront with easy walking distance to government buildings and downtown. The hotel offers bikes for guests' use and has a free "wine hour" from 5 - 6 pm daily. Rooms are comfortable and stylish. Only downside is the lack of a gym (although you can get a day pass to the 24 Hour Fitness nearby). The front desk says that they will be adding a gym to the hotel in 2017. Would stay here again.
My husband and I hardly have time together as he is active Army and I'm a full time student with a full time job and also a reservist. We recently got married and decided to go to this hotel as our "mini" honeymoon. The staff went above and beyond and made our experience there unforgettable! I will forever be gracious that they made our time there so special. Thank you all for making our stay remarkable! It meant the world to us!
We only stayed a few hours visiting my brother who was in town, but the place was nice. Valet, complimentary happy hour apps & wine, and key card entry to all areas for safety. They do allow dogs and there were a lot of dogs in the communal areas. In my brothers room they lacked blankets for the couches and the robe I put on had used Kleenex in the pocket. The view of the waterfront was gorgeous and the location is right next to downtown for easy access to eating and shopping.
The room was very nice, the fireplace was cozy, and the staff was very helpful, a great place to stay in Portland
Absolutely STELLAR service! The hotel is beautiful and we loved bringing our two dogs to stay with us. We had a wonderful time being so close to everything.
I was just doing some work there as a vendor but from what I could see this hotel is very well up kept with a restaurant attached to the lobby food smelled delicious when I walked into the main entrance there was catering with wine and horderves to compliment. Everyone had smiles on there faces I will definitely check back as a guest!
It was a very clean and comfortable room with a great view of the pier and river. The hotel is close to everything. Lots of amenities and they added a nice little touch to everything. It reminded us of the Stefanie Inn in Cannon Beach. The hotel staff were great. Would highly recommend it to anyone.
Surprisingly good breakfast. Try the egg whites dish.
My wife and I came here for our 9th wedding anniversary and had a great time- the whole staff was super friendly and I really appreciated their attention to detail- especially now with all this covid stuff going on. I'm pretty sure my front desk lady was Courtney- she was great!! Really helpful we will be coming back
We stayed at this hotel during the last leg of our trip because we wanted to finish off in luxury. This place did not disappoint! From the amazing soft beds/sheets to the wine tasting that is done daily we were more than impressed. Courtyard views of the water and also having access to bikes were a bonus. All the staff are very knowledgeable and each one is a different kind of "expert" in the area. You really get your money's worth!
Only thing I wasn't impressed with was the restaurant but even that was still good just didn't blow me away.
