Ambulance failed to put IV in me last year but did take me to hospital. never reached out about payment, I assumed it was taken care of. sold debt to a debt collector without ever trying to reach me.
Recently my step-daughter had to be transfer from one hospital to another and RAA was called. The staff that came were great and very professional. The problem came when we were sent a huge bill in the mail.
Even though my insurance covers transportation from one approved facility to another, RAA doesn't take any insurance at all. I wasn't aware of this at the time and of course we had no choice in how my step-daughter was transported. Just to add insult to injury the RAA did take the maximum amount that my insurance would pay and then sent me a bill for the rest, so they are getting paid twice!!!
Life is not fair I get that but when your tired and you need medical transportation and have no choice in the matter, it seems unethical to double dip on your received payments and they shrug and say we don't take any insurance when you question them.
Customer service when calling about a bill was beyond rediculous. I was notified of the bill when the city notified me of my reduced tax refund and why. I had to call 2 years after my accident. I asked what happened to the bill that I was never sent. They said they were "given" an address that was an address of mine that was former of mine, wasnt on my drivers license and I would never had given them. I may have been concious (but I blacked out) but common sense would say I wouldn't give that address. The address they had was all they had for contacting me. They never reached out to my insurance company to get my phone number or correct address. When I was on the phone, they blamed my insurance for not notifying me off the bill when THEY should have notified me. They were vere disrepectful and will NEVER use this service again.
I'm not one to slam public service workers, but the business practices of RAA are deplorable.
I was transported from Havana 59 to MCV hospital. That's one mile. And whatever happened in that one mile was worth about $600. Not to mention they don't honor wide-spread insurance or even help out students, unlike MCV -- who wiped my bill due to being a VCU student at the time.
So after that, I contacted them to explore ways to settle this debt and found that I would have to pay the entirety of it, as a student getting through grad school that made me sign a waiver that I would not work over 20 hours. So my hands were kind of tied monetarily. None the less, I set up autopay with them over the phone to chip away as I could.
I get a bill again indicating I had missed several payments and called again. They told me I hadn't paid and that my information had not been saved for auto pay. And I had to give them my bank information YET AGAIN.
Between some life changes, moving, a phone number change, I can image it would be hard to reach me, but my address changes were on file and they were very happy to seize my tax returns (attached to my new address) a year and a half later.
Fast forward about 2 years later, I get a mysterious collections charge on my credit report. Come to find out these dummies took me to collections and that negatively affected my credit score by 100 points. Oh FICO credit score, you look sick.
So, if it's between dying and having the RAA come save you,
maybe consider dying.
Or take an uber.
RAA crew who picked me up from work a couple years ago when I fell and fractured my tibia in my right leg never splinted my leg to keep it from moving and had me walking on it claimed, after one pressure test with hands, claimed it wasn't broken. They also said McGuire's VA hospital ER was on divert. I made it clear I wanted to go to McGuire's. They called and found only the mental health was on divert. After having x-rays done on right leg, it was found I had a lateral fracture of the tibia at the joint. So much for all of their "infinite" wisdom and "x-ray vision." All need to be completely retrained. Complete laziness and disrespect to a Vet not caring for him better.
This company should be ashamed. Charges are outrageous!!! But at least their staff was nice.
Richmond City Police arrested me and called RAA to treat me. I get a bill from RAA for $560.00. I was a prisoner, and the Police called them not me. Why do they expect me to pay the bill? They turned it over to a collection agency which put it on my credit report. The charges were thrown out of court for the trumped up charge.
I am so very thankful to the 2 fellows who came to my home when I dislocated my hip. They were most sensitive to my pain and knew exactly what to do to best care for and transport me. Thanks so much guys
Ill croak before I take a Richmond ambulance again. They drove me 5 min in an emergency and will not budge on the $550 charge. No negotiations, that's their NEW policy. Smh keep your help. I just recorded their representative saying "they were taking settlements but are no longer at this time"? Let me get this right an AMBULANCE company changing their policy to NOT taking settlements DURING A PANDEMIC?!?!?!
