Took my 3 year old daughter to a and e for the first time. Brilliant covid precautions and efficient staff. Dealt with in a very friendly, professional manner and went the extra mile to try to calm my three year old and put her at ease. Felt very confident we were receiving the best care possible.

I've been to many hospitals due to my disabilities, having four children and being accident Prone. My husband is in the military so we have lived everywhere between Devon and the Highlands of Scotland and this Hands down is the best A&E that I've ever been to. If you want polite, happy, helpful, caring, going out of the way to help, doing everything they think of to help then you are going to the best place I honestly can't praise this place enough.
I've since been to the stroke clinic and me and my daughter have had MRI done I can not believe how amazing and clean this place is I 100% put it down to amazing staff so kind friendly they make horrible situations into a enjoyable experience.

Sitting in X-ray reception ... but wanted to highlight incredible service, patience and kindness of Martin in the desk ... managing people, helping with forms, helpfully directing lost patients to the right departments...

Above and beyond and patience galore.

Went to A&E for headaches and fatigue that have lasted two months so far, whilst I didn't really get to the bottom of it all, it felt so refreshing to have a step in the right direction after having to jump through so many loops since covid with local GPs and 111, only to turn up without appointment and get treated in what I consider a prompt manner.

Wish I could remember every nurse and doctors names that helped out in order to sing their praises but my memory is shocking on a good day let alone when tired.

Even during the crazy times we've had all these doctors and nurses continue to work with a reassuring and friendly attitude and accomplish something that most of us couldn't do on a basic day,

Yes waiting times can be long on difficult days but at the end of the day you're in a&e for a reason and waiting times really should be the least of your concerns, you're not exactly waiting because every nurse and doctor is stood around chatting you're waiting because they're providing service after service and are constantly under a bus load of work.

Everything possible was done to cross the 'T's and dot the 'I's and even towards the end was offered another drink and shown where the nearest toilet was.

Once again thank you to every nurse and doctor that had a hand in seeing me today, hopefully these headaches and fatigue go away.

Deserve Zero or less. Kemp Welsh ward absolutely disgraceful care- or rather neglect. Refused to give me adequate pain relief, had to beg for food and even basic hygiene needs.
I left in more pain than before I entered.
IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE DO NOT SET FOOT IN THIS HELL HOLE.
CQC have been notified of the neglect of care.

This part of the review is based on my experience with the Emergency Department only. I had three different nurses and one doctor help me. All were efficient, nice and treated me with respect. They communicated well with one another, saw patients quickly, got blood tests and X-rays done in a few hours, kept checking my stats and generally were attentive.

I could hear the staff with other patients and they were just as great with them. Really appreciate the help and care I received. I didn t go to the hospital when I should have (when my Covid symptoms were at their peek) because I was worried my experience would be as bad as my spouse s in London last year (when he went to A&E for a life threatening condition) but it was the complete opposite. No comparison at all. The Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester was amazing. There was someone cleaning regularly as well and they had hand washing stations & hand same available.

The young Resident wasn t that knowledgeable which is expected on some level at that stage of learning but some basic knowledge seemed to be missing. Or as I like to say a knack for the obvious was missing. She overlooked some important stats that were abnormal which resulted in me having to see a private cardiologist afterwards because my condition wasn t taken as seriously as it should have been and it turned out I had heart damage from Covid19. The A&E didn t perform am echocardiogram which is a must for heart issues. I was there for three hours and felt it wasn t as thorough as it should have been but that s the NHS. Underfunded.

For something serious like Covid19 organ damage my advice is to ask the paramedics to go to Southampton where they have more knowledge and experience and are using treatments that prevent things from getting worse. Winchester is a smaller less capable hospital so for heart issues and strokes patients should be sent elsewhere. Couldn t imagine the hospital in Winchester handling something like a major car accident with one Resident and one attending.

The Pathology Department is a different story. They are always disorganized, complaining and fighting with one another or yelling at patients. Always get a bruise from the pathologists here, never at the GP surgery and not at A&E. They ve also screwed up my bloods with another patients and I got their results but knew better because it was so off compared to months before and a private test weeks before. Very incompetent department that needs better management. They should take a lesson from A&E.
