It is hard to get a reservation for Friday lunch i...

It is hard to get a reservation for Friday lunch in August, but when you get one, you are rewarded for your patience. Last Friday was a lucky day for me. Lunch started with local spring vegetables -- snap peas, asparagus, and other fresh vegetables with poached yard egg, ricotta cheese, and lamb bacon. The silkiness of the poached egg was a great contrast to the crispiness of the vegetables and also to the saltiness of the lamb bacon. This was a perfect summer dish - refreshing and light. Next course was a salad of heirloom tomatoes with quail eggs, crab meat ravigote and bacon. One tiny, tiny detail that they do in August and that I really love is that they peel the tomatoes. And for some unknown reason, peeled tomatoes taste so much better than unpeeled tomatoes. But I am sure that it has something to do with the freshness of the tomatoes, as well. Next course was pan roasted blackfish sitting on top of rice and peppered oyster jus. This was melt in your mouth fish. Even if you did not do anything special that week or even that month, this was your reward to yourself for being you. Dessert was lemon custard with pistachio and grilled peaches. Just another perfect meal. Just another lunch at August.

I'm sure dinner is fabulous, but come for lunch! Getting a three-course fixed price lunch for $20 ought to be a felony, because it feels like stealing. Everything is spectacular -- try something that sounds unfamiliar. The goat cheese cheesecake was a revelation.

Very very nice restaurant, and classy! This is a great place for a date. I bit to expensive for my taste, but it's always good to come here for a special event. My boyfriend brought me here for our 4th year anniversary and I loved it. So elegant! Definitely will be coming back. Their food is delicious and their waiters are super friendly and attentive.

It is very hard for me to rate very expensive places five stars. If I could I would give August 4.5. The service and atmosphere was basically perfect. Our food was excellent as well but I just can't give it that extra 1/2 star. We had the flounder, the pork and the wagyu. Regardless of my waffling on the star, I expect you will enjoy your visit.

Without a doubt the best meal in New Orleans and maybe ....the entire United States I ve ever had. The gnocchi was incredible, lobster ravioli was soooo good. This is fine dining. Your entire staff should be proud. There s a reason you re rated highly and you should really take a moment to try this place out if you re visiting or if your a local.

This establishment is truly spectacular. My current favorite restaurant in New Orleans (!!!). It is priced for special occasions but the food and service are second to none. Our waiter had such intimate knowledge of every item on the menu - he knew where the ingredients were grown and processed and exactly how they were prepared. He made us feel so relaxed and comfortable and made excellent recommendations. Not only was the food incredible, but the presentation was exquisite. August truly spares no detail in their quest for excellence. We were there during Mardi Gras weekend and actually watched a parade pass right outside the window. The only thing August left to be desired is a return visit - and I pray I will have occasion to return again soon!

If you are looking for a first rate fine dining spot in New Orleans, August is a perfect fit. The food and service are top notch. I recently stopped in after a Pelican game and was more than impressed. Highly recommend the flounder Pontchartrain. Hope to visit again soon.

This restaurant is amazing from the excellent service to the welcoming decor to the unique dishes of fresh fish. I had a sheepshead fish, on the recommendation of the waiter, which I had never had before. It was "out of this world" . A white flaky fish prepared perfectly with a delicious sauce. My friend was gnocchi, also recommended by the waiter. -- soooo good. I don't think you can go wrong with any dish. They have a tasting menu which we would have tried but we were going to the theater. I would not go to New Orleans without stopping at August. Make sure you make a reservation in advance.

An experience. Mirroring the other glowing reviews, August is incredible. I had the pleasure of being able to take clients here for dinner and everything was delicious. My swordfish entree was made to perfection. The service, drinks, wine recommendation and dessert were all wonderful too. Highly recommended, one of my favorite restaurants of all time.

This was the best meal I have had in a year. A year! Wow it was so good. We had the tasting menu with the wine pairing. I could go on and on about each and every dish but literally everything was outstanding, even the dishes others ordered. This is my favorite restaurant in New Orleans and there is no doubt that I will be back. Often.

Literally the best meal I have ever eaten in my entire life. Going somewhere else for appetizers beforehand is probably the biggest regret I have from all my time in New Orleans. The pork and peaches dish blew my mind. The gnocchi was so good I wanted to cry. The key lime dessert was the perfect ending.

I was disappointed in my experience at August. Several friends recommended August and everyone agreed that it was one of the best restaurants in New Orleans. My chopped salad was decent, but not anything special. The presentation was flat as it was basically a plate with vegetables thrown on it. I ordered the pork and it was pretty good. The sausage that accompanied the pork was awful. Again, the presentation was flat and certainly not what I expected based on the reputation of the restaurant. The desserts were very good and the presentations were much better, especially the banana pudding. The most disappointing part of the meal was the service. It was fine until the end when we were choosing an after dinner drink. The waitperson brought out a glass for us to see if we liked it before we ordered it. It was excellent and we ordered a round for the table. The waitperson brought out 5 glasses instead of 6 and said that the taste that was served before was supposed to be a full serving and thus we had already received 6 pours for our table. It was very awkward and no one really knew what to say. This wouldn't have happened at the French Laundry or anywhere of that ilk. I'd be surprised if this place is still around in a few years, unless someone focuses on improving the operations.
