Wonderful independent record store. I thought places like this went extinct years ago. It will become a new go-to place to find new music.
Needed one record which they had but most everything on the showroom floor are new lps or reissues of old records.
Love supporting local business but the used selection that they store in basement is what a record store is all about. Good original pressings. Next time ill just email a list to do mail order vs an hour drive.
I ve purchased 5 Hip-Hop records from this location now, and they are all amazing. 4 were brand new, and 1 was used, but is still in great shape! They have some of my favorite artists - Logic, Kendrick Lamar, Mac Miller, Biggie, Kanye. This record shop is the best in the state of CT!
Amazing selection of records, helpful staff, and just an essential piece of CT music culture. If you like music or records and live in CT you owe it to yourself to go here.
Redscroll is a cool little shop. Great vinyl selection and the prices are very reasonable. Their vinyl has protective sleeves and is in quality condition. They keep good hours which helps people who actually work for a living to shop for some vinyl. Too many record shops closing at 5 or 6, thankfully these guys stay open until 8pm 6 days a week. Now there's a business owner who's thinking. Musicians or people who dig music are night people.
Pretty decent selection of newer records escpecially for such a physically small space. The staff is really nice. If they don't have what you are looking for in stock they will order it. I listen to a lot of indie, punk, and diy music so that is what I am usually looking at and the selection is great for that. I am not sure about the selection of other genres.
Great spot for vinyl and some cds. Can usually order it if it's not in stock.
This is by far the best record store in Connecticut, possibly on the east coast. I always make in a point to stop here when I'm in the state.
Store has a cool vibe, friendly and very knowledgeable staff.
I found this store quite by accident a while back......very good selection overall....
One of the best, if not THE best, record store Ive ever been to. I wish I could spend a whole day going through their collections. There arent many record shops near where I live so I love going Redscroll, and its just great to see a small record store expand and grow. The new place is awesome, even the old shop will always have that "way too small, but communal" vibe. I highly, highly, highly recommend Redscroll Records.
Highly
recommended ...This is an excellent oasis of vinyl of nearly all genres... with the exception of some of the Sinatra / standards acts which seemed to be missing ...However I I saw great selections in country and western, blues, jazz, soul... much of it very affordable as much as 2 to 4 dollars for LP on some of the C&W titles. plenty of Hip Hop, R&B funk and "Weirdo" / Avante Garde... this is a neat and well-maintained store and Features plenty of new vinyl as well as classic ling list titles , all neatly bag and properly put in alphabetical order. Worth seeking out...
Great store, great staff, really great selection. I've lived in Connecticut for most of my life, but have moved to Nashville, TN, Boston, MA and Hamilton, Ontario Canada and have yet to see a store with the selection that these guys offer anywhere else. Solid Funk/Jazz/International, and Soundtrack selections here and everything else my weird musical tastes could want. If you're selling records these guys give good and reasonable offers on records when they buy. They're like the Sally's Apizza of records.
The best record shop in the area, Red Scroll bosts a great selection of new and used records with especially good metal, noise, and experimental sections. If you have been looking for something obscure, chances are you can find it in the "weirdo" section -- surprisingly and delightfully large for a shop of this size. You can audition any used vinyl on a player at the front.
Nice to go into a real record store again. Gentleman behind the desk was droop light very helpful informative which was refreshing. Only thing was they were out of the CDI was looking for but had already ordered it . I would say make the trip to read scroll records in Wallingford
Vast selection of new and hard to find vinyl, always in great shape and staff is super helpful
This place is great for both new and old albums, they have quite the collection. They don't always have everything you are looking for but they can usually get it in a couple of days. Sometimes their pricing can be a bit higher than expected but hey. My only real argument is really that their staff isn't the most welcoming. They tend to stand behind the counter waiting for you to come to them and when you do, you as though you are annoying them. I've gone in a few times and never even acknowledged. Nothing says "spend your money here" like being completely ignored. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy flipping through vinyl and being left alone while doing it as much as the next guy but a welcome nod when I walk in, and maybe a "thanks for coming in" while leaving would be nice. And if I've been in your establishment for over 15 minutes and am still empty handed there might be a problem, ask, maybe the staff knows where to get something the patron doesn't. Just saying.
Great store, I just wish they were open a little later on Friday and Saturday night.
This place is packed walk to walk with records. If you enjoy treasure hunting this is a place for you.
I have heard about red scroll records for a while but I hadn't gone there because I read that it specialized in hardcore, metal and such. And it certainly does, but I found out that it is so much more. Most of the front of the store is focused on their specialties but there's a whole room in the back that has a huge selection of rock, jazz, folk and other genres. I went there looking for one particular record and that I ended up buying five and could have bought five more. The prices were very very reasonable, more so than most other used record stores in the area. I will be going back again for sure.
A very decent selection of records and reasonable prices but the staff didn't strike me as music lovers or someone very passionate about their job. I will go back but I will set my expectations accordingly.
The new store is great! A ton of inventory on the floor with the same good people to help you out. The old store downtown was nice and quaint, but now it's much more comfortable to navigate.
Cute little record shop, lots to choose from. Great prices on used records. The girl at the counter wasn't very engaging and seemed bothered that I asked for a particular artist. Otherwise was a cool place to visit. The guy who rang us up was nice though.
Lots of unexpected treasures. Staffed by the expected judgemental record store clerks that are silently evaluating you, as a person, based on your purchases and tastes. I'm okay with that in a record store.
Appointment process during covid was smooth and safe. Honestly a better selection than any record shop in NYC.
They have a great selection of music. The staff is nice and knowledgeable.
The place to be if you are looking for vinyl records...
Helpful staff can be hard to get around with just a handful of people there.
A great place for new releases, used albums, and a lot of stuff you haven't discovered yet.
Do NOT bother selling your records here. The guy treated my Vinyls like absolute trash. He got his fingerprints on ALL my records that were in very good condition. Then after he defiled them all, he offered me a stupid low price on a stack of about 20 classic rock vinyls. I would highly advise against selling your records here. Other than that the store was nice and had a good selection
If you're looking for records, excellent. If you're looking for any kind of CDs, forget it. Their shelves are flooded with shlocky pop/rock and useless thirft store wall-liner garbage unless with some exceptions -- probably staged there to ID lame customers like myself looking for any kind of jazz, funk, R&B or fusion (which they had nothing to speak of). Though I really don't fit in here, it's an otherwise excellent little store for LP enthusiasts with an indie feel.
Extensive selection of new realeases and deep cuts. Covering any genre your looking fo., From the band you saw at a local show last week, hard to find classics or even the top billboard hits you'll find it here. Knowledgeable and helpful staff, I recommend you check out the staff picks, you'll find something new and enjoyable.
My favorite record store to go to. Has a library-esque feel to it and a pretty diverse selection of albums
I was so happy to find this place. While they concentrate mostly on vinyl--a format that doesn't interest me--I was able to find 8 CDs, new, that were too obscure to find anywhere else but online. They claimed to special in music off the beaten track and this was absolutely the case. Their entire selection is also available for purchase via discogs, online. Pretty cool.
Huge selection of new and used records. Definitely will be going back.
Dropped off a bunch of used records for store credit which I assumed would have netted me a few bucks towards the purchase of a new record. I was blown away with the amount they offered, and walked out with three new records instead, including two what I would consider rare-ish records that I was pumped they had in stock. I've visited three times and left impressed on each trip. Keep up the great work and the great selection, thanks much!
They have tons of cool music that doesn't get enough publicly.
This place has great hard to find stuff. The staff is helpful and are nice people. I drive a long distance to this store, It has the best underground, rock music, I never know what I'm gonna find but I always leave with a bunch of new stuff and always on vinyl. The back end of this shop has excellent quality pre-owned vinyl which I have no worries to buy as they must clean them cause they look new and play just as good. I spend hours here as it's packed with goodies.
A small little store with a lot to offer. Was completely blown away at the selection and how much of it there was, bound to be something for any taste. Employees are nice and prices are good too.
Edit Dec 2020: no longer a small store!!! Same great selection but now in a much larger space!
Best record store in CT, possibly the best on east coast of USA and I ve been collecting vinyl since 1976. Rick, Caryn and Josh have exquisite taste in music, fair trades and amazing selection. The best!!!
Nice to have a local record store. Beware if you have to return a defective record, there are no refunds, just exchanges. They seem to have a good selection of used records for such a small store and it is well organized. New selections are fairly limited. The reason I give it two stars is that the two times I've been in there, the staff doesn't seem friendly. Almost like they are doing you a favor. With this, I might just start buying online again even though I like to support a local business.
Eclectic shop ! Lots of unique things. Also stop in when were in Rehobeth.
Great selection of current releases and classic LP's
Redscroll is definitely my favorite record store and without question, the best in Connecticut. Looking for something hard to find? A limited new pressing or an old rarity... or an old favorite, they probably have it and if not, chances are you ll find something else you wanted or didn t know you needed. Their inventory is always interesting and is always changing.
Redscroll is a geat store with a cool atmosphere, full of music, culture, new things to check out. Their staff knows their music and about vinyl and are always helpful.
Highly recommended!
Best prices and selection you'll find in the area, extremely fair offers on trade ins, can't recommend enough.
Fantastic record store. Best in the area for hunting down vinyl.
You can always get what you want there and or order anything and they are always kind to you
Always the best selection and great staff, never leave without spending more than I want to because of how many wonderful finds they have!
ordered from the Discogs store, best people to deal with - A+++++
Great selection, great knowledgeable people. Would go again
Amazing Vinyl record store! Gems and rarities. Must visit and often.
Best dudes.. I've known Josh for years and everytime I stop in I'm always greeted w a what's up. Incredible selection of popular releases and oddball one-offs
A great place to browse and find your own kind of music.
Huge support for this store! They have underground Black Metal that s hard to find anywhere else. Very cool.
Always a great place to stop in 4 a good day of searching the bin
's for awesome records
Can't say enough good things about a small local business that fills such a cool niche market. If you love music, and records this is the place to be. If more businesses were like this the world would be a better place.
Loved it! From out of town and have two budding producers in the family. I'm just glad we don't have it at home because we'd go every day. Such great variety and selection!
Great selection and great prices. They don't give you that much money for trade ins but that's expected. The lady working wasn't that friendly but she wasn't rude either. Maybe she was just having a rough day.
My favorite record store. Very few record stores I ve been to have as much of a diverse selection as Redscroll. Everyone who works there is kind and helpful when asked, without being pushy or in your face. I always look forward to a trip there because I know it s going to be a positive experience.
There was a good selection. Good prices on used records. Well organized and easy to navigate. New records are the same price as places like Barnes and Noble. Cool atmosphere, would recommend.
Great place to find new and used records. A bit over priced for used but the slection alone makes up for it. I would rather pay more to support this local gem !!
Bought a brand new record, took it straight home to play it and it and it was warped. Tried to return it and was given a really bad attude by the guy who is always there (as usual) He immediately tried to blame me for the issue and when I called him on it he said he could just refuse the return, I gave him back the record and walked out, never going back.
Great shop with an awesome, always expanding selection of records from the classics to the latest and greatest!
There aren't a whole lot of record stores in Connecticuit, and the few that exist are generally 1 of 2 things.
1 - A record store that's picked over, where the condition of the covers or the records are marginal at best, the prices are ridiculously high given the condition, the selection is effectively things you would expect to find at a Goodwill or garage sale, and ran by a person who has little regard for posted hours.
2 - A record store that sells generally new records, more CD's than anything, fairly over priced, and never has anything you're looking for.
Then there's Red Scroll. These guys have an ever changing selection and a great mix of new records and used. Their turnover and organisation is incredible given it's size, and their attention to curation is incredible. They seem to specialize in independent artists, but, you're going to find the most popular releases from artists you thought you were the only one into.
I probably see 2 record stores a week, and I make sure to hit Red Scroll whenever I'm in Connecticut. It's one of the only record stores in the world that I can never walk out of without finding at least 1 record I've been looking for. Their selection is vast and their prices on new and used records is amazing given the area. When I say vast, I've never seen a larger Mondo/Deathwaltz, import vinyl, independent artist collection on the east coast. They rival anything you'll find in an Armageddon shop.
If you're truly into vinyl, you're doing yourself a huge disservice by not stopping here. You'll definitely find something you've been looking for. Also, Pro Tip: It may be overwhelming, but go in the backroom to see their used selection. You will find a ton of reasonably priced albums to fill in your collection in amazing condition! Check out their Discogs, maybe they have 2/3 of their selection listed. Stop in to see the rest. 4 Stars!
One of the best shops I've ever been to. Amazing, collection is curated and vast.
Such a great shop, easily the best spot in CT. The selection is insane, new or used most genres have at least double the selection of most shops. Prices are very fair and condition is always addressed accurately.
Snagged a few records. Nice time spent flipping through the collection.
Haven't been to the store yet but I can't stop ordering from them on Discogs. Insane selection, fast communication, excellent service. One day I hope to visit in person to do some digging
Awesome independent record store. Didn't make it more than 6 feet through the stacks before I had a $200+ bill.
Absolute gem of a records store. Easily one of the best on the entire east coast as far as new underground vinyl in all genres and can even beat shops in major metropolitan areas as far as selection of new vinyl. Used vinyl is great as well and priced fairly.
Updating my review. I purchased two albums I already had in March, and I specifically asked if I could exchange them if I already had them, and told no problem. Had to take a business trip for work and figured I'd exchange them when I got back. Well I got back a day before we entered lockdown for three months. Figured I'd wait until they reopened to exchange them, but they decided not to. So I emailed to ask for an exchange and was told the best they could do was buy them back at a reduced rate because 30 days passed. Well what should I have done during the lockdown and subsequent store closure? The albums are sealed with the price tags on them and are perfectly fine. I understand this is a tough time, and I hated to make the ask to begin with, but after buying $1k+ in vinyl and never returning or exchanging anything, the curt response and non-solution rubs me the wrong way. Now I'll have to throw them up on eBay or just gift them at eat $50. It's not like I was asking for a refund just to exchange and they would have two perfectly saleable albums in exchange. Because of this, I've discovered three other record stores, that in the future will get my purchases instead. Wishing Redscroll the best of luck in the future. You guys used to be my favorite. I discovered the joys of 180g vinyl buying several from you, but time to move on I guess. Too bad.
**Original Review**
Apparently my first review didn't make it through. Strange..
Anyway, this is an amazing record store! From new 180g+ to used and everything in between. Great Indie/Metal selection. However, I've spent over an hour in here in the past and still haven't had a chance to check out the Soul/Funk, Jazz etc. I'm sure it's just as amazing as the rest of the store. I've found some pretty obscure stuff in the front room. Need to check out the back room someday. I always manage to come in an hour and a half before closing. Not enough time. Could spend four hours plus.
The owners are super friendly and accommodating. I was given a tour my first time in. The records are all clearly priced unlike some of the competition where it's a surprise when you check out. Unlike some record stores it doesn't have that dusty, dirty, mildew smell that you get with some other stores.
And to top it off they were playing Camel when I was in last. Ahh...
Such gem of a record store. Highly recommend it! Especially if you're a music junkie!
Love this place. Great selection. I can browse for hours.
Been going here a few times a year since they opened many years ago, and I have yet to walk out without finding something great. Amazing selection.
great place and staff is always willing to help also great selection. Highly recommended !!!
It's not everyday that you find a great music store. If you're shopping for Vinyl, THIS IS YOUR PLACE! CD's and some tapes too. Huge selection, great staff who were very helpful. I was shopping for a big get well gift for a friend and left after finding a dozen classic albums which were well priced. So many get attached to streaming and 'immediate' music, not realizing the value of what previous generations brought. Great store and keep up the great work!!
One of the best record stores in the country. Huge selection of new and used records and a helpful staff.
Nice, patient employees. They went through all of our old records carefully, and gave us a fair price for our records. They have lots of local events posted on thr bulletin boards and seem to care about artists and creativity.
Friendly staff, wide selection. Been building up my collection recently and this place has been absolutely awesome. Was surprised to see the pressings I did for the albums I bought, some special edition stuff. Highly recommended! I'll be back soon enough
Knowledgeable staff. Huge selection of hard to find vinyl.
