I have been here twice just to make sure it wasn't an off expereince. The food is okay and reasonably priced.
It has a very hip vibe and I really like that.
Where this resturant loses points is service. No greeting, no smile, no kindness not even a rude schtick just an I dont care vibe. Like the staff is too bored with their jobs, tasks and customers to make them feel welcome.
I was angry and even complained to the cashier who listened and said and did nothing. I think the owners of this resturant would do better running a restaurant for the dead. I will never be back.

We were staying in NJ over the weekend, from Maryland. The breakfast sandwiches are sooo good! Very innovative flavor combinations. Coffee is simple and had a good roasted flavor. Great service and good prices.
Will definitely stop by for more food on our next trip!

The red eye makes the world go round.

The red eye makes the world go round.
Their sandwiches are fresh and complex, the deserts are simple but tasty, and they have wonderful baristas who are great to be around.

Whether you're doing work or looking for a lovely place to sit with your friends, the Red Eye is a cozy place to be.

Excellent food, service and location. Love the outdoor seating

Edit: food not so great anymore, maybe they got a new chef? Also service is poorer, totally screwed up the order and after all food was too spicy and tasteless at the same time, disappointed...

As an alternative to Raymond's Since we already went there a few days before for breakfast, I took my daughter while she was visiting and we both had an amazing breakfast of eggs and kale, potatoes and hallah bread toast. The coffee was amazingly tasty and we both give the Red Eye both thumbs up. When I mentioned this to our host, he smiled and offered to top off my last bit of coffee to take with me and put it in a takeaway cup ! Just an extra special and awesome kindness. Great atmosphere and great quality. Thank you !

Food was delicious. Staff was very friendly. They have a full coffee bar & you can get what you want while you wait so that was good. On top of that you can bring your own drinks & save money that way. I will definitely go back

Unfriendly staff!!!

Unfriendly staff!!!

Loved coming to this place until we were unwelcomed one Monday afternoon, by not only a worker, but a patron as well. If i am not mistaken, i believe kids are welcomed here, although we were treated as the opposite. I normally come here with my fiance in the evenings, but this day was different, we brought his sister and niece (2 years old), and just wanted to grab a quick coffee, it was 3:45 in the afternoon, they close at 5:00. Instantly we were welcomed by the "boy" at the register when i walked in (Monday, Jan. 18 to be specific) (i refer to him as that because that was the way he acted) with him saying we are not serving food. I then replied saying that we were just here for coffee and to sit for 10 mins. He then tells us it's going to be a 25 min. wait (on a Monday at 3:45?!?! OK!), mind you an older lady was just getting up, and there would be space for us 4. My niece was not running around or causing any disturbance, but i could tell the "boy" was annoyed that we were there. There was a spare table (clean) next to the other table, where my fiance took my niece to just sit, and the "boy" then proceeds to mutter under his breathe (to the customer mind you) that "these f*****g people are deaf and don't listen", because he supposedly needed to clean a clean table! Of course my sister in law heard every word he was telling the customer. Oh and of course the customer was laughing about it. This is any way to treat paying customers at your store?!?! This was uncalled for, and of course my sister in law told him off, and we walked out. I am very disgusted and disappointed as this was one of my favorite places for coffee, and to be treated that way, as other patrons were enjoying their meals was embarrassing! But to top it off, the "boy" engaged with the customer, making a spectacle out of nothing. We just wanted some coffee and to sit for 15 mins. He acted like we came in there at 5:00 when it was time to close.

Word of advice to the owner, train your employees on customer service!

I live close by, so I go there regularly, the "dirty Chi - hot" is definitely one of their best drinks . It is nice to sit outside in the summer. It could get busy and not easy to get a seat, food menu is very healthy. Their Omelets are really good.

I have always loved red eye abut I haven t been to the restaurant in a while. I was looking forward to my first meal at redeye in over 2 years. I ordered a summer omelet that consists of tomato ricotta and basil replacing the ricotta cheese w goat cheese. When I got home I was completely disappointed to have an omelette w just goat cheese. I called the restaurant and asked why I had received a goat cheese omelette. His response was the cook said it was too early to make a summer omelette so I asked them to make an omelette w goat cheese. I am baffled as to why they didn t call to tell me the omelette couldn t be made. The crazy Part is I paid $10 for this special omelette when a regular omelette is $8. I would be cautious when placing an order s over the phone.

A favorite cafe in town where we bring our friends visiting from the city and elsewhere, everyone has always loved what they ordered. Great place for kids as they have a wall of books in the back, and great for dining outside on their patio during the warmer months.

EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED with their customer service and how dismissive the staff was about my order. I ordered to go (due to the 45min wait to be seated) and was told it would be ready in 20 minutes. 20 minutes in, I went to check but was rudely told to wait and had no time to check on my order. Thinking it would be worth the wait for their food, I went across to the Montclair Bread Company for a scrumptious Nutella donut. After spending a good 15 minutes on the donut, I returned again to this cafe to pick up my order. The same bald guy dismissively said it would another 5 minutes. Guess what? 10 minutes later, they told me they messed up the order- so NO food and a complete ridiculous waste of my time. ALL this ping pong game could have been easily avoided if he NICELY checked on my order the first time. Not only did they loose me as a customer but if their staff feels those who take out are not worth their while then shame on them. A customer is a customer no matter how big or small the order. IF you want to go hungry, be mistreated and waste your time here, then this IS the place to be. The good news is I saved $50 on lunch here. I would suggest to check out The Corner on Walnut St. instead of this place. DISAPPOINTED.

Let's start with the bad; the food can be amazing but the wait (at times) seems to add a little bitterness while I'm eating.

On the very plus side the espresso is amazing, do you know what's better than a double shot? Six shots! Do it!

Cool vibe, great food! Fat Elvis sandwich is awesome & the Coconut Grits - delightful! Have only gone for breakfast & lunch and have yet to try more items on the menu. Organic, health conscious food choices & even healthy twists on staple foods. Definitely worth trying out.

Great coffee! My only complaint is that the same coffee is a different price every time I go. It can be $2,$2.50, or $3 depending on who is making the coffee. It s hard to bring the right amount of cash since the prices vary so much.

I love this restaurant the food is great there the only thing about it is you have to wait a long time to get in and the tables are very small so if you go in a party of two it's easier but if you go with more than 3 people it's really tough to get a table.

Really long wait for food. Almost one hour wait after order and we left before food arrived because one of us had an appointment. No update from the kitchen or wait staff at any point. When we told the manager that we've been waiting almost an hour, she just shrugged and said, "Well, Saturday is our busiest day." Not exactly a customer-friendly response. She did offer to waive our drink charge. Not planning on returning anytime soon.

Had the Huevos Rancheros- fried eggs with pico de Gallo, cheddar cheese, chorizo, black beans, salsa ranchero, corn tortillas and it was great! The gentleman had the classic French toast (you can never go wrong with French toast). Great start to the day. Outdoor seating was right up my alley and my waiter was quite polite.
