Nice day out going back and forth, food at the cafes very good, facilities very good, makes an easier day with the kids. Nice walks in easy reach for those without small children
Excellent visited many times and they also accept tesco vouchers
Over rated!!
If service limited, then that should be reflected in the price!!
Had a lovely day out with my son & his family. The kids loved the train & can't wait to come back.
First time myself and my young children have been it was amazing a lovely day out we cant wait to go again
It's a good day out. There is plenty to do beside the railway ride. All the staff are very helpful and friendly. Ours was a gift day with a cream tea. The food was delicious and very fresh. We had to make subtle changes but this wasn't a problem and very well done. Would like to go there again to explore the area more.
The La Ratty, it's a small train that runs down into Eskdale Valley, bit rattley but very enjoyable ride plus nice cafe at Dale garth, the last stop.
Amazing railway experience perfect for the little ones.
Lovely 40 minute diesel/steam journey each way with great scenery and views. All staff from ticket office to cafes and train operators extremely friendly.
A wonderful day out! Adults and children alike were enthralled and enchanted by the whole experience. We had a marvellous family day. The staff were unfailingly helpful, polite and informative. Great!
Thought it was a little overpriced, until we set off and it was worth the money. (compared to a local steam railway) but it was worth it, a really long train ride with lots of stops and you can get off and go and explore if you wish. The food in the cafe was lovely aswell.
We love the La'al Ratty and go numerous times per year. It's a great family day out, especially in autumn and winter when it's quieter.
Excellent little place, can't complain. Whether its for learning on the history of the Lake District or taking in the incredible scenery, you can't go wrong.
Lovely train ride through beautiful countryside. Great cafe at Dalegarth. Very helpful member of staff told us we could buy car park ticket with train tickets as we didn't have enough change.
Lovely little steam train ride wonderful views all the staff were very friendly and you get to see the engine close up as it turns on the turntable
We are regular visitors, first visit during Covid-19 restrictions. Well managed, clearly signed for social distancing, carriages thoroughly sanitised after each trip. We felt safe, enjoyable trip and as usual staff and volunteers were lovely.
A pleasant way to spend an hour . Nice cafe . Short stroll from Ravenglass .
Great tour for family members of all ages. You can travel with any weather.
Great experience around.
Staff very polite and knowledgeable,
Great museum, cafe and gift shop.
Once on the train very enjoyable with great views and wonderful engins pulling them, the only drawback is the wooden seats in the carriages rather hard could do with a cushion.
A very good experience riding on the trains helpful staff. Very good cafe and shop
Had a fantastic day with this railway and the facilities at each end
Great day out. Got this trip as part of birthday present. With cream tea at the top. Weather was great. Worth visiting for all train enthusiasts.
One of the most scenic and picturesque seven mile stretches of railway you can take. Beautiful, historic, and fun for children too.
Lovely train drive and the food at the cafe was lovely. My children are still talking about going on train now.
Wonderful little railway with a couple of nice pubs at the end
Great little railway, delights adults and kids alike
Fabulous day out riding through the countryside behind a mini steam locomotive on a beautiful sunny day. Last did this trip nearly 20 years ago and its even better than I remembered. We had day on the Ullswater steamers and on the ticket it More
We travelled on an extremely wet day. Lady in ticket office at Dalegarth was extremely helpful sorting out tickets, guard at Ravenglass again very helpful finding us a seat to return on an earlier train. Very pleasurable experience.
Fantastic day out a must for anyone young and old great trip out
Brilliant day out on the laal ratty! My 3 year old daughter absolutely loved it, despite the rain! A must do in West Cumbria!
Lovely ride through beautiful countryside. The cafe is wonderful, with scrummy cakes and coffee.
Enjoyable ride on the steam train then there's the cafe
Love the train ride, cafe at both ends and beautiful views
It has been a long time since we have been here with our children, perhaps some 15-20 years, found the staff friendly, food in the eateries good and value for money but now seems very commercialised - will bring our Grand children as all children should visit La'al Ratty!
Free entry into the museum, quiet, beautiful and sell a good cuppa at the cafe.
Spent Boxing day visiting the Ravenglass railway and it was brilliant. The trip up the line was by steam train. We sat on open carriages (our choice) which was magical, watching the scenery pass in a haze of smoke. We stopped off to have a bowl of soup and hot crusty bread before returning to Ravenglass. A wonderful trip and we are determined to do the trip again in the spring.
Excellent for a family ride out. Lovely people and trains, lovely scenery etc. Try to get to sit in the open top carriages as the journey is so much more beautiful. Our boys thoroughly enjoyed the day as did we. Definitely worth a visit and the money. Parking should be free but sadly isn't but that's the lakes for you.
After a trip out on the steam train we returned to the gift shop to get some souvenirs. The toilets station were clean and tidy. Oh and the hot chocolate from the cafe was delicious.
The railway itself is lovely, amazing scenery, lovely locomotives, friendly staff, and the museum although not quite as good as what it was years ago it s still really good. The only thing that I find really sad is that the railway has decided to withdraw the lovely characterful coaches in favour of new very soulless and toy like looking new ones because apparently people aren t happy with the old(proper) ones, if you want loads of space, bright modern interiors etc then go on a modern standard gauge railway, you come to an old steam/heritage railway you can t expect modern standards, I will be very upset to see the proper coaches replaced by the new ones
A great day out. Super trip, luckily weather great too.
Excellent food in cafe.
We worth a visit the only down side is a car park charge
Brilliant day out. Had a bite to eat in Eskdale station and the food lively
Brilliant everyone must go a brilliant day out xxxx
You have to be a mega railway enthusiast to really enjoy this. The scenery is nice and so are the two pubs at the end of the line!
The train ride takes you along beautiful scenery, full journey Ravenglass to Eskdale just long/short enough for our 2 1/2 year old to keep interested, she loved it.
Great place to visit friendly staff, good train journey places to eat at both ends of line and dog friendly.
I cannot fault our visit to the Ravenglass and Eskdale. The trains run fairly frequently (depending on the time of year). Staff and volunteers are incredibly helpful (and are clearly passionate about their involvement). Stations and stops are great - varied and accessible. And the route is fascinating and enchanting - wonderful and varied views. You can hop on and off of a 'day rover' type ticket and there a plenty of varied walks from most of the stations and halts.
Really good day out for any age
Great scenery and good value for money
Couple of good pubs at dalegarth end of line doing excellent food
Brilliant views, staff were mostly very friendly, with someone giving me and my mum a tour around the engine sheds. Great scenery and nice trains
Well, this is absolutely amazing. Depending on time of departure the train is diesel or steam - both awesome!
Fab day train ride and afternoon tea, staff really friendly
Great little train ride with a cafe and pub at the end!!
Great quaint little steam railway. Very reasonably priced.
Great way to spend an afternoon and see the Cumbrian countryside
We booked the railway on a whim whilst my partner and I were off work and I am so glad we did. The staff are fantastic, so helpful upon booking and when we arrived at the wrong station (totally my fault) they amended the journey without and fussy.
The journey on the steam train so smooth and took in some lovely scenery. At Ravenglass Station we took the stroll up to Muncaster Castle.
We will visit again in the Summer and make a full day off it.
Thank you Catherine and Jacky for amazing service.
Lovely scenery just about the right length of journey.
+ 50% off sister attraction Ullswater steamers or vice versa .
Fantastic day out with friendly people especially Jeff at Ravenglass Station
Great place for families, walkers and rail enthusiasts
