Great little half day out, but pricey all things considered.

The steamers visit a few stations throughout the countryside and the smaller stations along the way don't actually have much to do there. There is a also a diesel locomotive and you are issued with a timetable which outlines which times you can travel by steam and when you will be powered by the diesel engine. The best way to enjoy the rail is to get on for the 7 mile run to the final stop. There is a waterfall only 15 minutes walk from there and it is signposted and easy to find. There is also a cafe at this station which is lovely and in your map that you are given on entry there is a voucher for free cake with a coffee purchase.

Lots of infrastructure improvements since our last visit quite a few years ago. New stations, an excellent museum including a local community section dealt with the Roman history of the area. New restaurants serving lovely food. Shame the new observation car is not in use yet, the forerunner of new rolling stock I believe.

You've got to love the Ratty (la'al ratty). It's a great day out. Museum, shop, walks, cafe, ice cream, the seaside, the mountains, some great pubs and of course - riding on the Ratty.

There is a great history to this railway (it has played about 40 years worth of my history too) and a very dedicated band of (mostly) volunteers keeping it not only going, but growing.

40+ minutes each way with a cafe and picnic spots at both ends. Open air and indoor carriages available. Book online the day before for discounts on the all day ticket. Have a great time.

.One of the jewels in the crown that is the Lake District and very early on the tourist map, having been rescued from extinction back in the 1960's.

Affectionately known locally as the "Ratty" for reasons which have got lost in time, this delightful little railway transports you up a delightful valley with spectacular scenery. Revel in the Joy's of hard working steam engines as you ride through spectacular scenery towards Scafell. Thoroughly recommended

Lovely family day out, friendly staff, beautifully kept and stunning scenery. We travelled from Ravenglass to eskdale and with young children we were satisfied with the little park and a coffee before heading back.

As 15" tracks go this is a great 7 mile journey with request stops for walking if desired. The steam trains are great fun with a whiff of sulphur and volumes of steam. Both ends of this trip have merit not least the local pubs if you want more than the onsite cafe. The rail museum at Ravenglass is well worth a walk around.

With the new museum at Ravenglass you really can make this a day out whatever the weather! It's actually a good price for the length of time you're on the train and a fantastic way to get into some real "Lake District scenery" without driving! The best experience is with the steam trains but even the diesels make for an entertaining journey with all the scenery and wildlife to spot.

Best part of our trip to the Lake District. Rained none stop but loved the dramatic scenery, all staff on the railway polite and knowledgeable and the cakes and drinks at the final stop were excellent.

Had a fab time again riding from Delgarth to Ravenglass. Sadly, we couldn't alight at different stops as we have in the past. Amazing views, beautiful weather and clean open air carriage. Had to pre-book date, time and carriage.

How lovely? This is such a fab day out! If you are in the area then its worth the trip. Beautiful scenery and the trains are so well looked after. Little shops at the stations so you can stop and have a wander around, grab a drink or a bite to eat, grab a postcard then head back. Would do it again!!
