Fabulous hotel. Close to Durham Newcastle and Sunderland but still has a "country" feel. It has many different rooms with individual character. Staff are friendly, courteous and professional - really going above and beyond to help. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Had a rib eye steak last night and had to send it back and I was not the only one who complained about the steaks. Unable to chew as full of gristle and fat, 10oz for over 23.oo was a disgrace as only able to eat approx 4oz of the meat very poor quality but the waiter wheve very good and provide good customer care. Marks for food 4 out of 10 therefore you need to raise your game otherwise your loyal customers will look elsewhere.

Not even close to a 4 star. Rooms in the older section seriously dated and to be avoided at all costs. Unfortunately not able to upgrade if you have a pet but with no decent WiFi , no aircon or heating those older rooms should surely be dropped or at least it makes sense to reduce the steep room rates as they can't expect to still be able to command the steep room rates. The only reason it gets two stars is the excellent golf course which you can walk around.

Went for carvery at 2pm bank holiday Monday. Food ok but had to wait a long time at bar and .partner ordered vegetarian gravy but it never arrived and chef used meat carving nice to pick up her Yorkshire pudding despite knowing she was vegetarian.

Food in the carvery was excellent, lots of choice of main meals, vegetables and salad, could not fault a thing. Staff were very professional keeping to all the social distancing and hygiene rules. Would definitely return.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. The hotel is very good, the room was quite large for a standard with plenty of space for our dog. The room looked as though it has been recently refurbished. The bath was huge with plenty of More

The 5* Review WAS based on the Carvery..It's an excellent carvery at reasonable price & even more so if you go for the 3pm -6 pm deal which gets you a dessert.. UPFDATE..January 20th. 2020..This received a 1* for Food Rating..."The four-star hotel, in Carrville, County Durham, has seven kitchens across the premises which provide food for several different restaurants including The Rib Room, Fusion, Pemberton s Carvery and The Clubhouse. Inspectors say major improvement is necessary and have raised issue with food safety and the cleanliness and condition of facilities at the hotel.".....( Sunderland Echo )---.VERY disappointed as I gave this a 5 * review last September but feel hurt & cheated after reading this report in the local paper after Food Standards visited the place..

It's beautiful. It looks like an actual castle and the land around it is gorgeous. Really easy to get to and the staff were lovely. Only went for a job interview but would definitely go to spend the night.

Excellent hotel with lovely friendly staff and a luxury feel. Spa facilities are wonderful but be aware that you need to upgrade to a spa pass for the outdoor area and hydrotherapy pool. Breakfast is buffet style and there is a TONNE to choose from including three types of sausages and loads of fruit!

Just stayed here for my birthday as a surprise. We got a free upgrade and even a birthday card from the hotel which is extremely kind. The spa here is incredible. It has a large swimming pool, 4 types of sauna and hydro pod (large jacuzzi) and outdoor pool. It was super relaxing and a great day! We had evening meal at the Rib Room which was nice. Quite expensive and the lobster I got on my surf n turf burger was minuscule but this didnt detract from my overall stay. Would love to go back and use the spa facilities again.

Spent New Years eve with my family and friends from Barcelona, the Dinner and entertainment in the evening to celebrate New Year was fantastic. Congratulations to all the Staff who were working on the evening! You were all excellent.
