It s great to see the growth of Asian Indian history in records! There s lots of information for future researchers to unpack.
I was researching death records for a geneaology project I am working on and found the staff to be very helpful and professional. They patiently responded to my specific data queries and my general questions about leveraging their services more efficiently and even explained how I could access the reading room with my 9 year old granddaughter in tow. This was my first visit, but I know it won't be my last.
Very helpful people. My advice is to come early because research often takes longer than you expect. No food, drinks or cell phones allowed.
Great place. Don't forget to bring your digital copy to take pictures of the material.
Very cool tour! So much information is stored here!
I visited for the first time to look at microfilm of old Edmonton Journal newspapers from the 1970s. Cool building and very kind and helpful people that work there. Very valuable resource to have in Edmonton, I look forward to visiting again!
Terrific plan to explore history. Staff is most helpful
A great source of information. While the archives may seem intimidating, the friendly,, knowledgeable archivists are always delighted to help. Hard copies, microfilm, photographs, you name it. It's all pretty much free. There are small fees for copies and any research they do on your behalf but doing the actual work yourself can be fun and informative.
Never thought I'd visit this place for any reason, but when I needed some info, their service was EXCELLENT
One day the provincial archives of Alberta will have a story of its own to share with our future generations to come to end in the History book s forever in Alberta Canada .
Extremely knowledgeable staff help all visitors to feel welcome and secure while helping them search the extensive variety of records for information. Whether a researcher, historian, genealogist, or curious visitor, you are welcome to come and search the archives. Before you go, check out the gift shop: it's the only one in Alberta selling premium archival storage products and solutions to the public! :)
The Provincial Archives of Alberta is a great place to learn about Alberta's heritage, culture and special place in Canada! :)
Great place to research homestead records! Helpful staff in a beautiful setting.
We were doing some genealogy research while on a trip to Edmonton. The Archives were excellent and the staff were massively helpful. I know people try to get away with online only but some times you need to go to the source. Holding a (original) piece of paper signed by your Great Great Grandfather is an experience all by itself.
I'm from Grande Prairie and have never been to this facility. However I'm told that this might be where I can find old archives of CFRN TV back in the early days....is there any CFRN history located here at all? Just curious for when I come to Edmonton next time :)
Not what I expected, but a good place to look history.
The Provincial Archives of Alberta have the only newsprint conservator in the entire province. They're a great resource if you need to preserve documents or images.
Also, a great local research resource.
I obtained death records for my grandmother and my aunt for $2.20. They passed away in 1930 and 1923.
Really helpful staff. Research area is light-filled and comfortable, with roomy desks and even a cushioned window seat. Pleasure to work in! Nice selection in gift store for people interested in history.
So much history and documentation. Had a fun research date with my wife here.
Had a tour and it was fabulous! Thank you Tom for all the information.
I was working on some equipment in the building as a sub contractor but when asking for help everyone was super nice and helpful
Great resource that is open to all Albertan's. Library staff are very helpful in locating and retrieving materials you wish to view.
Photocopies are relatively cheap but you can save copies to a thumb drive for free.
Great place to acquaint yourself with the history of Alberta.
Excellent knowledgeable staff and wide variety of historical information not found any other place including non-digitalized books and documents.
Was there to do some contract work. However with that I was able to see the back area...it's a clean as the public area. Very nice professional staff there too....and the washrooms are Immaculate. Free public and handicap parking with a drive up so you can drop off those who would find it hard to walk.
Had no idea we had resources like this to utilize. Highly recommend taking a trip to check out Alberta history.
I had the opportunity to ask Shannon questions while she was at the desk. It was so great to have someone so knowledgeable who was able to provide me with what I needed and to know so much. Shannon also took us on our tour of the facility. It's amazing how much she retains and to provide so much valuable information and the best customer service. I have visited the Archives a few more times and each and every time I ask a question about something Shannon goes out of her way to explain this to me. Our City is so fortunate to have someone so dedicated to providing high quality customer service. Thank you for always listening and helping.
We're very lucky in this province to have such an excellent archives. Absolutely fantastic resource for anyone who wants to explore the history of Alberta. Popular with genealogists but is a boon to anybody interested in history.
