Their dessert(the Motown Twist or Twister) is not just good tasting, but it's the best that I ever had. Really, there is no other dessert that taste better. And that goes for the many different types of cake, cookies, candy bars, milk shakes, and etc. that I've indulged in. So I can give Detroit Ice no better compliment than that, but their product does have a fault to it which is they melt too fast. So hurry up & eat the top half of one before some spills on the ground, or on you, or on the table.

Very good refreshing ice treat.. Not slush...not ice cream...but delicious none the less...be careful not get hooked on a flavor...they're always adding something new. Prices are okay...they also have mouthwatering popcorn...almost as delicious as Garretts...right here at home! They also have ice cream and other tasty treats. Staff pretty knowledgeable and patient...during the season...they are sometimes at Franklin cider mill. Don't forget to ask for samples before finishing

I am absolutely in love with this place however customer service is getting worst. Tonight I rushed my entire family over at the end of our family reunion just so they could get a taste because they are not from the city. The employee by the name Christian was very rude I m not sure if it was because it was an hour before close time but her behavior was unexceptionable. The cashier ask another worker to get a pretzel ready and she yelled over the worker and said we are out of pretzel. The worker looked shock and said oh ok. Right in my face as if I was not right there. The manger on staff said they did and she even told him no we don t. I can t believe someone would behave like that. I m too out done.

Delicious treats with a huge variety of flavours! Similar to a Rita's, but better. Definitely worth a visit, best on a warm day but good any time of year!

I fell in love with this establishment since the moment I walked in. much Alvin truly created a gem. The staff, the shop itself, the staff, and the icecream are amazing. I loved their mint ice cream and their marshmallow treat and the work this business does for the community. I can't wait to come back here and try their hot chocolate.

The flavors are varied but in the end the taste ends like something synthetic :(

Not quite as good as Rita's but when there's no Rita's around, Detroit Water Ice Factory satisfies in a pinch. A negative is that only one flavor has fruit bits and pieces and it's a little pricey.

Went here with a friend and the staff were nice. The place was clean and my friend and I got the mint chocolate chip. I personally didn't like it that much but my friend liked it. Would go again, just would get something different.

First run, will review more in the future in hopes of improvement...

Service set a low bar, even for Detroit. As we walked into a storefront with painfully loud music, the server greeted me but not my girl. And proceeded to give me no explanation as to what I was getting or how the process worked. Basically I got a cup full of topping... When I wanted ice cream. Luckily she got soft serve so after we left together we made a delicious dessert. #relationshipgoals...

I'm looking forward to going back to this place because I have heard good things and I know that Mitch Albom is doing good work, but the staff is really dragging this location down.

Try it, hopefully you have better luck!

I was not expecting this place to be as good as it was! I really thought the water ice would be like a slushie but it's much creamier and way more delicious. The guy at the counter let me try a few flavors and gave me his personal recommendations. I loved the strawberry lemonade flavor I tried and so did my friends! If I ever end up in Detroit again I'll try my best to come here another time!

This place is amazing. Definitely my new spot. Unique desert and friendly staff.

Treats are different than those you can find elsewhere. It's less frozen than Italian ice, smoother than a snow cone. Get the ice with the real cherries in it--absolutely the best quality and so good for you!

Motown Mash is my favorite. Staff has always been friendly. One staff member gave a little boy a water ice on him because of his politeness and mannerism when he was ordering and attempting paying by himself. Nice little spot.

Tried something new in downtown Detroit in search of the perfect slush. Nice clean friendly atmosphere, and the slush was okay.

Stick to the flavors you like, if you like mint chocolate chip it will taste like it but remember it's not ice cream. This pic is from the "pop up location" in Franklin, MI at the Franklin Cider Mill. Proceeds benefit local nonprofits.

This place is so yummy! I go every time I m in Detroit even if it s cold! I like to get the blue raspberry and strawberry ice blended with soft serve. The only other place I ve had this type of frozen ice is in Hawaii! Don t miss out!

This place us great on a hot summer's day. The interior of this place is quite small but their outdoor seating is great! The woman at the counter was really friendly and offered samples right away.

I ended up getting the Mango and Strawberry lemonade (ice?). The smallest portion they offer is really generous and its quite filling in my opinon. The flavors are all full of sugar so if you are looking for something light, this isn't it. They do soft serve mixed with the Ice and all sorts of other combinations.

Overall, I liked it and will return especially on those extremely hot days! This a good alternative if you're not an ice cream fan!

Great concept, fun place ....but. The popcorn wasn't as tasty as I thought it was going to be and the ice treats were kinda well tasteless but pretty to look at.. The place is full of life and the staff is awesome wish the treats met the standards of everything else. I'll return only because it goes to charity.

Interesting alternative to ice cream. Clean establishment and kind staff. Big servings, so it is well worth the price.

I got cotton candy flavored with ice cream on top! It was good, only put a lower star because they waited until my stuff was made to ring me up. I told her I got a large, the most expensive one, and she pulls out a tiny cup and asks if that was the size. Does that look like a large? I said the bigger one and she just stared at me until someone else handed me my ice then it took her another 5 minutes to ring it up after she could see what I got. No wonder there was a line at almost 9 at night midweek. I m not complaining but if you don t know how to get customers through smoothly than you don t get 5 stars.

The STAFF is PROFESSIONAL and KIND, things we don't see in most young people. But this is worth the trip Downtown. (A+)

Go strawberry lemonade with soft serve for a strawberry shortcake flavor. Orange and soft serve for an orange creamsicle.

It's not ice cream, but tasty still. If I wasn't on a manhunt for (nonexistent) ice cream downtown I probably would've came here instead for the popcorn which smelled delicious!

This was so good. Employees there were really nice and did a great job with recommendations. A little pricey but definitely a unique treat. Fully recommend getting a Motown twist!

You've got to try the stuff at Detroit Water Ice Factory. It's not ice cream (though they have soft serve if that's your thing), it's not gelato, or italian ice. Sort of like a more solid version of an icee is all I could come up with. Just go try it. Besides the tasty water ice, 100% of the profits go to nonprofit S.A.Y. Detroit. That's a winner!

Great new place to visit in downtown Detroit! Customer service is amazing and always a treat.

Our family walked from the Tigers game to the shop. Such friendly staff and the Morown Mash is phenomenal!! When we learned all profit goes to charity, we were hooked. Tip-when ordering Motown Mash, get the smallest size available. It is rich.

Great water ice (it's like Italian ice with soft serve)...and supports a great cause -- SAYDetroit.

Ice water it's not our first experience we have had polish ice I am happy to report that this is so very close to polish ice that I'm satisfied to have it as a replacement please visit this establishment on a hot day on a cold day mix 3 flavors

Visted here last year for the first time, completely out of curiosity- turned out to be a super great choice! I've never had anything like this before, it's like a cross between slushie and ice-cream! It's smooth, chilly, and yummy for those hot summer days!

This was our first and last visit. The place was a mess with boxes, cardboard and pallets strewn about. The clerk was berating the customer in front of us when he asked a question. He turned to m eand said he hasn't felt that way since high school. I came to try the rice pudding but they didn't have any. Bad customer service and a place that was a mess. Left a bad taste in my mouth and I won't be back.

So many different flavors of Gelato and theyre all good. They have some hot eats too.

My family moved to Florida two years ago so it was our first time back in Detroit. We loved the revitalization and the Detroit water ice factory was a highlight

This place was pretty cool! I got the Motown Swirl, which is a layer of ice cream on the bottom, then a layer flavored ice, and topped of with more soft serve ice cream. The deserts were pretty expensive (which makes sense considering it's location) and the actual frozen ice wasn't very flavorful. The addition of soft serve definitely makes it taste better!
