This place has a collection of Polynesian cultures...

This place has a collection of Polynesian cultures, it is almost like a theme park which is good entertainment for families. Unfortunately a lot of the cultures are lost, or whatever they displayed was a very small subset of it. I would expect that a cultural centre would provide info on the culture, like tribes, marriage ceremonies, tattoos etc. One thing that was missing which I thought should be there was shell money - this was huge in the Pacific.

As a cultural centre it's ran more like a theme park and mainly for entertainment instead. There is a free bus that will take you to visit their Mormon temple which is pretty grand and while you are there there are sisters that will chat to you and give you more info on the church of you are interested. In that bus tour they also takes about the founder's vision to preserve the Polynesian culture, maybe that was why I expect to see real info here. Maybe i should change my expectations a bit or they should change their name to something else less formal and not call it a cultural centre.

The luau is good, the show Ha! is pretty good.

From the entertainment point of view, 4 stars it's pretty well run. From a cultural centre point of view, 1-2 stars.

This place is absolutely amazing. I would definitely suggest getting there right when it opens. It just seems like too much to do in such a little amount of time. Every island offers different classes, activities, and shows. Such an interesting set of things to learn about. The show at 730 is must and you will not be disappointed.

Somehow captures the history of ancient Polynesian cultures without feeling put on or hokey. It's an absolute must-visit if you are on Oahu. The end show, He Breath of Life, is an incredibly high quality show that itself makes any ticket price worth it.

Make sure to come early. The park has about 10 islands, and every half hour, a few of the islands have live shows (dancing, singing, local traditions), and the latest are at 5PM, so you need to plan a bit to see everything. Overall, the park is really well organized, clean, and orchestrated almost like a fun park (which may put off some).

An excellent day long adventure learning about all of the different peoples who settled Polynesia. The night show is a must see, the luau was pretty good. The only thing I didn't like was how they trick you into getting on a bus to see the sites. It ends up taking you to the Mormon Temple where there is lots of young people from BYU encouraging you to join. There was also a creepy old guy who was taking video and pictures of everyone when they came off the bus. This made many of us feel incredibly uncomfortable.

Super cool place. Wish the kids activities had been slightly more organized. We came with a 3 and 6 yr old. They loved making the fish in the weaving hut but there weren't really any other actual kid activities for little kids.

The grounds are beautiful and the performers are talented. I did not know this was connected to the LDS church. I am not LDS and I am not anti LDS. I will reiterate, I am not anti churches or religions. I just didnt know what I was getting into. The performances felt like grade school presentations at times and the overall vibe of the place is very conservative. The "luau" is not a luau. It is a stadium seating buffet with a weird performance while you eat. They do serve hundreds to thousands of people very efficiently but it is a mediocre buffet. The show during the buffet was awful. Partly due to the style of the performance and partly because It feels like the culture is on display in a LDS interpretation of the culture. The price for the food/luau is completely overpriced. I would not recommend this to any friend or family member that is not part of the church. It was the lowest part of my trip to the island. I do want to say that the student performers do a good job. Watching a Haka was great and there are things to take away from this place. I would just never go back. And a side note to those reading this it is a dry venue due to the churches stance on alcohol. Not a big deal, but I wish would have known some of these facts before paying $150 for the evening.

Very welcoming staff, who are almost all students at the nearby university. All the cultures represented have their own sections. The performances in each area are really funny and engaging. There are activities in each area as well. A good chunk of the money you spend on visiting, goes to paying for the students to attend school.

The caliber of the talent was amazing. Highly recommend the special ambassador package with a private tour guide for the day and front row seats for the shows. It MADE our experience. The performances were completely incredible, and the Breath of Life evening show is on par with Vegas and Broadway shows I ve seen.

Great experience. Allow one FULL day or even two days to get through it all. We paid extra for the Super Ambassador VIP package which seemed worth it to get better seating at each of the shows, private tour guide and dinner. Educational and fun.

Absolutely amazing.

Absolutely amazing.
The islands are very entertaining, each one has their own program or activities, nearly all of them are very entertaining.
If you have to prioritize however, Aotearoa, Tonga, and Samoa were probably the most enjoyable for us.
The breath of Life show was also incredible and definitely worth it.
The only annoying thing was the bus tour not making it clear ahead of time that it is only a quick drive by the nearby university and a stop at the Mormon Church.

It was totally worth the money. Took the guided tour with Ammon the guide and he was very funny and informative. The shows were fun to watch and the entire parks staff were friendly. I recommend the tour guide versus just wondering around. The Hale Olaha laua in the evening topped it off!

Range of quality souvenirs and beautiful art, good selection of food too. Was really impressed with the layout and cultural info on not just Hawaii but wider Polynesia. The ukulele exhibit is pretty cool too and I really liked the art in that building.

Amazing place to visit! All the different villages and the activities in each one were so much fun. Our guide, Sesi, was the best!! She even talked my husband into dancing, well at least trying to dance!! The next time we are on Oahu, we will definitely be coming back for another round of fun!!

Avoid this tourist trap. This is a place for fair weather tourists or elderly tour groups. While the local staff were helpful and friendly, this was an inauthentic cultural experience and a waste of money.

The island buffet was disgusting. Very poor food quality similar to a cheap buffet restaurant.

The performances are the highlight, but they are just OK and a bit corny.

Avoid this and go experience the real Hawaii elsewhere.

I'll try to make it short and sweet just like our tour guide she was literally short and sweet explain everything we needed to know as to where no one needed to ask questions okay well maybe a few my daughter had gotten married two days prior to visiting the Cultural Center I got a pretty good sunburn and dimples let me wear her hat as it was another hot and sunny day she really felt bad for me literally a heart of gold all of the dances that showed different meanings pulled at my Heartstrings a few of them even made me cry as it was so beautiful if I was made of money I would visit there every chance I got there should be more of these cultures for all to see maybe this world would be a better place I absolutely loved it there

The cultural exhibits and especially performances are great, and the food trucks outside are delicious. The shops carry locally made items. However its not immediately apparent that all proceeds go to the mormon church. Hawaii has revoked their non-profit status because of this. Also, don't take the 'Free Bus Tour'! Its a trap! Nervous mormon missionaries drive you to the mormon church and leave you there for 20 mins while their on-site missionaries try to convert you. It was a deeply uncomfortable experience.

It was a good show actually. Most luau's serve alcohol this one doesn't. If your going to do it just buy the standard dinner ticket don't go for the upgrade. The standard ticket has a show the upgraded ones don't and the food isn't that much better.

This was kind of fun for the kids. Pretty 'disneyified' but a few activities to keep the kids amused for a few hours. Its really the staff that rock here though, they are all super nice and friendly. I cant say that I know much about the mormon religion, but im generally cynically about missionaries etc, however the university and cultural centre on the surface seems to be a pretty good way to help young islanders expand their world.

About Polynesian Cultural Center

Polynesian Cultural Center: A Journey Through the Heart of Polynesia

The Polynesian Cultural Center is a world-renowned attraction located on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. Voted as the #1 Oahu attraction, it brings to life the spirit of Polynesia through its six authentic Polynesian villages, luau, and evening show. The center is a non-profit organization that aims to preserve and promote the culture, arts, and traditions of Polynesia.

The center covers an area of 42 acres and features six different villages representing different islands in Polynesia - Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, Tahiti, Aotearoa (New Zealand), and Hawaii. Each village has its own unique architecture style and cultural practices that are showcased through interactive exhibits such as canoe rides or traditional games.

One of the highlights of visiting the center is experiencing their award-winning Ali'i Luau. This traditional Hawaiian feast features an all-you-can-eat buffet with dishes like kalua pig (roasted pig), poi (taro paste), lomi salmon (salmon salad), haupia (coconut pudding) among others. The luau also includes live music performances by local artists who showcase their talents through hula dancing or playing instruments like ukulele or guitar.

After dinner at Ali'i Luau comes Ha: Breath Of Life - a spectacular evening show that tells a story about Mana - a young boy's journey to find his place in life while discovering his heritage along the way. The show features over 100 performers who dance hula or perform fire knife dances while wearing colorful costumes that represent different cultures from across Polynesia.

Apart from these main attractions at PCC there are many other activities you can enjoy during your visit such as learning how to make leis or coconut husking demonstrations which give visitors an insight into daily life in these islands.

The center also offers educational programs for students who want to learn more about Pacific Island cultures including workshops on music & dance lessons taught by professional instructors from each village.

In addition to being an amazing tourist destination for visitors from around the world PCC also serves as an important cultural institution for locals living on Oahu island where they can learn more about their own heritage while sharing it with others too!

If you're planning a trip to Hawaii then be sure not miss out on this incredible experience at PCC!
