Perfect place to do thinking work, reading and writing upstairs. Peaceful and airy, lots of natural light. Lots of tables and comfy seating. Overlooks a park and the Hudson River. A Le Pain Quotidian is just around the corner to grab coffee and water to bring with you. Excellent poetry collection and events as well as workshops. Has a great children's library downstairs. Also has a cart at the entrance where you can buy poetry books for good prices.

The Poets House has excellent views, comfortable seating, and impeccable lighting. It's a perfect place to sit and read a book, and the classes on offer are definitely worth looking into!

A welcoming, and well-welcomed reprieve from this chaotic city. I love this neighborhood as well: The esplanade, the parks, the Hudson floating toward the ocean. Here, you get great views of all of that. Just a beautiful, airy space inside. Shelves of poetry from all periods. I just love it. They offer events, classes, and even what looks like a fellowship. They could easily charge a small entrance fee or membership only to access this space, but it's open to anyone who respects the space and possibly writing, and poetry, too.

The House of Poets is an authentic gem next to the Nelson A. Rockefeller Park. If you want a quiet place in Manhattan to read, study or relax with great views of the river, this corner is perfect. It is open to the public and is free.
The other public libraries in the city do not allow you to bring food and drink, but here you can. The upper part has seating, comfortable cushions and floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the Hudson River and Nelson Rockefeller Park.
