The old woman who is at the register and walks around staring at customers does not know how to smile back or say hi.
The male employee is nicer though, he does plant seminars etc. The prices are too high though for their products.

Call before you go. Annuals were sparse. Hybrid geraniums were almost gone...I couldn't find multiples of any color/species.
Large bags of potting soil were sold out.
Specific annuals were unavailable.
Vegetables were sparse. I did not find a single tomato plant.
I could not find a thistle seed bird feeder.....It is not business as usual. Really sad because many smaller vendors have closed....

This has got to be one of the best nurseries I have been to in Illinois at least in this region
I have been there more than a few times and each time I have met a different person and each time these people are very friendly helpful courteous and respectful there is only one that seems as though she doesn't like to "play nice" with the other employees but I like going to this place anyway because they have such a good variety and actually are able to put on a show with their displays while showing their products
In my own opinion for what it's worth you may pay reasonable prices or slightly higher prices but then again the quality of the product you are receiving outweighs the cost in the long run
well done Platt Nursery

I've shopped at Platt Hill on several occasions. What I like best about this location is the knowledgeable staff and HUGE selection. Sure you might get slightly lower prices at a big box store, but try to ask them anything about the plants they sell and you get a deer-in-the-headlights look. I like tropical and exotic plants, and this is the best place to find them.

Great plants for my indoor garden, too! I drive from downtown Chicago to buy succulents, carnivores, tillandsias and ferns. I've gotten these from store in the city, but the quality is never as good as what I get from Platt Hill. Everything I got from them over a year ago is still going strong =D

I had forgotten how great it looks during the holidays. The employees are helpful and friendly.
I needed a little bit of happiness during these distressing times and Platt Hill Nursery was the right place to go to.

Really Nice Nursery and Greenhouses! Great, knowledgeable helpers all over the place! I really liked the vast selection offered, the layout of all of the stones, pathways guiding you into each section! I come from a background in landscape Design and construction at Ohio State University and have been around a few nice places in the midwest...this is one of my top 5 places for plants! Big Box stores will never be factored or compared cuz they're just garbage..keep up the good work! Looks great!

Spent a fortune on pepper plants and vegetables. Brought them home planted them every single one effected bye white fungus. Even the ones planted at my dads house I bought at the sametime, and it stinks because I really like this place and bought here every year the day before mother s day with my mom. Now I just feel defeated.

Been going to Platt for years. I've always had good luck with their plants. Nice selection of flowers, ornamental grasses, shrubs, and landscape rock/stone. And their staff has always been friendly and helpful.

In fact, we just ordered various shrubs and a tree from their Carpentersville store, and we're equally happy with their products and service at that location as well.

I read one negative review that was ridiculous. I've been shopping at Platt Hill for about 30 years and NEVER heard an employee of theirs be anythingbut patient, helpful, and knowledgeable. The prices can be higher than the chain stores, but there is a big difference in the health and variety of the plants at Platt Hill. I can bring a leaf from a sick plant and ask them if they know what is wrong, and one of them will know. When i have time, i have been known to follow Mike or Joe around, listening to them help customers, because I always learn more.
If you are on a budget, don't go inside. The nursery side is enticing and the other half has all manner of plant products and of gifts and garden ornaments.
They also have great seminars and craft classes, like making fairy gardens.
Plan to allow for time to dream of what your garden and home could like when you go. I absolutely cannot make out of there with "just one thing."

We bought 4 trees this spring. By fall 2 had to be returned. I highly doubt the other 2 will survive the winter. Luckily we have gotten a full refund as part of the refund. however if you buy from there way your options carefully. Part of the reason our trees died was due to our soil but a big factor was definitely the installation of these trees.

Currently refusing to take cash for purchases, I will walk out next time without making a purchase next time.

The CDC stated people should social distance, wash your hands frequently, avoid touching your face, and stay home if you're sick. Oh, and wear a mask when social distancing is not possible.

My absolute favorite nursery out of anywhere around! I go almost weekly to browse, chat with the staff there and often pickup a new plant or two. Everyone is great and the prices are very reasonable!

There is a nursery only a mile down the road I live on so I was reluctant to drive a whole hour to go here. After doing so, I can say it was worth it. All the plants were well cared for and the selection was huge! On top of that, the employees are amazing. I was helped by a young woman named Breanna. She did a wonderful job potting my plant and showing me around.

Nice plants, horrible service. Wanted to shop local.

The employee walking around inside nursery was not nice, did not offer to help me when it was obvious I needed it. I told the cashier I had to leave my cart in the nursery because it was too full/heavy. I told him what was on my cart. He rang it up and told me to have a nice day. No offer to get help to get the cart to my car.

So I walk outside and see three teen-boy employees. I asked them to help me, and they did so immediately! They were awesome, hence the two stars instead of none!

When I got home I told my husband what had happened. He called and talked to the manager, Kelly. She was no better, (she wasn't helpful in store either). She made excuses, offered no apology, was indifferent. She didn't care.

I'll go back to the discount home improvement big box store next time, spend less money and get better service.

I have been shopping there for all my plants now for 3 years, average I spend $300 per year or more. Other day did another $170 purchase and had my $5coupon with me...well it was expired (baby brain) so I asked can we still honor it? Most of places would do something for you seeing you are a member and spending money all the time. The answer was a quick NO. Ok then I will be shopping somewhere else now.
If $5 coupon its such a big deal for a buisness on $200 purchase of a returning customer then you know they don't care about you.

Totally love this store but they're a little pricey. In addition to the vast array of beautiful plants, they have an awesome gift shop in the front. More often than not, I find a treasure to bring home. I can only think of one guy that works in the greenhouse and in the back with the plants that is super friendly, but I don't know his name (blond guy). He says hello to everyone and is helpful with his knowledge of plants. Seems like he enjoys what he does.

I have moved an hour away from Platt and when I want my spring and fall flowers I drive back to them and load up my car. All my neighbors tell me how beautiful my flowers are and I always give the credit to Platts. If anyone wants beautiful and healthy plants this is where you need to go. 5 stars in my book.

Good plant selection. Trees are somewhat lacking. Maybe it's just the season when I visited.

Staff help is 50/50... Joey and Adam are awesome... forgot another woman's name but she seemed like she was in a hurry to brush me off.

The plants are incredible and the staff takes good care of them.

The prices are a bit higher than what you'd expect at Home Depot or some other "big box" store, but the plants are top-notch.
