What was once a staple of the city, is a fair place to go for lunch. Burgers are alright but doesn't keep up with other burgers in the same price range. Milkshakes remain fairly nostalgic. Staff are less than friendly. 3/5.

I moved to Calgary in 1979. As a burger junkie, it did not take me long to discover the legendary and unique Peters Drive In. Back then, for those who like quirky little known trivia it was not a bright shiny drive in exactly where it is More

Why change a good thing?

Why change a good thing?

Ever since the place was taken over by the new owners you definitely don't get the "Peter's Drive-In" vibe anymore. They now accept debit and visa, is it convenient? Of course! But who remembers telling everyone that came from out of town. Hey, you gotta check out Peter's, don't forget to bring cash! That amoung multiple other things. This place used to have a whole bunch of people working there that you could tell had worked there for a long time. They knew how the place worked, service was much faster and generally simpler. They now take your order on a tablet, remember they used to write it on the side of your bag, do the math in their head and give you your change.

The biggest thing is, now you can't say only in Calgary! Oh, yeah, only in Calgary.... and Red Deer...

It has definitely went from the drive in you can't drive by to the drive in that's just like any other drive in. Nothing special here... Move on. Next. But hey, you got your fancy debit/credit cards and your tablets and your security cameras all over the place and don't forget your second location in where? Right... Not famous Calgary... But Red Deer. Top it all off with some not so friendly service and some long wait times and you've got yourself... Well you figure it out.

When I crave it, I come here for their milkshakes and/or onion rings. Im not much of a fan of their burgers just because I think they're just okay, nothing too special about it. Their milkshakes are iconic for being hard to suck through the straw at first haha. I like how I can mix milkshake flavors. In the summer, it's nice to eat outside at their wooden tables.... and when it's cold at night they have heaters to keep you warm while you stand outside lining up and waiting for your order. Staff are friendly and will give a lot of extra condiments (when u ask) such as ketchup.

Long line ups during summer time when everyone comes here for the milkshakes. Can mix up to 3 flavors in one milk shake, there is up to 4500 combinations available here. Awesome fresh fruit sundaes as well. Oh and if you rather eat your dessert than drinking it, banana split and dipped cones are awesome.
