Persimmons Waterfront Restaurant Review

Great food, spot-on service and an awesome waterfront venue.

We had lunch there today. Our waitress Destiny was excellent, friendly, knowledge, and efficient .It was expensive but worth it. My club sandwich was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had and it was enormous . I could only eat part of half of it. Menu is slightly limited but I will return soon .

Located right on the river front. Did not eat, but enjoyed a nice drink while enjoying the views.

Great service. Ok food. Little pricey for what you get.

Service was impeccable. Staff was friendly and accommodating. The food was perfect. My favorite was the fried green tomatoes.

Great service, but cooks had to improvise because they were out of their special. Replaced the 12oz ribeye with a 10 Oz flatiron but left the price the same. Otherwise would've been 5 stars.

My hubby & I ate here in early March 2020, just before COVID-19 changed life as we once knew it. We enjoyed a delicious appetizer of grilled brussels sprouts. Then my hubby had a wedge salad and fish tacos, and I had the crabcake on fried green tomato with a side of buttermilk mashed potatoes. Excellent flavor, great service! Too bad it was dark and pouring rain while we dined here because I know the view of the river would've been awesome during dinner!

Our dining experience at Persimmons was not up to the standards of a fine dining restaurant. The place was noisy, we were served appetizers on chipped plates, Our food order was extremely slow getting to the table, one of the meals (ribeye steak) was extremely under cooked (raw) and was sent back to the kitchen. It returned to the table in the same condition that it left! We will not be returning. Is this the best New Bern has to offer?

Visiting from out of town and my sister suggested Persimmons. As they had only just moved here, we were banking on recommendations from their new friends and neighbors.
Wow! We shared the shrimp and crab "starters"...to die for!! Main course shrimp and grits, and the trout. Everything was just superb.
The staff from hostess to our server Trinity were warm and attentive.
If you're ever rolling thru New Bern Persimmons should be a "must do" on your "to do" list!

Went for a sunset dinner. They require reservations and you can't go inside until they notify you by phone. We called them for 20minp and it kept giving us a busy tone. Finally got ahold of someone and went it. We sat right on the waterfront, which was lovely.
Ordered the brussel sprouts, caprese, and fish &chips. The brussel sprouts were really good and flavorful. The caprese was above average but not spectacular. The fish was really thin, but had great flavor, although it didnt come vinegar or tartar which would have been nice. Fries were nice and crispy. Overall the food was good; it was the service that was lacking. Didnt refill our waters and seemed like they forgot about our table. Maybe just an off day for them with how busy it was.
On a coronavirus note, most staff were wearing masks and hand sanitizer was readily available.

Excellent food and service! Will be returning soon!

Was there in June for my Sister and BIL wedding. That was my first time there and everything was....BEAUTIFUL!!! The food was AWESOME and the Waite Staff Very Professional....Can't wait to visit again.

Hostess was rude when we didn't have a reservation at 5:30. My husband ordered steak that was grissly, hard to cut and chew. On the plus side, beautiful view.

Highly recommend! One of my favorite restaurants in downtown New Bern to visit, among the many other delicious choices to choose from. Persimmons offers a delightful choice of options all with top notch flavour and presentation. Menu items change frequently as their chef is always expanding palette choices with sophisticated cuisines. Located on the riverfront with spectacular views no matter which seat you take. Wide open spaces inside and huge seating option on their deck on the water. The service is always exceptional, being very attentive, prompt and friendly. Restaurant is well maintained, cleaned and organized. If looking for a nice lunch/dinner/drink date be sure to visit Persimmons Waterfront as it is always a satisfying experience. Recommend!

If you haven't been you need to go. It was well worth the money in my opinion!

Best cheese plate. Love all the locally sourced food. They also accomadated my alergies to gluten, soy and corn. Delicious and consistently wonderful. Thank you.

Had a 6pm reservation, yet people who showed up after us and ones without reservations or seated ahead of us. My pregnant wife and I were left standing there, watching others getting seated.

Food was ok, server was ok. Will come back when the weather is better and the deck is finished.

One of the best brunches I've had. We WILL be back. Gotta support our local places and you can easily distance within the restaurant or order "to go". I would recommend the shaved ribeye benedict. Service was awesome and lovely view of the water.

Went for lunch on July 21. $16.99 for just OK Crabcake Sammy. But they charged me $0.50 for a tiny paper cup of cocktail sauce. When I received check I questioned it and the explanation was " its homemade". If I ever go back I'll skip the condiments.

Fine dining if you're deaf and blind. No interior decoration, no tablecloths, no background music (especially on Valentine's Day). Servers are friendly but very inexperienced or just ignorant, definitely not trained to be serving upper class guests. Price of the food was exorbitant, and is obviously the only way the owners can afford the location. It's pretty apparent that they got in way over their heads. Though the food was great, the experience was very lacking. Will not be visiting again.

The Service Was so bad. And management was terrible. I will not be going back to eat here, the food was good but it didn t make up for the terrible service and management. Very disappointed.

Excellent service, the food was amazing, the atmosphere was top notch!

Be prepared to wait....slow on the service end but, the Sea Bass was very good.

Nice place on the waterfront, drinks are a little pricey and food is all seafood but very pleasant atmosphere.

The restaurant accommodated a group of 11 and our server was warm and friendly. Everyone enjoyed their meals (the roasted Brussels sprouts were the best I've ever had). It was a cold night for our dinner so the waterfront ambiance wasn't as much of a draw, but I would love to visit sometime when we could sit on the deck for a twilight dinner.

The service is incredible. Our needs were handled timely with real teamwork displayed by the staff. The food matched the level of service. Our food allergies were accommodated with precision and the 2 appetizers (oysters and brussel sprouts) we a prelude to our delicious entrees. So glad we drove the extra 35 minutes out of our way to have a romantic moment dining on the water.

I came here with my fiance for a nice afternoon break after walking alongside the waterfront. We had a glass of wine and French fries to snack on. Great service and a really nice place for a date. We enjoyed sitting on the deck.

Food was locally sourced and fantastic. Staff was great and we will return every time we are in New Bern.

Great food but spendy. It was high quality though and it's a waterfront restaurant so that's expected. Bumped to 4 stars because the waitress was not familiar with wine and it took forever to pick the correct one. Will be returning!

Very good service and food. The mac and cheese and crab cakes were delish as well as the dessert only wish the hush puppies came as standard versus as an appetizer.

Good food. My husband's Mahi was awesome! Also, they use recyclable take-out boxes, which is so much better for the environment.

Great food with complex flavors and wonderful service

When you own the waterfront, you own it all. Say no more Governor. Interesting beer on tap, my seafood was fresh, my sides interesting, I left in a proper good all-around mood.

A little too formal for me - not like an open beach bar that lets you shuck off the tightly coiled death-grip Raleigh puts on your thoracic cavity when you walk thru the door ... but that's just me.

You will not go wrong here. It's all good - and nobody will force you to stay all night either.

Great location on the water, very good service but both of our steaks were tough (filet and ribeye) and were undercooked (very red, not medium). Price was very for the quality. With so many interesting and fine restaurants in town, I doubt that we ll be back.

I was recently at Persimmons and it was a great experience. The level of efficiency and hospitality was remarkable, definitely a nice place to eat.

Phenomenal! They say the better the view, the worse the food but Persimmons turns this on its head. Yes, the view is stunning but the food is even better. We went for Sunday brunch and I'd have to say it was the best brunch I've EVER had. Awesome service. I will be back for lunch or dinner very soon. You will not be disappointed.

The food was good but unfortunately, the horrible service out weighed it..our service was terrible. There really is only so many times you can tell a table the bread is baking and will be out in a minute .my server ignored my family repeatly..and was training a another person!My daughter's food came out 30mins before everyone elses and my son had to wait 15mins for mayo for his burger.For the money that I spent I was overall disappointed in my dining experience

Food was great. Service was slightly off but nice people. Very loud children at table next to us playing loud game devices and mobile movies.

Wow!! This restaurant is a must eat if you are in New Bern or even close to the area!! From the fabulously friendly staff that greet and seat to you the spectacular water views, nothing about this establishment will disappoint . The food is fresh, locally sourced, and expertly prepared to be appealing not just to your palette but also your eyes. highly recommend!

The lunch menu here is awesome (get the brussel sprouts) and the outdoor seating gives a great view of the water!

Wonderful waterfront dining. We came in by vessel and docked. Ate a fantastic meal and resumed our cruise

The food is always great! We picked up a crab cake meal kit for dinner tonight and it was delicious! Large portions and very flavorful. The crab cakes were all crab with very little filler! I would definitely get it again!

Almost didn't go after seeing a google rating of 4.3 Not sure why it was that low....we give them at least a all around 5.0 & a minimum of 4 stars...... everything about Persimmons demands higher acclaim......

The location is fantastic but the service was poor. We were seated at a dirty table and had to request it be cleaned. We waited almost 20 minutes to be offered water. When we noticed bugs in the salt we decided to leave. The manager did not seem surprised by any of it. This was very disappointing. Now I know why it was not a busy restaurant on a festival Saturday! What a shame as this is a beautiful venue and the owners obviously have put a lot into this place.

Went there for lunch. Very poor quality food and very expensive. View is great. I ordered a club sandwich which was just awful. Worst ever.

Horrible experience. 12 oz ribeye sent back not just once but 3 times and it still came out very raw. Just kept taking the same piece of beef and putting it on the same plate hoping we wouldn't notice. Never received sides and only part of the other entree. Clearly something wrong in the kitchen tonight and not on a very busy night. Get your act together, especially at these prices.

Lovely restaurant on the waterfront with indoor and outdoor seating. Great drinks selection. Food was delicious, calamari starter was special. Very good position for walking on the Riverwalk afterwards.

Food and service was excellent. We did make a reservation. I am giving a 4 star because of the acoustics. You heard tables being removed constantly. I don't know how they can avoid it, but it is somewhat loud. I would go back.

Delicious food, great water views and lovely casual atmosphere. Best restaurant we dined at in the area. May not be as "fine dining" as in larger cities but a very respectable establishment for the area. Shared the cheese and meat platter which was fine but not remarkable. Paired nicely with a bottle of Malbec. I then had the Tasting of NC land and sea (beef and tuna tartar) which was delicious and very moreish. Also had asparagus which was rather salty and heavy with horseradish flavor but nice enough when balanced with my tartar. No room for dessert, yum!

Not recommended!!!... unless you like hair in your food. Definitely will not be back despite the great view.... the most unpleasant experience. For starters, you can't rest your arms on the table it is so wobbly. Then, there's a table next to us with one person that arrived at the same time as we did and the waitress greets and addresses both tables at the same time to let us know she our waitress for the evening. I've never experienced this in a restaurant. Not a good way to get your tips. We order champagne and the glasses look dirty. We were told they were just water spots and she had just polished them. Part of their uniform are black t-shirts... I really dislike being served by someone who's wearing a dirty t-shirt., it looked like she hadn't washed it for several shifts. We ordered our food and it was tasty, however 1/3 of the way though I found a hair in my food and lost my appetite and that was the end of the meal. So we mentioned it to the waitress... the manager didn't even bother to come out to apologize. They still had us pay for the meal with the hair in it ($27) and offered us a $15 gift card...disgraceful and and insulting... needless to say they can keep their gift card (I left it). Do you think I'm going to come back again?... No way! Happy Anniversary (it was not) ... wait there's more.... after getting home, I reviewed my receipt and also noticed the restaurant over charged us, 2x for our one bottle of champagne. So I called the restaurant and asked them to pull up a detailed receipt. They connected me with the manager. He was apologetic. In the end he did not charge me for my uneaten meal (thank you very much) and reversed the double charge.

Food excellent. Shrimp dip amazing. Views are so pretty. Waitress Stevie very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. Definitely reccomend.

Just because the chef put micro greens on every plate doesn t make your place fine dining way over priced and over rated.

Not good food at all!!! The appetizer was better than the main meal, I ordered fish tacos, and was impressed with all the lettuce but disappointed to find almost no fish! (I thought it was a joke, but no it wasn't) Horrible cilantro drizzle, best fish tacos I had were in L.A. Don't mind paying a lot of $$ for good food, just bring me good food, it was not enjoyable at all....First and last time I will visit that restaurant. Please do not waste your time or hard earned money, Morgan's is the place to beat in New Bern.

Service was great and fast. Food was very flavorful, but small portions for the price. Very nice restaurant.

Pretentious. Unreasonably expensive. Little variety. Food quality/quantity did not justify the cost. Nor did the service. I was not impressed.

The waitress we had was very snippy and rude when my friend asked about the beer temperature as it was not very cold when she got it, food was just okay would not recommend this restaurant

I went to heaven for dinner! This place is the best!

We made reservations for 2 at 7:45pm and were told it would be a 45 min - 1 hour wait. Sorely disapointed, what is the point of a reservation?!

Would not bother again. View was great but portions were small and overpriced. Had swordfish and shrimp & grits. Neither were very tasty. Menu is pretty limited.
