Shanice was very rude and not cooperative with me at all. She wouldn t allow me to speak or explain my issue, therefore when I asked to speak to someone else. She rudely advised to call back so I hung up and called back. Where Ben was friendly enough to explain my issue and resolve it quickly and efficiently. There s been numerous times when I d call and the customer service is beyond terrible! I m sure your job sucks but don t put your attitude on to the customer.

My experience was not s pleasant one. The techs came out to my house unannounced. Put a meter to my furnace vent and declared that too much CO was coming out of the vent. Proceeded to turn off m gas and tell me to "get someone out here" i said OK and we had a furnace tech out early next AM. He said our furnace needed replaced and we shut it off immediately. He said the CO was slightly elevated in the basement but we were measuring In the living space. we agreed to replace the furnace pending stimulus checks arriving. He turned our gas back on and as far as we were concerned the matter was settled. I might add that we had recently recovered from covid19, The gas techs opted to not enter the baasement at the time Fast foreward....Tuesday 4/22.same techs show up again unannounced (Found out later my husband notified me through text of their impending arrival, Too late... MR big shot tech announces they are "here to do an investigation" and "BTW WHO TURNED ON YOUR GAS?"Now mind you this was a full two weeks after MR BIG SHOT turned off my gas, So I guess we were expected to go without for two weeks. Temps were in the range of 50s all the way down to near freezing some nights. We coped with the cold but no gas would have meant no hot meals and no laundry as I have a gas stove and dryer. I felt like i was being accused of a crime and my personal sanctuary invaded. I started to get very angry,,,,rightfully so in my opinion. They wanted in my house immediately. I eventually relented under protest. They stay in the basement about 2 min and boss man declares that since i am so hostile they won't be doing the work. Announces he is turning off my gas again and since I am argumentative nothing is going to get done until my new furnace arrives....so i get my gas turned off out of spite. at least they could have taken a reading in the basement to confirm the absence of CO which would have qualified my house to have gas. I contacted customer service immediately and the man was kind and assured me there would be someone out the next day to check the line. The next crew was handled by my husband. they worked diligently for about an hour checking the main line and then checked my stove and dryer to confirm no leaks. our gas was promptly restored. This crew was professional and thorough. Honestly don't know what the other crew was up to but showing up late in the afternoon while I was alone in the house was disconcerting to say the least. My only protection is an elderly pit bull. She is half crippled with arthritis but they woulldn't know. I want to state I am elderly (late 60s) and did not appreciate a hoard of young men coming on my property unnannounced. Maybe some retraining could help fix the attitude problem of your employees. Please know NO ONE is getting back on to my property with out a timely notice. I expect to be called a day in advance and they must arrive in the AM when my husband is home. Anyone coming on to my property uninvited will be escorted off by the police. Then I will contact a lawyer. Sorry to have to play hardball but no one has the right to force themselves onto private property and intimidate an old lady.

Scheduled a two-hour appointment where someone must be home to start service, only to have nobody show up and not even receive a phone-call. They had to postpone the service for the following week and the only reason I ve rated them two stars is because they offered to waive the fees for the inconvenience. It seems customer service is very unreliable albeit friendly in my experience.

For profit company. Makes no sense how a utility company can be for profit and frankly I don't understand how it's legal. Every gas, electric and even water company in the Pittsburgh area has some sort of customer assistance program for low income families. People's Gas does not. Their supposed CAP program is only a budget where they spread out your payments instead of having to pay more on your bill in the winter. My income is HALF of the federal poverty guideline yet they provide me with ZERO assistance whatsoever. I really wish I could go back to Columbia.

I tried every day last week to get the service at my new place turned on and couldn't get through. They shut it off, finally got through on phone. Now the apt window to get it turned on is literally 7 am to 5pm. What even is that. So now I have stayed in a 50 degree house for 4 days and they refuse to come turn it on today. I even offered to pay whatever they were going to pay the utility person to come turn it on. I also have had people's gas at other houses/apts I've got great credit-this is a matter of terrible corporate policy. The management in charge clearly need to re-evaluate how they do business. Not happy.

Total BS. Scheduled technician appointment between 7am and 4:30pm...apparently he showed up at 10:48pm while I was not home, People's blames me for not waiting. Now have to wait three more days for service...after waiting the initial four days.

On my sixth call now and I'm told I need a supervisor to set up my gas line inspection. My plumber left as he has been sitting waiting at the jobsite for 2 hours. They still don't know who I am but they finally attached me to an account. Unfortunately now they say they don't have an address attached to my account. I thought Jill in customer service had this resolved but then I got shuffled to Brian in new construction. He kicked me back to customer service where they said they could help me. They said they would put me in touch with the department that could help me but then Brian answered again and asked why they sent me back there???? He said he would connect me to another department and to ask for a supervisor. When I did that I had to explain the whole story over again to the new person. She stated I had to do this before they could escalate this and have a supervisor call me back. All the while my plumber said he was tired of sitting there with his thumb up his a................. so he left to try to go make some money on another job. Now I'm on hold as this new customer service rep is going to AKKS (yes AKKS) someone why there is a technical problem with the account showing up on there screen. You are all caught up with the story and I'm on hold. They now want to give me back to Brian in the new customer department because service wasn't active at this address at the time Peoples bought Equitable. FRANKLY I DON"T GIVE A FLYING blank IF YOU DON"T KNOW HOW TO CREATE THIS ACCOUNT IN YOUR SYSTEM! Now the supervisor is going to talk to the new service department and call me back. TOTALLY INCOMPETENT. Now I have to wait for a call back as they don't know how to set up a new gas account. How an that be when all they do is sell gas???????????????????????????????????????????????. I wonder of a customer relations VP has the balls to call me right now???

Edit: they eventually fixed it, but it seems like the blame was mostly on emerald gardens apartments for the issue. Apparently the usual guy left and they didn't instruct the new guy on how to deal with emerald gardens. But still giving this a 2 star because they could have called me or used common sense and went to the club house to get it hooked up. Also ridiculous it took them so long, they were literally there for 5 minutes.

My house is currently unliveable due to the incompetence of this company. I told them I would be out of town on the 27th and to contact the apartment manager for access to the apartment. They went to the townhouse and left a note on the door, didn't even contact me knowing full well I was out of town and moving in soon, didn't try and contact the managers according to my housing company. Now I'm unable to live in the house as the temperatures were around 50 some degrees in the area with the space heaters. I had to quickly make alternative living arrangements, as they were not able to turn on the gas for almost a full week. I tried to talk to a supervisor and they have yet to get back to me (contacted them on the 29th and again this afternoon). This is not good customer service, my pipes are at risk of bursting, and I can't even live at my house. I cannot recommend a company that gets away with this sort of behavior

They make it patently impossible to pay the bill, and then gleefully charge a late fee, on top of charging a fee to make an online payment in the 21st century. This is an example of the corruption and abuse that results from monopolies: We don't have a choice, so they're free to provide service that would doom any other business to bankruptcy.

Maybe all gas companies do this, but their estimates are never even remotely close to what I actually use. I live in an 800sqft apartment, with the hot water being the only thing that is run by gas. The first month I moved in, they tried charging me $72! After arguing with them and demanding they take my reading, the bill was dropped to $15. Every once in a while, you'll get a pleasant person on the phone, but most times, they are unbelievably rude and unprofessional.

This past month, I called because they used their own estimate rather than the reading I called in (?), and the lady blaimed it on the weather. When I explained my heat was electric, she asked if I had a hot tub!? What?

Not satisfied at all. i had called 20 days prior to schedule the start up date for service and had informed them that i would not be available on weekdays before 5 pm as i work like everyone else does Monday - thru Friday. I told them to contact management if they needed someone onsite. No phone call, a note left on my door stating i wasn't home. So i was left with not hot water for shower and no gas to cook food. on top of that the meter is located outside, they did not even need to access the inside of the home to read the meter and bill accordingly. Absolutely unacceptable and unprofessional in my opinion.

People's Gas was supposed to call me 15 minutes before they came. In both cases, they did not and as such, the gas was not turned on. Here is hoping that three times is the charm. No one shows up. Apparently they didn't need me to be here at all. They waived the 25 dollar transfer fee, but no other compensation for 4 hours lost time.

Make sure you are home. 900 sf should not equal $250 in April when the only thing that uses gas is our hot water tank and our furnace (which wasn't even ran during April). Called a week prior to set up an appointment to turn the gas on, gave us a window between 12-4 pm on our move in day. So we waited. And waited. Called twice asking for any information on where their technician was. Of course they didn't tell us any information. 415 comes around, no tech, so we left to finish things we had to do. Called today and apparently the tech came at 4:38pm and it's our fault we missed him. They won't compensate for the wrong doing on their part and we also have to wait another DAY to have the gas turned on EVEN though it was their fault their technician was WAY PAST their "window" customer service is a joke and don't even bother asking for a supervisor. This company is already a headache. Completely rude.

My roommate and I decided to change the bill name from his to mine, so I called them and clearly stated that we aren't looking for new service, but simply to change the name of the bill. They insisted that they had to open an entirely new account. They insisted that they HAD to charge me insane start-up fees and a security deposit even though we already have our gas turned on and they have to do NOTHING.

Now they haven't even sent me a bill and it's been over a month!! They have done NOTHING. I called a second time and they didn't even have a record of me trying to change the bill the first time and didn't have any point of reference, so I had to go through the process again. I'm STILL waiting for a bill and it's starting to get cold outside. However my gas still works, but now I'm afraid they're going to blame this on me somehow and charge me a late fee. We came back to our Pittsbugh house to find the gas line had rotted between the house & the street. (House was built in 1951.) Peoples' sent a team out immediately to diagnose the problem, and even put in a temporary line so we wouldn't have to wait out the holiday weekend without gas. They were professional & so helpful both on the phone and when they came out to diagnose and fix the problem. BEST GAS COMPANY!!!!!

My husband and I had smelled gas around midnight tonight so we called the emergency number and within an hour Tim from Center township came he thoroughly checked our whole house inside and out and even relit the pilot light on a hot water tank he couldn't have been any nicer!! I've been a customer since 2004, and had my bill set up for automatic payment since probably 2010. When I recently switched the credit card on the account, lag in the system caused an on-time payment to appear late. The "late" payment made me ineligible for automatic bill payment for 6 months. Customer service was completely unable to assist in any way even after reviewing the time stamps of my account activity.

Every time we schedule a meter reading (because it is in the basement) they say "Oops, it's scheduled for tomorrow." They mess up their billing, their appointments and are reluctant to help you over the phone. If you are able to pick a different provider, do so.

They claim all these excuses but at the end of the day they are extremely nontransparent, unprofessional, and incapable of sending a simple refund to a former customer-in-good-standing. After promptly responding to a gas leak on my street, the company has taken 4 months to repair the leak and repave the road, and has towed cars for early morning construction with little or no warning. The construction has also necessitated shut off of my gas several times and I was offered 8 hour windows to expect the technician to arrive to perform the reconnect (because I don't have other things I need to do in my day than sit and wait for them). Customer service is very poor, I would strongly recommend an alternative.

Do not use this company for your gas billing. I had to move to another state on a whim and I had called an expressed that to them. In turn they forced me to pay the new tenants gas bill. I cancelled the payments after I learned the apartment had been rented and in turn they added a fee on top of it and refused to remove the fee. If you enjoy paying someone else s bill, use this company.

When the leak was fixed in 15 minutes, the technician would not come back. Called the customer service only to hear him being annoyed and talking as if I owe him money. Telling me it takes HOWEVER LONG IT TAKES FOR TECHNICIAN TO GET THERE FROM HIS HOUSE to turn on the gas. Have you got no manners?

I owe $1,600 and with the covid that was going on I faced hard times. Not only that, I have no lease and the company did not seem to care about that neither.

Absolutely horrendous customer service. Horrible on every level of consumer contact. Doesn't deliver on promises. You'd think we'd have an alternative choice for natural gas...nope. We just have to continue to hold our noses and swallow their excrement.

If I could mark it as no stars I would. The active service was fine, until I cancelled it. They make you schedule an appointment that is a 4 hour window. I cancelled my service because I m moving, so my house is empty but someone needed to let them in to get a final meter reading. I was told I would receive a call when they were on their way. I showed up early at 11:30 and I was scheduled between 12-4. After 2.5 hours I called to see if they would be there soon only to be told that they had arrived at the house at 9:30 am and no one was there so they left. I did not get notified they had been at the house, and of course there was no one there...I wasn t schedule for another three hours.
How this makes any sort of sense is beyond me, next time I ll skip the hassle, not waste my time, and just send the customer service email a photo of my final reading like I ended up having to do anyway.

Worst customer service I've ever experienced. Even compared to other utility companies ! After reading all the other reviews, I guess mine is par for the course. Much to my misfortune, I have been a Peoples customer for 19 years now, mostly all of those years spent in the "budget" plan, on "auto pay". In 19 years, I've been late with a payment exactly never. I was sent out of town by my county employer, and unknown to me, as Peoples never had the courtesy to send me a letter, they claim I "missed" a payment. I return home to find my gas shut off> Even after 19 years of perfect payment history, The trolls at customer service decided that after all other reconnect fees, I was judged to require a "security deposit", and kicked off auto pay. Nearly $500 later, two obese men came and one hooked up the gas while the other busied himself mopping his brow and sweating all over my porch. I guess the 4 "Good" reviews are the trolls that comprise the customer service department. As everyone else already stated, I only wish it were possible to give them a 0 rating !!!

They are done working at 4pm. 7pm they show up 3 hours later while I m in the shower, and never called to tell me they were on the way like they are supposed to. Called to speak to a supervisor today, was told they can t come today, they tried calling last night. So not only did this company lie about calling, now I m 48 hours plus with no gas because this company does whatever the f it wants and is incompetent. Terrible customer service from a company who thinks they are too good to actually take care of its customers. Garbage.

Waited at home all day for said tech to show up, mind you I was sitting in my living room from 7am until about 5pm waiting, he never showed. I called customer service and the lady was extremely rude and stated that the tech was at my home at exactly 7:30am but no one was there to answer the door...I WAS HOME ALL DAY!!!! Utterly abysmal customer service. Unfortunately, they have a monopoly in my service area. I tried getting service to a house that had been empty for a few years. I ended up having to report the company to the Better Business Bureau just to get the information on what I had to do to get gas service started. Even then they had issues locating their own line. After 4 months it is only now looking like I will finally get a hookup. I wish I had know of their ineptitude beforehand, I would have installed all electric during my renovation.

People's gas is not a company. they are criminals, their service is highway robbery. I have not touched my thermostat at all, it has stayed at 68 degrees the last few months. So why does my gas bill increase every month? It shouldn't be 150 plus dollars for heat at 68 degrees. I am literally never paying this bill and i hope everyone at this company suffers for taxing people's lives
