PDX Code Guild

I just finished the full-time program at PDX Code Guild in Portland and had a great experience. While the coding journey had its tough moments, the school was incredibly supportive. Whether I needed guidance from the main instructor or the TAs, help was always just a message away. I definitely feel like I gained more practical knowledge here than I ever would have by studying on my own.

Choosing a coding bootcamp in Portland meant I had a clear picture of what I needed: a supportive environment where I could ask questions freely and make mistakes without judgment. My goal wasn't just to master one or two languages, but to understand the core logic of programming and pick up skills that are actually in demand. While other schools in the area offered similar vibes and instructors, PDX Code Guild was the only one that checked every single box. The first month was dedicated to Python 3, with a strong focus on computational thinking rather than just syntax. This approach paid off when we transitioned to Front-End development, making the jump to HTML, CSS, and JavaScript feel seamless. We built a portfolio site, a photo gallery, a dice game, and other projects, which was easily my favorite part of the curriculum. The course then wrapped up with Django and database design, setting the stage for our Capstone Projects. Each student chose a unique Capstone project based on their interests, with the only rule being that it had to incorporate the technologies we had learned. I leaned into my strengths, creating a project that was heavily front-end focused while still demonstrating solid backend understanding. It was an intense experience, but I walked away as a confident programmer. With a knowledgeable, supportive instructor and friendly staff, PDX Code Guild delivered exactly what I was looking for. I highly recommend it to anyone ready to dive in.

Completing the four-month Evening Full-Stack Development Program at PDX Code Guild in Portland was one of the best professional decisions I’ve made. The curriculum hits the key technologies—Python, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, SQL, and Django—but focuses heavily on quality over volume. Each module follows a great structure: learn the basics, build an instructor-led project, and then tackle a custom design challenge with personalized guidance. My portfolio grew significantly during the course, including a Weather Forecast App, a personal portfolio site, a Yahtzee game, and a full E-Commerce front-end. The real challenge came with the Django backend for that shop and the Capstone Project, where I built a recipe engine that generates cocktail recipes based on available ingredients. Because class sizes are capped at 12 students, you get substantial access to instructors who dive deep into software design patterns. They also offer solid career support, helping with LinkedIn and GitHub profiles and even providing professional headshots. While I worked full-time throughout the program (as did many peers), the hours were long. There is no traditional homework, but to get the most out of it, you need to dedicate yourself fully to the four-month period. I spent many nights and weekends refining my projects, and that effort paid off immediately. I received a job offer from my top-choice company the very day classes ended, securing a raise of over 50%. I’ve also had recruiters from other local Portland tech firms reach out thanks to the strength of my updated profile. Be aware that PDX Code Guild notes it typically takes three to six months to land a role, so results can vary. They also advise against accepting offers below a certain threshold, and my new position exceeded that recommendation. Overall, I’m thrilled with the outcome and highly recommend the program.
