This was by far my favorite place in Sintra. Much much quieter than the rest. The paths leading up to the mansion made my explorer heart very happy. So much thought has gone into all of it. And the huge Aloe! Beware of the one way streets, though. We took Uber everywhere as it's not the nicest hike in this area and it is quite the detour going back to the city from here, especially if you want to go the the Regaleira park after.

Beautiful 'Palace' and Gardens. The style of the house is very Moorish, the gardens exotic and the rolling lawns English. Lovely place and for us one of Sinatra's 'must sees'.
You can take a tuk tuk up from the square in Sinatra village. But there is a car park too.

Amazing house. We were unable to see the gardens due to fire risk in a very hot spell but you can see a huge amount just from the house. Amazing architecture and history all told from around the house in different rooms. A lot of restoration happening and hopefully finished soon. Recommended.

Very pleasant garden to turn, with hundreds of plants from all over the world. The interior of the building has corridors that offer a spectacular perspective reminiscent of the Alhambra in Granada.

A wonderful landscaped park and almost for us alone! No crowds, apparently forgotten by tourists. Small gardens are laid out on various levels, there is a lot to walk on, and it is rewarded for its diversity and exceptionality. The castle has its own charm and went through many hands that can be seen in the different architectural styles.
I can only recommend a visit!
Two hours you should take your time, although, we were there in the rain, maybe three ...

This is definitely worth a visit AND you can park right at the place, which is unusual for the Sintra parks. We spent 1.5hrs in the grounds + palace.

All of the many palaces we ve seen in Portugal are these imposing, grandiose and almost overwhelming works of art. Monserrate was a pleasantly surprising change. It s a much smaller, romantic oasis nestled in a sprawling forest of everything from roses to succulents to exotic flowers I ve never seen before, all shadowed by ancient trees with roots that are determined to keep them around forever, crawling over the ground. But as though to not be judged by its small size, the amount of intricate, painstaking detail packed into the palace is more than any other I ve seen. Every inch of the walls and ceilings are carved with beautiful detail.

Over the centuries among various owners, it has welcomed artists, musicians, journalists and even people fleeing the Nazis grip during WWII.

A must visit when in Sintra. The Palace is stunning. It blends Gothic, Arab and Indian influences. The Music Room and the Central Atrium are stunning.
And the Park is great to explore with its themed gardens. We strolled through the Fern Valley onto the ruins of a Chapel, then to the Mexican Garden and finally the Rose Garden before we visited the Palace.
We stopped to marvel at the great diversity of the plants and show many curiosities to our young son, such as unusual mushrooms and vegetation.

A green area, well inserted in the Serra de Sintra is in the Natural Park of Sintra-Cascais, which is an authentic oasis where calm prevails. The palace, although under construction at the moment, is worth a long visit.
Various logistical support where you can then have a comforting meal, indoors or on the terrace.

Palacio Monserrate, one more palace inserted in Sintra, with beautiful gardens and also a beautiful palace. The area is not very big, can be seen in half a day, but a big variety of plants, trees and flowers.

Beautiful construction of Arab style, surrounded by a spectacular garden. If touring the palace takes half an hour, visiting the different parts of the gardens can take up the entire day. Plants that range from giant sequoias to Mexican tunas. Beautiful in winter, I would love to see it again in the spring with its roses and other plants in bloom, it must be memorable.

The main house is being restored to some of its former glory and is full of architectural details with a range of influences. They have free piano recitals in the fantastic domed ballroom as well. A walk round the landscaped gardens is also a treat. A must see when in Sintra.

The Montesserrate Palace is an architectural and landscape reference of Romanticism in Portugal, with Gothic, Indian and Moorish influences. In it is one of the richest Portuguese botanical gardens, where there are species from all over the world, organized by geographical areas. Both the Palace and its lush gardens reflect all the splendor of fine 19th century society.
