Walk in to the ER with a lot of stomach pain and groin pain. Hurts even I breath in and out. Took 1 hour to just get checked in and stuff. Another hour in a room trying to figure for a doctor to see me. Waited for ever then doctor as few questions. Left never came back. Wait another 45 min. Still in pain getting hungry and no one came back with any update. I told them I need MRI or ultrasound based on the urgent care I went to before. I waited for ever got up and decided to just leave since I been there this a lot time in pain and no one really helped me. So if You come in here with pain, don't even bother going. It wast of time and they just want to get paid. I asked to just leave at this point. They wrote a note saying I pulled a muscle and clearly I knew that but they was more to it then that and didn't care to look at me or treat me in any way. When I see the bill I am fighting it because I had no treatment or blood work or anyone even touched me or looked at my pain. I been sitting here for over three hours with no update or anything. Pointless. Ended up just leaving.

What an awful experience. I came to the ER with my brother at 11:30 pm after he was experiencing severe abdominal pain and ended up leaving at 10:30 am. We waited 90 minutes to be seen. Waited another 2 hours for basic vitals and a blood exam. At that point, he was told to take a CT scan, which requires that a 2 hour wait after taking a medicated liquid (this I understand is standard procedure). After the scan, we were told at around 6am that the surgeon had to review the results--who was not in yet. We suspected that he might have appendicitis find it hard to believe that the doctor on the floor could not confirm if that was the case as it's a very common procedure. At 9am, the surgeon told us it wasn't appendicitis, and he was clear to leave (his stomach pains were nominally better). We waited another hour to get our exit papers. Throughout the entire ordeal, no one offered updates unless we asked. The room was also frigid to the point where we were trembling wearing long sleeves. Although my brothers pain didn't end up being too serious, it's no excuse to keep a patient waiting for almost 12 hours in extremely uncomfortable conditions without checking in. Shame on this hospital.

The intake at this location is very slow The emergency room might as well be out patient services. They might as well rename it "Casual treatment center". If you escape with your life intact, the next round will be with your wallet. One from the doctors and one from the hospital. Your wallet will lose. The billing center will call you at inopportune times and ignore you if you call and leave messages. And then report you to collection agency. Unless you are dying, please stay away.

The reception staff at the ER was very helpful and informative. They were also caring.

Unfortunately the Patient Care Tech who was taking my vitals was not as nice. While I was getting my blood pressure and temperature taken, I was able to peek at the ER. I wasn't impressed and there were a couple of empty beds.

After vitals, I was sent back to the waiting area. I waited about an hour and half to get IV because I was dehydrated but decided to leave without care because the ER was packed with sick babies/kids who needed attention more than I did. The ER wasn't moving fast enough and I felt bad for the babies. Idk what it takes for the ER to admit people but their process needs improvement.

I realized, just because the hospital is labeled a Hackensack UMC affiliate, it doesn't really mean I should expect the same type of reception or service.

I hope I don't get a bill for not being seen by a doctor.

I have to say that coming here for Cardiac Rehab Therapy was a great decision. The staff are consummate professionals who keep you focused on your care. Recovering from a heart attack is a trying experience but the program here is real and productive. Living in this area presents many options for Cardiac Rehab and because of Dawn, Peggy, Harry and Kevin, I am confident that I made the right choice by coming here. Thanks for all you did for me!

Nighttime ER nurses and doctors are understaffed a...

Nighttime ER nurses and doctors are understaffed and overworked. It is a highly demanding and very stressful environment. However, I have had countless experiences with various nurses and doctors at Hackensack UMC for the past 2.5 years with my brother's battle with cancer, and I am sad to say that our worst experience ever encountered was at this very emergency room just last night. Hackensack UMC in Hackensack is my brother's primary hospital but he was brought to North Bergen (closer to our home) due to the urgency of the situation.

To try and keep the story brief, he was left without the care he truly needed for nearly 11 hours. He had been immediately put on a ventilator for his breathing and his wrists were restrained to the bed rails. It is completely natural for someone to feel panic, anxiety, and pain when having a tube shoved down their throat. He begged to be sedated for hours. I was very vocal in my brother's needs but they were never met. From the very beginning I knew my mother and I were being undermined because she cannot speak English very well and because I'm a young girl. Not once did I ever hear a doctor or nurse ask him are you in any pain, what kind of pain or what level of pain. Instead he was desperately trying to type out on my phone that he felt like he was going to faint, that he needed to be put under. The nurse asked my mother to leave the room so that he can insert a catheter. The nurse comes out of the room, but no catheter. A diaper instead. When my brother needed to be cleaned up, it took the nurse 50 minutes to respond. I counted the minutes. It wasn't until I was standing at the desk unmoving that the nurse decided to help. Oh, and he didn't even do the job. He called someone else to. Unprofessionally shouting in all directions, "Naomi? Where's Naomi? Naomi, I need you to clean up in room 18." Meanwhile he was sitting at the desk chatting and laughing with his colleague. My brother also had chest tubes that were bleeding and leaking since before he arrived at the ER. The night nurse made no effort to clean it up. It was left in the exact same condition for 10 hours. It wasn't until the morning when I could get in touch with my brother's nurse practitioner myself that she ordered the nurse and doctor here to give my brother painkillers and tranquilizers. The ER doctor here actually glared at me when the nurse practitioner asked to speak with him on the phone. Unbelievable. After this horrific experience, my brother was eventually transported to Hackensack Hospital's ICU by helicopter and then went into surgery. This is how urgent the situation was. And yet he was treated like an animal at this ER. Perhaps even less.

This is the first time I've written a review for any institution and I wish it was for better reasons. But I need to strongly voice that the nighttime ER team here at North Bergen is a complete nightmare. This review would not be necessary if my family and I felt that my brother was given the amount of care he needed, even in a limited ER facility. If we even saw just a glimpse of the team's efforts and care. But this ER lacks all of this. Shame on you to nurse Dwayne Johnson, Mr. Jose Kuttappassery, and Dr. Carl Desiderio. The most condescending, uncaring and incapable team of doctors and nurses I have ever met. Another shift of work for them became a night of pain and agony that my family and I will never forget. One that could have been even just a little less painful had the team done their jobs. I will be formally writing a complaint to the management and staff. I don't wish this experience upon anyone else. Do yourself a great favor and try to avoid this place.

Perhaps one of the worst hospital experiences I've been to. Took my daughter for a 104.8 fever. Staff spent ten minutes explaining we should've given her Tylenol before bringing her because temps that high can cause seizures then watched them dilly dally around for thirty minutes trying to find a thermometer. Then the non English speaking nurse made us hold the baby in some weird awkward position to put a butt thermometer in, when I tried to explain it's easier just putting her on her back and putting it in. She gave up, then I called her back and held down my screaming baby in a position she wanted. She tried explaining that there was a special position and I was stupid enough to believe that there's a special way to put a baby for taking a temperature and I had been doing it wrong for the past 8 months. Totally useless, and terrible training since the next nurse just took the temp in her most comfortable position. X-ray tech was awesome, which was a bright side and the PA was pretty good. Nurses sticking in blood test needles struggled big time as well as the blood tech. Not good training. Hesitant and unsure was my bedside manner impression. Everyone was staring at their iPhones most of the time, and barely communicating essential information.

If you're sick and dying, or hurt, just die. It would be easier and cheaper on yourself and your family than going to this, or any other hospital.

Came in for a tetanus shot. They charged me 700 dollars. Absolute thieves!!!!!! I cannot afford this bill!! It's 4 times what I make in a single month!!!

Been calling for a WEEK now and they wont answer their phones to apply for Charity Care!! Now my bill is going to lapse into late fees and they'll tell me it's MY fault its late!!

They want me to come in person to apply for charity care if I cant afford the bill, but I live in Ohio!! I was just visiting New Jersey for a wedding! They seriously expect me to drive 8-10 hours back to New Jersey, spend a weekend there, just to find out if MAYBE I am eligible for charity care?

They are literally going to make me go bankrupt and these soulless people dont even CARE. They made me wait for THREE HOURS before someone finally walked in and gave me my shot, and then inflated the price to SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS because "A doctor diagnosed me." The doctor didnt do ANYTHING!! They walked in and asked me what happened!!! ANYBODY CAN GIVE ANYBODY AN INJECTION!!

I had an MRI at Palisades recently, and it wasn't at all a good experience. I was told to arrive an hour in advance of my appointment, which I did. I finished intake in a half hour and then waited for another 90 minutes because they were running behind. Afterwards, I told them my orthopedist had requested the images and was informed that I would have to pay $10 to the cashier in the lobby and then wait for the images on CD and send them to the doctor myself. 2 weeks later they still hadn't sent the results report to my doctor (I'm not happy with the orthopedist's office either for not following up on this as they promised). When I finally phoned myself, they said it was because they had no fax number for the orthopedist's office, only a phone number. I pointed out that I had been there in person for the procedure--OBVIOUSLY--and I would have been happy to phone the doctor myself to get the fax number, had anyone told me they didn't have it and didn't intend to get it. I give them two stars only because the staff are friendly and nice, although not big on follow-up.

Went to visit my Mom over the weekend, and brought my 3 year old son with me. Mom had fallen and was recuperating at the hospital (she's not sick). When I arrived at the hospital, security stopped me and said I couldn't bring my child with me inside the hospital. I was told there was a state-wide emergency ban on all children inside hospitals. When I called the general number for the hospital during the week (several times), the automatic answering service that directs your call, did not mention any ban on children at the hospital. I checked the Palisades hospital website and there is no warnings about this. I checked their Facebook page and it lists the hospital as CHILD FRIENDLY. Bad communication to the public about visitor limitations. Who is running this place? Do you think it's a good idea to inform visitors WHEN THEY ARE ALREADY AT THE HOSPITAL that children aren't allowed? If there is a state-wide emergency policy, why aren't you communicating it all over your website, FB page, in the automatic switch board answering service?

There are a few gems in this place like a great anthesialogist and a few good nurses and drs. Other than that the place is subpar. The majority of the staff is uncaring and unorganized. Noone seems to know what is happening, you have to repeat yourself often. There were nurses in the maternity ward facetiming with family vs assisting us patients that needed help. I live close by and thought I would go in for a simple delivery here (big storm the day I delivered). My son and I almost didnt make it out alive. My upstairs neighbor went in one night to the emergency room here and said never again. I also went to the emergency room with my grandmother a different time and the manager (phillipino lady) was super uncaring. Moving forward no matter what the condition, we will drive further to get proper care.

Terrible service, they never informed me that the doctor was not part of my network, so I have so far paid 800 out of my pocket, plus the ct scan i just got a bill for. I went home after they diagnosed me with vertigo, but the doctor never even looked at my ears, since I didn't feel any better, went to urget care and they told me I had a ear inflammation. Will never go there again.

Terrible, the staff attends lousy, they are very racist, you have to be an American citizen to be treated with a little kindness. I went with my daughter, she is autistic and the nurse treated her very badly, they did not let my husband who is the father of my daughter pass, and to ask for an excuse for school it took an hour, they have to change the staff immediately.

Worst of the worst hospital I ever been. Waiting to be taking care off for three hours. People were with pain and the front desk nurses didn't care enough to take those patients inside. My relative went inside twice only for the staff to take his insurance information only and then wait another hour. I do not recommend this hospital. Go to Hackensack Hospital or Holy name In Teaneck. Run away from that hospital.

The worst hospital ever. And,I gave them chance, for at least 5 times, what me myself or going with my husband. The reason why I kept on going there is because it is the closest one to my home. Never got any diagnosis, while in other places I would go to the end of solving a problem. I really think that all the doctors there are dumb, unfortunately. My experience is based on emergency room only. The staff is nice but doctors are very incompetent.

Went into the emergency room for the 2nd time this weekend in severe pain. I kept being told they would get me something for the pain. But I was there over 3 hours before I could get any medication, and that's only after crying and pleading with whoever passed by my bed that somebody please help me. Most of the staff saw me, looked away, and passed by without any concern. Right after finally getting some relief the doctor said they were going to discharge me. He still had no idea what was causing my pain and offered me very little information. I told them I didn't want to leave without a better idea of what's happening. At the very least, the other Doctor, Dr Molina, came by after and actually explained some things in detail. He's the only person in that place that seems to have a clue and a decent bedside manner.

this is the worst hospital ever. I am pregnant and was having some bleeding, i went to the emergency room and was made to wait 3 hours before seeing a doctor because they had no beds. When they finally got a bed and checked me a man came into the room and told me i had to leave, i asked if i can at least get dress as i was still in the gown with no under wear and bleeding and he said no just exit the room. i was placed in a chair, when i asked for a sanitary napkin or at least some tissue, the nurse said no just wait till someone comes to me. i was at this hospital for 5 hours only because i really wanted to ensure nothing was wrong with my pregnancy. I will never go to this hospital again even if i am dying.

STAY FAR FAR AWAY!! This "hospital" is one of the absolute worst. Not only is the billing/admin department a mess like most hospitals, but their doctors also can NOT be recommended.
We went to Palisades/Hackensack for a simple biopsy, and they took a week to get us results... that were then incorrect! They mis-diagnosed cancerous cells as benign! Good thing we went to another hospital and got a real diagnosis and treatment plan. (in fact, the doctor at the other hospital shook his head and couldn't believe it when he saw the incorrect report from Palisades).
As for their billing department, they told me they were an in-network hospital for my insurance plan and then later sent us a huge bill saying that a certain department/doctor was "out of network." It took me over 6 months to resolve the issue and the hospital was no help, my insurance company was the one who assisted.
As another example of how inept and unorganized this place is, I also know someone who received a bill from Palisades some 19 months after their ER visit there. STAY AWAY!!
