They have still a cockroach problem, don't know the other rooms and what's going on in the kitchen. To be safe don't buy any food etc that isn't totally closed or put everything in the fridge.

I don't know if that's enough, never dealt with a cockroach problem.
I want to be on the safe side and I will throw my baguette and open noodles away.

On the other side, I did not have any bed bugs.

The 2 nights / 3 days trip was good.

The staff was very friendly and today we got some free sushi!

So 4/5

An okay-ish hostel, primarily use for stop-over for Fraser Island tours. Some dorms fairly small, although all are comfortable as well as showers and kitchen but can get busy once all tour groups start their food prep

The hostel itself is nice and hygienic, but a lot happens by accident.
If you come back from the Fraser Island Trip, one night costs $ 24, however, it may be that you get into a 6 bed room or a 12 bed room and that for the same price just does not make sense.
In addition, you pay at the beginning of a fee for the room key and should get back when you go to Fraser Iceland. This has not happened to me and even after a complaint, nothing has changed.
"You probably just forgot that you got it again" -> Quote from the manager ...
Another negative point is the incredibly unstable Internet, which is provided free of charge, but this is also great as advertising in front of the hostel.
If you just spent a bit more time and effort in planning it would be a great hostel, but it did not happen to us. The coincidence determines how pleasant the stay is, although the same is paid.

It is a good passo hostel if your destination is Freaser Island, it is easy, the facilities are comfortable, accessible and the schedules are very good in terms of entry and exit. Highly recommended quality price and highly recommended the escurison to Freaser Island.

The palace hostel is nice for ONE night. The Fraser island tour is expensive when you compare it to the accommodation and food. Because there is always to less food and the menu is every day the same! Take also your pillow from the hostel with you, because at Fraser there is none. You will sleep on the ground, after ONE night you will definitely have a back injury.

About the food; when the tour has been finished you will lose 4 kilograms, because you're living the whole day on ONE crob salad (with sand in it). When you're at Hervey Bay again you must visit a dentist, because of the sand.

Liquor; this is also a huge problem on Fraser, its very expensive and you can't get pissed of it.

Driving the 4x4; the cars are from the 40's, no cruise control, no chair heaters, no airconditioning (well it was there but not working). Also the speed limit is every where 15 km/h.

Conclusion: don't book this tour you will regret it.

Don't stay here. Do yourself a favour and book at the Flashpackers just around the corner.

We arrived late so they left the key under the front mat. There was 3 of us - 2 had booked a private room to share, and the other booked a dorm. They didn't leave keys for the dorm room. Luckily the private had a twin + double bunk so he was able to sleep in our room.

The rooms were the bare minimum. Crappy mattress. There was only one blanket for three people. The way the buildings are laid out makes EVERYTHING echo. There were some seriously loud people in the common area downstairs and we could hear everything they were saying. Pillows sucked.

There was one outlet in the room, no free (or paid, that I could find) wifi anywhere. The bathrooms were pretty gross looking - I certainly didn't want to shower there (luckily I didn't have to). There was no available parking.

Basically, in no way whatsoever is this a 'palace'. It's the worst hostel i've stayed at.

Above standard hostel. Helpful staff. Located right next to a Spar, a bottle shop, and bakery. Only negative I can come up with is that the WIFI is very sketchy and doesn't reach beyond the lobby - so no browsing images of cats in your bunk bed.

Worst experience ever, just don't go there. Not only the rooms are really old and cold, but the organisation is the worst part. What's written on internet is false for the major part. I have put some screenshot so you can get an idea of what they are selling. The reception was closed at 6:30 pm when it was written 7:30 pm, the storage room was closed at 6pm when it's written 7pm and the day after same for opening hours. Bag storage was supposed to be 3$ per day but they told us that it was only the lockers for this price and ask us to pay an extra night to keep our luggages. The only answer at the reception was that all of that was because it was winter season and that I should have called before. Of course I'm calling when I have to make arrangements that differs of what is it advertised otherwise I'm not supposed to call to benefit for what they are selling.
Also almost no Wi-Fi at the 1st floor.
To conclude just don't go there I don't know how they have this rating because it's not worth the money at all.

Do your Fraser Island tour with Palace!!

Do your Fraser Island tour with Palace!!
The tour was brilliant- Brent, our guide has such amazing knowledge; he swapped and changed routes based on weather and traffic (literally), so we always arrived at spots like the creek before all the other tours. Great food and atmosphere at camp- very much do what you want, drink what you want and look after each other.
We drove a lot quicker than other tours we saw too .
This was the HIGHLIGHT of my East Coast .
The hostel itself was fine for the night before and after our Fraser tour. Lovely staff and neat clean rooms. Small kitchen but no need to have a larger one. From what I saw this is one for Fraser and not much else- no outside area, for example.

This trip was so much fun from start to finish! Dingos, shipwrecks, rainforest, freshwater springs, 4x4 s on the beach, and too many other things to list! Would do it all again tomorrow if I could. Awesome hostel in Hervey Bay, and really nice campsite right next to the beach on Fraser. Our guide Tony was fantastic, and showed us everything there is to see on the island. He and the rest of the staff at Palace made everything so incredibly easy and fun. All the equipment, the jeeps, the tents, the outdoor kitchen, and bathrooms, were all really well looked after. It is camping on Fraser, but with the covered tents, kitchen, tables, and toilets, you re not far off from glamping. Would highly recommend heading out with these guys if you want a great experience on Fraser Island.

Clean and well maintained but the hostel is built around the entire phrase Island trip so it's quite a lot of movement all the time with many going up early and so. Good if you are going to phrases Iceland but less good if you just want to live somewhere. Good employees.

This is a review of the 2 day 2 night tour we did ...

This is a review of the 2 day 2 night tour we did with Palace Adventures. To be clear this is also a review of the tour, and what was provided, not the island itself. Fraser Island was beautiful, enough said, but Palace can't take credit for that.

The cars were great, performed really well and enjoyed having manual. Really not enough space for 8 however. The middle person at the front has to near enough sit on the drivers lap for up to 2 hours at a time, while off-roading. Not great on a 500 dollar tour. Make it 7 a car and then there's enough space for everyone's stuff too.

Camp was great, tent was perfect for the job, really well kitted out and our guide was on the ball.

We had a huge disappointment on our evening meal the second night, which I found unforgivable. Everyone else had hot dogs, and could have a few, looked pretty good. As a vegetarian I was told there were burgers and "other things" before the tour, and we wouldn't go hungry. Instead of sausages we were given slices of zucchini, as our main portion of the meal. I'll remind your this tour is $519 per person. Would some vege sausages have been such a pain? Enough said really.

Decent hostel. Wifi is free. Not everywhere is like that.
Thou signal is weak on second floor.
Amenities are clean.
Second floor 12 bed dorm didnt have curtains. First floor's 6 bed dorm had something to prevent excessive brightness in the morning which was good.
Buses stop here, both Fraser island tour and greyhound. Beach and restaurants are a stone throw away. General store Spar is literally next door.
I liked the staff.
Hostel has a little cinema room. I didn't try to use that.
Couches and chairs are nice and comfy.
No lockers in the rooms, but there is free storage and big lockers for rent on the ground floor.
Washers and dryers $4 each.
Would come stay again.

Travelling the east coast alone and booked on to the Fraser Island 3D 2N trip with Palace. I can honestly say it was the best part of the trip, and one of the most memorable trips of my life. The group of people made the 3 days on Fraser along with our tour guide Adam, but the whole set up was great and the driving was awesome, well worth doing!

I stayed at this hostel the night before and after the trip to Fraser Island, also arranged by the hostel management. It was super convenient and all the facilities were great; toilets, kitchen, common area, everything. As my stay was part of a package solution I am not sure about how expensive the hostel is per night, but unless they charge you an arm and a leg it is well worth, it is well worth it when you are exploring Hervey Bays coast line.
