Once Upon a Time Bookstore Review

I've been giving this store my patronage for the past 12 years or so (since I was a whelp :) and this is THE best bookstore for anyone with a kid. (That's any age kid, by the way, not just below 15 or something.) The staff are VERY helpful and friendly, and every one of them is a real READER of books. They can order any book you like, but the books that are actually stocked in the store are a specifically selected range. All the very best fantasy/YA series are here from Percy Jackson, to Twilight, to Diana Wynne Jones (the queen of YA fantasy, R.I.P.) and of course Harry Potter, Spiderwick chronicles, Lemony Snicket, Eragon, and on and on. In my opinion you can't beat this store for browsing, since the cream of the crop is what they have in the store, and the atmosphere beats B&N, Borders and similar stores hands down. I didn't mention sci-fi there's not as much of that as fantasy, but you'll find Orson Scott Card and others of the best, and of course if you think there's something they should be stocking you can always tell them.

I do ALL my new book purchasing through this store. I'd like to help keep them going! They provide services that Amazon or B&N simply cannot.

Very rude customer service. Bought 19 books there and was so unhappy I returned them the next day. Next time, I'll just order from Amazon.

A nice place to browse and to buy books. Good selection. Customer service is great! The parking can be a problem though.

Great little bookstore. Prices are high but it's worth supporting local businesses. They have an okay selection, mostly newer books which is good. They don't seem to carry many complete series' of books but that's understandable since they're small. Wide selection of genre considering the size, many children's books.

Such a cool place, many different type of books, knickknacks, and overall wacky stuff. You just have to see for yourself. I have never been to anything like it in la so it's truly one of a kind.

Adorably quaint, this children's bookstore is a must visit. The staff are very knowledgable about the literature and they even gift wrap! We thoroughly enjoy going there.

Staffs were easy to approach and kind. Books were well organized and their selection was great. Comfortable couches too.

One of the staff was polite and helpful. One woman was incredibly rude. Not sure what her problem was. Taking my business elsewhere.

Once Upon A Time bookstore is the oldest childrens bookstore in the U.S. The owner Maureen will order you anything you want.

Great bookstore, including for younger bookworms. Also has a few knickknacks and unique stuffed animal toys. Kind of small though.

I was introduced to this store from one of my teachers when I was in school. This teacher was a rock star award winning designer, so I trusted his judgement and went to check the place out. WOW, what a store. If you come, make sure to dedicate a few hours to this place to really take your time to browse. They have a great selection. I wish they had comfortable couches, but then again if they did, I would be there all day!

Not just a great children's book store although they do a great job of recommending books based on books your kids like. They'll get whatever you want within a couple of days.

Visitoing "The Oldest Children's Bookstore in the Nation" makes the drive to Montrose worth it in itself. Once Upon a Time is charming and filled with wonderful books. They recently had a Harry Potter Party for the release of HP and the Cursed Child and often host authors and wonderful storytelling events.

The staff here are really nice & friendly, they let me practice my horrible Japanese with them. ;D Everything is pretty inexpensive, and the store is really neat and organized.

I asked them once if they had anything Sailor Moon and they helped me go through the racks and we found some Sailor Moon mangas-- for $1! Sweet!

It's not often that I go to Montrose, but when I do, I always stop in this little bookstore. This bookstore is very community oriented. It hosts book clubs and there are LOTS of scheduled activities for children. Local authors are also featured here.

It's a most magnificent small bookstore with a too. There aren't many of these left so I'm all for supporting it. Located on the Montrose strip with ample street parking. Knowledgeable and terrific staff. A gem!

Adorable, independent children's bookstore. Relatively small size, but packed with a well-curated selection for all ages, from infant to early teens. Also some really good educational puzzles, unusual blocks (ie: featuring other languages or elements of the periodic table), and stuffed animals. Very sweet bookstore cat on premises and free parking in back, about a half block up the street.

The owner of Once Upon A Time is truly delightful and loves children's literature. I was very impressed at the LA Festival of Books with the number of authors she helped to pull into the event.

It's a family owned bookstore with a vibrant literary community in downtown Montrose. This is our society's endangered species, the bookstore. We love them and all the events that they hold.
