Olympia Entertainment - Detroit Red Wings, Fox Theatre & Hockeytown Cafe Review

The Hockeytown Cafe is a pretty cool place to see hockey memorabila from the Detroit Red Wings to others, They have a couple cool motorcycles worth seeing. The service from their wait staff has a lot to desired. They weren't very friendly and they couldn't get our order correct. Also they sell small Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Tigers small baseball bats, but the staff said they didn't have cash registers set up for selling them. Poor excuse for being able to make a sale. The upstairs has a semi small room that you can rent out to host small events. We attended a Disney Junior Live meet and greet there. So it a nice venue for it. So my recommendation is, go to visit to see it, go somewhere else to eat there in Detroit.

I feel very sorry for the hostesses and the conditions that management allows them to work in on busy nights. Best advice, if this place is lined up to the door, just walk away! There doesn't appear to be any system for managing people on a wait list, or even those with reservations. We arrived 10mins before our reservation time and had to wait to get up to the hostess to let them know we were there because there was no separate line or any kind of organization. People had to literally crowd the hostess for fear of being forgotten. They desperately need a pager system! 30-40mins after our reservation time we finally got seated. The food and atmosphere is actually pretty decent. We got a mix of burgers, pizza, and wings, and they were all good. The prices were reasonable, and the table service was very good as well. Hopefully someone at Hockeytown takes notice of all the similar complaints, and feedback and can resolve their entrance issues, and this place could really go up in ranking.

Hockeytown Restaurant was horrible. Went a month ago and had horrible service. Left because noons came to get our order. Gave it a second chance today and same thing. Waited twenty minutes for a drink then another 15 minutes to get an appetizer that did come. We asked for the bill and was given the bill for drinks and an appetizer that never came. We paid and left. We will NEVER go there again.

Food is not great. Bar service is good when not too busy. Beer and atmosphere are good.

The burgers are delicious, the place is always packed, so make sure you have time if you don't have a reservation, waiting time is about 30 min or more, luckily we found seats at the bar Wich is amazing with motorcycles everywhere it's a cool place to have drinks

Seems nearly impossible to get coffee in the afternoon.

Wasnt busy when we visited. Took forever to get a server. After we were done to eat, it took forever to get the server to cash us out. Poorly managed. Sticky tables. Food was decent.

Food was ok bartender was too busy talking to make our drinks.. we waited 20 mins for a drink and their was only 4 tables in the whole place

Greatest sport atmosphere I've ever been around. Great service and wait staff was incredibly helpful and easy to talk too

We called to make reservations before an event we were attending at City Theater, the said they can't take reservations but to get there before 1 since they got really busy at 1. We got there at 12:30 and the doors were locked, they said they didn't open until 1. At 1 they proceeded to let us know they had no servers and it would be about a half hour before they would open. We left and went to Made in Detroit. We will not be going to Hockeytown Cafe again.

Great spot to stop by before a game at the Little Caesar Arena. We went for beer and pizza during the game, both were good. Service was slow, seemed our waitress was overwhelmed, thou there was only 2 tables in her section. All the other staff seemed to be spot on though. Would definitely stop by here again, go early if u want a seat before big game, just because it's so popular.
Side note: there where people scalping tickets near the entrance, so if u need tickets there available here.

Server was barely around, 15 mins to get drinks for 2 adults and 3 kids.., asked for straws never got them had to go to bar and get them myself. Food was thrown together... Large Cheese pizza only had a quarter cup of cheese on it. I ordered one beer it came to table 2/3 full. Horrible. Never again. I wouldn't bring my enemies there.

Our waitress was FANTASTIC....like your Mom hosting a party for you and your friends, but a "cool Mom" -- attentive but not overbearing. She ended up anticipating our drink refills so she brought a personal pitcher so we wouldn't go dry. However, outside of the service the meal was lackluster. Sooooo much cheese on my BBQ Chicken Pizza. It's was basically a quadruple cheese pizza (sounds good in theory but not in real life) on a thin crust with sparse bits of chicken and sugary BBQ sauce squirted on the top. It was HUGE. Too much of a bad thing. I ended up giving 3/4th of it to the homeless guy outside who I'm sure wanted to give it back once he found out what it was. I won't be back unless it for beers at happy hour.

The food is so bland and tasteless, and to make it even worse is drastically overpriced. Half of our food just didn't even come out. Don't waste your time.

Hockeytown Cafe seems to do everything right although their menu could be a bit bigger and offer descriptions of their burgers as we had to ask what came on each one.

I'd only recommend coming for drinks. The service was awkward and the food wasn't very good. The waiter didn't introduce us to clearly a waitress in training. All the burgers are cooked well done. Fries were good and really the only thing to write home about. When I asked my waiter what the seasonal vegetable was, he said it was "random." Not sure if he understands what seasonal means... my random winner was corn which I was excited about, however it tasted like it had been sitting in cold water for 5 days. Absolutely inedible. I was directed to 2 different bathrooms, one of which was upstairs and significantly further (not ideal since I was injured at the time).

Great location, cool memorabilia inside, everything else = okay.

A must for a red wing fan, however I have been here a few times usually it's a good experience, the last time was terrible because the kitchen was broken and we could only eat a few different things from the menu.

Super fun restaurant if you're in the Detroit area, and obviously more so if you're a hockey fan. Even if not though, decent place to eat with good service downtown, so it's pretty easy to get to. Definitely recommend commend checking it out.

Terrible bland food. Terrible service. Wendy's burgers are better, mac and cheese taste like water and even the soda is watered down. Wouldn't recommend this to anyone sober.

The best thing I can say is my family was sat quickly. Service was poor and the food was worse. Nachos had stale chips and a hair in the cheese. French onion soup came cold with no broth only a few onnions, croutons and not sure how but cold "melted cheese." During the long wait for food NO refills. I for one will not be back.

Some of the friendliest restaurant staff I ve ever encountered. From the moment we walked in the door, everyone was extremely pleasant. It was a neat atmosphere and the food was pretty good. Would definitely go back.

Food was ok, drinks a bit pricey but the rooftop views and decor were great. It was busy the night we went and the staff member that helped was really good!

Haven't been here in years but it was definitely my favorite place to eat in Detroit. It's like walking into the world's largest man cave and this man happens to be a Detroit Red Wings fan. Again I haven't been there since 2011 but I had the Traverse City cherry cheeseburger and it was phenomenal. Not a far walk from any of the ball parks now that little ceasers arena isn't far away.

Pretty terrible food - I swear the beef stew is dinty moore, and the chicken strips are essentially fried, processed chicken nuggets. lots of motorcycles hanging from the walls and ceiling. Meh.

Took over 45 mins to get food and the place had less then 10 people dining in.

Get there early on event day because the food is great!

Wait staff is very unhappy. Cannot say I saw one person smile. Good thing our food was okay be because we never had a follow up after getting it. Busy night but still it is about customer service/experience. They looked like walking zombies serving everybody.

Always one of our staples when visiting Detroit. Food is great for the price and the staff has always been friendly and professional.

Coming from Toronto we didnt have high expectations from Detroit and were suprised by the excellent food and service all around the city BUT HOCKEY TOWN CAFE was a disgusting representation of a blooming city with disgusting service from Nicole. Couldn t even get my 2 Blue Moons or a smile!

Waited 20 minutes for any service after being seated... then decided to leave... super empty restaurant :(

We stopped in for after dinner drinks with a group of friends and couldn't have had a better experience. The bartender Joshua and the rest of the staff did a great job accommodating our large group (approx. 25) and provided a top notch customer service experience that made our night memorable. Thanks again for a great night!

Miserable staff. Just seating us was like pulling teeth. We had a party of 12 and they had zero interest in accommodating us, despite the restaurant being virtually empty. Will never step foot in this establishment again. The old guy working the bar was really nice though for what it's worth.

A great place to catch a meal before or after a Game or a show at the Fox.

Over priced. The wings are over breaded and taste like oven baked (like pizza hut). Service was scetchy at best. Had to track down the server to get our bill after advising we were ready to leave and never got the bill.

This the place to go after a game, very good food and people.

Just ok. It was late when we went, but there wasn't much to be impressed by other than the name and the pics on the wall.

We made reservations for 5: o clock pm. The hostess Trinity we let her know we were there. She wasn t Pleasant. We waited for a hour until we ask agin about our table after complaining we ask for the manager. And told about it she took us to our table. Our food finally came out and it was cold I wasn t happy it out.

Good food good service place was packed due to Hockey game but we got there just as people had to leave for game so got seats at bar ordered and ate with plenty of time to get to Kat Williams show across the street

Flat beer, teaspoon served with our soup, and the French dip sandwich doesn't fit in the au jus container for dipping.

This location is one of my favorites. I've had nothing but pleasant experiences here and plan to keep coming back. It has a good feel to it. Menu is similar to a restaurant in Jacksonville I liked.

We stopped here for dinner before a Red Wings came. Only a 5 min walk from LCA. Busy but fun and not too loud atmosphere before the game. Our meals were delicious. The 3 of us had - Chicken Clubhouse, Chicken Caesar Wrap and Italian Grinder. And we were all pleased, generous, but not overwhelming portions, came with very good fries and a side choice. We had a 30 min wait which didn't seem too bad for a game night. Our service, once seated was very good. Prices were reasonable - better than inside LCA! I would definitley go back if the opportunity arises.

The only reason I think the restaurant deserved three stars is the decor, based on the food I ate, that's all they really have going for them.

Initial waitress took our drink order and disappeared. About 5 minutes later a different waitress appeared and said she was taking our drink order. We told her that we had already given our order to a different waitress and that we were still waiting. New waitress got lippy and walked away. Old waitress came with drinks and said her shift was ending and they were swapping so our new waitress was going to be the waitress we were using. 25 minutes later our drinks were empty and we repeatedly tried to get our new waitresses attention to get our food order. It took us to get the attention of the hostess before our waitress came to take our food order. We got new drinks after ordering our food. After we ordered our food we didnt see the waitress until i flagged her down to get our check. No additional refills after our order, nor did she check on us. Hell, i was even drinking beer- not like it was soda for a free refill. To top it off. The first waitress we had while we were there was still seating tables and on the floor when we left an hour after hetting our food. Great food, great environment, service was atrocious.
