Olympia Entertainment - Detroit Red Wings, Fox Theatre & Hockeytown Cafe Review

Honestly some of the worst bar service I've experienced. The bartender asked us for our order, and as we asked what type of tequila they had, he immediately asked the party next to us for their order. Don't recommend.

Edit: the management team followed up and seems to be addressing the situation.

The waitress was nice but there were too many tables and not enough waiters/waitresses. Took too long for someone to come to our table, drinks were watered down and not good. By the time we got our food (at least 45 mins after we ordered) it was cold and we only ordered a couple appetizers. Went here for convenience because it was close to Little Caesars Arena and we still missed 15 mins of the concert. A lot of complaints while we were there from other people as well. Wont be back anytime soon.

Waited 20 minutes for a server, another 20 and still had no drinks (not even alcoholic). Eventually just left after 45 minutes without seeing our server again, no drinks ever came. Servers and other staff members just standing around, very disappointed.

I've had good experiences here but the last one wasn't the greatest. My dad and I both ordered chicken strips with fries, my dad also ordered a soup. Soup didn't come out early, in fact it came out with our meal and we only received 1 plate of chicken tenders and fries, AND my dad's soup wasn't even put into the microwave is was so cold and it was their cheeseburger macaroni one. We had to make it too the kiss concert so we couldn't even wait for the other plate of chicken to come out.

Visited before an event at Ford field, was very busy. Staff was helpful

Best BBQ pulled pork sandwich I've ever eaten! Absolutely amazing. I try to eat here before every sporting event I go to, and that sandwich is my go-to everytime!!!

Atmosphere for redwings fan is UNREAL!! Food was COLD and and mediocre. Beverages were cold and tasty. HOWEVER, you wait for over an hour to even get a table. Waitress forgot about us. Do not have high expectations!!

Went before a Wings game. Great location. Lots to see inside. Food was good and I was surprised that it was reasonably priced .

Good place to grab a beer and burger before a game.

Expensive and the service is spotty, but there's probably no other place like it. Worth going to for its Red Wings/Lions/Tigers amusement park atmosphere.

First time there, good food, worst waiting service I have EVER had. Will never go back. If you go and your waiter is Holly ask for a new waitress. 10 minutes between table visits, what a joke.

The bartenders on the roof were super nice and helpful and friendly and made great drinks that was the best part ..The service downstairs was ok but the food was not very good at all

Overrated and expensive!
My boyfriend and I thought this looked like an awesome place to eat from the outside. We stopped here a few months ago when we were in the area and they told us there was a huge wait so we decided to go somewhere less crowded. Yesterday we decided to try again since they weren t busy. We got seated pretty quick and ordered soon after that. Then everything started taking forever. We waited forever for our drinks which were just in cans. Not like our waiter had to pour them or anything. We also ordered fried pickles as an appetizer but they came out at the same time as the rest of our food which took a year. We tried the pickles right away and they were cold, smushy, and gross..so we flagged down the waiter and asked if they could be put in the fryer a little longer. Then we tried the rest of our food and everything was absolutely freezing. We aren t usually ones to complain too much so we choked it down. Also, when our pickles came out again they were no better. We only ate about 5 of them. Our waiter also was pretty short with us. He seemed to be annoyed and sassy. I think the girl that seated us told us his name was Christian but I m not sure. Our meal also extremely expensive for the terrible quality we received. Nonetheless the best part of our meal was our drinks that we could have just bought from the grocery store.

Nice place to stop in and have a quick beer! Great place to watch all sports!

Food was cold.. I got the boss hog and it had very little pulled pork no sauce and the sandwich was barely warm and I ordered it well done very disappointed in the Hockey Town Cafe

Good food , fast service ! Would recommend the barbeque burger ! It's a really fun place to be in during the games !

Great food but TERRIBLE service. We saw our waitress a whole two times: to take our order and when we tracked her down to get our check. Someone else brought our food, never came to ask how it was, never brought refills on drinks and never took our plates away. We waited almost 30 minutes after we were done eating before I had to track her down to tell her we were ready to leave. Wasn t even a busy day. I d post her name on here if I remembered it but unfortunately I don t. I d eat there again but only if I got take out.

They didn t have the ingredients to make the first 2 drinks we ordered off of their own drink menu. I finally settled on a dirty martini. It came with only one olive and it looks rotten at that!!

We were in Detroit to see a show at the Fox Theater. We drove 2 hours from Saginaw and expected so much more from a restaurant in the "big city". Although the atmosphere was great and we didn't mind the 45 min wait because we were able to have a drink while we waited and there was plenty of standing room but the food was really lacking. I didn't think you could go wrong with bar food but Hockeytown sure can. The least they could do is make a fresh burger instead of a pressed frozen patty.

The place is convenient and kid friendly but, the food is not good.

Very poorly managed. On a very busy Sunday and took forever to get seated when seats where available. And the food is mediocre

There should be a prize if you can eat their Black & Blue burger! Massively delicious.

Dinner with friends last night while waiting for our daughters when they were at a concert. The spinach and artichoke dip was wonderful, salads were meh and our server was terrible. She acted annoyed to be there, had to check on the soup of the day and if they had sweetener to use in tea. She never checked in on us while we were eating (two salads were missing a key ingredient and one cup was cracked and leaking), advised us we needed to pay our bill now because her section was closing at 8 (we were seated at 7) and basically hovered around us to collect her tips. It was unprofessional and obvious, quite annoying. The venue was very cool and comfy.

Great Location. Delicious fries! I didn't enjoy the pizza, yet that's just my preference. They have a few Vegan Options, looking forward to them offering more.

It was a enjoyable experience! All the different motorcycles on display! The food was good and so was the service!

Huge disappointment! Go with zero expectations of anyone caring and maybe it will be ok. Service was bad, food was mediocre at best and management is nonexistent. Many other places to choose from and you'd be better off for choosing elsewhere.

Had a terrible experience yesterday. After 10am Sesame Street show, went to lunch with 2 small grandchildren. Arrived before the crowd. Placed order right away. After waiting more than a 1/2 hour, I asked the waitress. Toddler was melting down. Her answer was your order was last to be placed. ???? The table behind us ordered just after us. They were leaving as our food arrived. In asking the manager, she said everyone came at once and here is your food. The order was WRONG. I am allergic to cheddar cheese and asked for American. I got cheddar. Luckily my husband asked about it due to color. We switched orders. Obviously not a place to go with toddlers for a fun day out!

Decent, but more of a rival of applebees or tgi fridays than I expected.

Staff was freindly, draft beer was warm and fries were cold, Rueben was good , could of used more than a drop of dressing tho. Still charged me for warm beer full price

Went for lunch and the food was very good. We ordered an appetizer of potato skins that were very good. Our meals were also very good. It was a fun experience. Our waitress was also very nice!

Why do you only have one bartender after a wings game on a Friday night? Obviously a poorly managed place. More people leave the bar than we re staying. Definition of trash

Waited forever for a seat, long past quoted approximate time, then sat for 20 minutes without even seeing a waitress or getting drinks. Food is average at best. Service is typically poor due to not having enough staff to accommodate so many guests. The atmosphere is the only saving grace of the entire place.

Very disappointed. The atmosphere was lame and rather empty. I found that odd expecially since it was Friday night and the tigers were playing. They have a very small menu with burgers and sandwiches. Nothing on it seemed amazing or worth the trip for. I did not enjoy my meal/ didn't eat it. Our waiter was not very good at her job she never came back to check on us until everyone else was done eating. It was not like she was busy, I saw her walking around wasting time. Basic waitress skill is to check on your tables. However she was nice when she was around. I will not be returning mostly due to the lame menu.

Awesome place to get some beer and to be able to watch the Detroit Red wings play some awesome hockey. This place is amazing.

We were in a hurry to make it to a nearby show. They accommodated our rush and had us in and out very fast for a sit down bite. Staff was friendly and helpful.

All I can say is this place was terrible. From the moment we walked in we were greeted by a rude hostess, who actually yelled at a group of customers in front of us. When we finally were escorted us to our seat the waitress had no idea what she was doing. She sat us at one table then moved us again. To a sticky dirty table!! It was 20 minutes before she came to take our drink order. I watched the bartender make all of our drinks and they sat there for another 15 minutes. And the whole time I was there they had a gallon of chocolate milk sitting on the counter! Disgusting!! We got our food after about a half hour more I ordered the twisted Mac and cheese it was served in a soup cup bowl!!!! Which was missing the pulled pork. I was so disappointed in this entire restaurant me and my family will NOT be returning.

Got there before 6 before 7:00 show at Fox. Ordered two burgers and kids meal. After about 6:45 getting up to walk out, waiter shows up with food. "Here you go".

Large and sticky and dirty. The interior literally didn't look like it was cleaned every night because the patrons give about as much sanitary consideration for it as they do the rest of downtown Detroit.

Every single surface area was sticky. With What? Only God and probably the servers know, because they seemed to avoid cooking near anything customers touched.

You couldn't sit down and have a beer. Literally. If you were drinking, you have to stand, even in off peak hours. The bathrooms reminded me of the bathroom in "Saw", except dirtier. I felt like I needed to wash my hands after I got done washing my hands.

The security guard/bouncer looked like his fun was kicking regular, peaceminded patron out just for fun. Either that, or he got his enjoyment laughing with the hostess about how people would still pay $7 for a simply Coors light in this place simply for the "Atmosphere".

Seriously, you want Red Wings atmosphere that bad, go to your buddies basement. 6 can drink for the price of one, he will probably let you sit down while you do it, the of way your hands are getting sticky is becsuse his cute dog is licking it, and you are very unlikely to pick up any communicable diseases.

And, you at least have a chance of seeing someone smile while you're down there.

Food is ok and the service is bad. It is getting better with new management

I was there for an even in the City Theater (located inside the restaurant) and we decided to have food while waiting for the event. It was General Admission so we came early for the best seats. We were told downstairs that it would be quicker to order our food upstairs at the bar (carry out since the wait for a table was approximately an hour and a half). We went upstairs and it was packed. Only one bartender working up there. It took 2 hours to get our order. There were salads that were ordered and we were told that they didnt have any silverware. We also had drinks and after 2 hours were told they didn't have any take out cups but we weren't charged for the drinks (they most assuredly were on the receipt and paid for). Why not just relax and have a couple of drinks while we wait? Well, it took an hour to get a dirty martini and then they couldn't find any olives for another 15 minutes or so. We took our sad food and went downstairs to ask for silverware and we were given 1 set of plastic silverware for 5 meals. The salads were wilted and warm the pulled pork was burnt and cold. The hamburger was black on the outside and raw and dry in the middle (amazing feat) and the french dip was cold with no au ju dip included. We had 1 fork to eat with for 2 salads. And the fries were all cold and half cooked. All in all the bill for the food was around $130 (including the martinis) and were were unhappy. I asked to talk to the manager and I was told "I am sure he is around but I don't know who he is". Just poor all around.

Ok for what and where it is. Needs a complete remodel.

Took a Saturday reservation. Once we get there, there are issues with seating they decide to say we don't take reservations on Saturday. Definitely won't be back

It's really popular for a reason. Great place to go before the Wings game or the especially Tigers game (since it's right across from CoPa.) Good food. Huge space, so it's perfect for big groups.

Tried to go here before a show at the fox theater but it was so ridiculously crowded and we were told the wait was about an hour. We didn't have time to wait but could clearly see an upper section with dirty tables with nobody at them. Not sure why they said they didn't have anymore tables but whatever, we left and found somewhere else. After the show we popped in for a couple of beers. The staff was nice and the decorations were neat.

this is the heart of detroit sports owned by the illich family as is little caesars, the tigers and of course the red wings. sports memorabilia galore and a decent burger.

Burger after 30 minutes waiting in an almost empty restaurant came cold and overcooked to me. The beer was overcharged and for the drinks on a separate bill was an extra "food" cost, that they couldn't explain how it got there.

I had a really good time I was here the first time but today I got disappointed... sadly for such a bar, restaurant and venue.

Only go here if you want the venue and not the food or drinks....

Probably the worst experience in a restaurant. Server was very kind but the general manager was one of the rudest people I have encountered. I thought it was the poor quality of the food that would keep me from ever eating here again, however it was the general manager, Mr. Hernandez, who stopped by my table long enough to insult me. I was not attempting to get money off of my bill for the disgusting idea of food on my plate, just bring it to the managers attention. I still am having a hard time understanding why he felt the need to be so nasty to me and my family....so disappointed Mr. Illitch would allow someone like that to represent his vision of what hockey town should be. ....

Service was terrible - waited 15 minutes before a server came to our table. My Diet Coke was more like water with a splash of Diet Coke so I sent it back for water only. Still got charged for the Diet Coke. Food was gross. We only ordered appetizers and it took so long to get the food, it was all cold. The cheese in the quesdadillas, mozzerella sticks and potato skins had already congealed. Had to wait for sour cream and ranch dressing - even though we requested it at the time of our order. Fries were cold and inedible. Chicken tenders were barely warm. Spinach & artichoke dip was giant chunks of artichoke with congealed cheese on top. Didn't have time to send anything back so we choked down what we could because we were nearly late for a show at the Fox Theatre. Its not like they were packed either. I could go on - all in all a very BAD experience. First time there and a Total disappointment.
