Old South is a staple in our small town. The waitresses are always welcoming and kind. The owner will come to your table and make sure you are totally pleased with your visit. It is truly old-fashioned hospitality wrapped up in a little restaurant with amazing food.

Old South has really bounced back big time in the past couple of years under the new mangement, and IMO is the best it's ever been. You'll get a good, Southern home-cooked style meal in a clean, family environment, by what must be the world's nicest waitresses. The house dressing is just as good (and garlicky!) as it was 25 years ago, and everything my wife and I've had ranges from good to excellent. The chicken strips are veeeery close to those at Brown's Catfish (which are the greatest chicken strips on Earth!), and the chicken fried steak is literally the best in Russellville. You won't go wrong here.

Beware of one thing, however; during peak times it's insanely busy and you'll likely have to wait a while for your food, maybe even a place to sit!

One of the best restaurants I have ate at. I have eaten here almost daily for lunch since finding this gem. Great homemade lunch specials daily. Not in the mood for lunch, try the omelet. I haven't had anything yet that didn't taste like southern goodness.

I think the fried green tomatoes are cut a bit too thick. The house dressing is pretty yummy. Mashed potatoes were gross. Gravy, pork chops, green beans and chicken fried steak were pretty good. The rolls were nasty. When it comes to rolls yeast rolls are far better than sourdough by far. I love sourdough just not as a roll ever. The rolls were cold and dry.

Greasy spoon dinners went out of style in the 1970s, but this place works hard to keep that trend alive. It's like if Denny's stopped smoking and didn't raise prices to support a drinking problem. If you like that weird sense of small town nostalgia, or find comfort in a place that seems anachronistic, then you might like Old South. Not my style, but it appeals to its demographic well.

What a great place old style diner up front with a large dining hall in the back. Service was great and the food was outstanding. My wife and the chicken fried steak and I had the chicken tenders. The chicken tenders were the best I have had anywhere looking forward to a return trip to try out more of their excellent southern cuisine.

Want to go back to the 1950s? Do you want some old school Route 66 style greasy spoon cooking? This is the place! It has been around since that era and closed down for a period of time. It's back! A local legend and should probably be on a historic registry if it's not already.

Awesomely authentic old box car like diner with old tunes playin too. Goood food at inexpensive prices & excellent service. Popular with the locals. Add on space for restaurant seating in back gives plenty of space.

Old South is on the National Register of Historic Places. That alone makes a visit to this 1940s diner worth your time. But an even better reason to drop in is the delicious home cooking and extraordinary service. I had the fresh Gulf snapper special on my most recent visit and found it perfectly cooked, flaky and seasoned just right. My wife had the chicken-fried steak, which she declared among the best she's ever eaten in a restaurant--lightly battered, fork tender and covered with a scrumptious white gravy. We can't wait to get back again for another visit.

Very busy, long wait, although we were 5 people, kind of an odd number to seat, I guess that is understandable, great food and people, I intend to go back often and try some different things they have. Love the small town old fashion atmosphere much better then the newer places.
