The website repeatedly states, "If you were home schooled, call the admissions office to speak with a rep about our requirements for home schooled prospective students".

I called the Undergraduate Admissions office, and got a rudely abrupt "Go to the website". I advised the rep that the website said to call them, and got the same cold, monotone "Go to the website" before being hung up on.

Hardly representative of the University's core values of a progressive, caring, individual-focused campus, don't you think?

Farewell to the limerence like excitement of investigating a new opportunity.

Very frustrating call! I am just needing a simple question answered (that is not on their website) and I have now called three times and remained on the line for 20+ minutes each time and get no answer. It finally says, "You have reached us during business hours, but we regret to inform you that we cannot help you now." Very disappointing.

I am applying there as a prospective student who is pursuing and second degree student, and for an institution who pride themselves with the statement "we are really excited and happy to learn about you!," I got in contact with one of the communicators, and they sounded like they really did not want to help me and their way of helping me feel like it was forced. I'm not sure if they were having a bad day, but nonetheless, I would appreciate it if they could be more welcoming. I did get the help I needed, so thank you for that.

I ve been a student at UNC for 4 years - never try to call the admissions office. The receptionists are extraordinarily rude and unhelpful people who seem annoyed that sometimes they actually are asked to do their job. In fact, I ve never met anyone helpful in-person from this office, either. Really strange because everyone else at UNC is very friendly and inviting. Don t let any experience you may have with these people taint your perception of the school as a whole, however. It s a wonderful place outside of the admissions office.

The understanding that Carolina does a very poir job at recruiting students on the academic side (vs. the athletic) is both widespread and of long duration and almost surely accurate. Yet, apparently, nothing is done to fix the problems. We alumni need to speak up, but to whom?
