It is a nice small-town Y that is recently renovated. The only reason for the star deduction is that sometimes it feels like Im paying too much to wipe off my equipment with flimsy paper-towels and walk on cold/wet linoleum in the locker rooms. Also not enough floor space for abs/stretching upstairs.

One of the best YMCA's Ive been to across the country and Ive been to many of them. Very updated, modern, and loaded with classes for everyone's taste's. The staff is ALWAYS courteous and the facilities are always clean " even if we had to deal with missing the pool for a week " haha Hey it needs to be cleaned sometime ! I notice the chemical odor is gone since the refilling and cleaning, so a year of chemicals was noticeable and it was due for it's annual overhaul for sure. The staff never fails to greet you with a " good morning, afternoon, etc when you enter and a have a great day when you leave"......though sometimes they are not consistent in knowing how to answer common questions about classes and such. One tells you one thing and another gives you a different story. I blame management for that..... not keeping the front desk employees up to date with changes ( I've noticed that 3 times in the pass 10 months ) No one seems to know the new hours, changes, or class times. Some don't even know what the class is all about or the intensity level of some classes. Its still doable and that's the only fault I find, you may have to ask a couple people and a couple times to get a question answered. Huge parking lot and even with that, at times it spills over into street parking because they are busy. I love it here and will stay with the westerly Y. I'm there every other day !

Great facility child drop off while you work out is great, one negative their Wifi Is terrible. I like watching my ipad while I run and I constantly have trouble joining their network, unless they reboot their systems.

I love the pool and the staff is very friendly. It is incredibly clean. My biggest complaint is that the schedules online, in the locker room and the front desk don t coincide causing a lot of confusion and angry members. This has happened the last two Friday s. The information on times above is also inaccurate. This now creates multiple unnecessary phone calls to the facility from members such as myself who drive more than half an hour from Connecticut.

The programs and people are very good. However the ease of registering or cancelling a membership is always a huge hassle. This Y is the least accommodating of any I ve ever been to. They could get better

I really don't need much from a gym. Basic weight equipment, a clean bathroom, a water fountain with cold water. The Y really needs to up their game in the weights department. They have only E-Z bar curls and that doesn't cut it when you need straight barbells; no machine for hamstring curls; lack of barbell neck pads in good condition. It's one of the more expensive memberships I've ever had, but I figure that if they can use a couple of bucks from my fees to get a kid in, it's money well spent. As for college kids who think they should be part of a family plan, I totally get that. But they don't, so best thing to do is get a part-time job to pay for the gym. We all appreciate those things we pay for ourselves that much more.

I was traveling back home to San Diego after doing a car camping voyage throughout the eastern and south eastern seaboard. This was late September and I've been on the road since June.
This YMCA staff member still had the Spirit of the Y and had the courtesy of allowing me to use the shower facilities.
The only other Y on this 5 month voyage that was so kind was Elsworth Maine.
Also a very nice new facility near Wilcox Park.
Nicer than my Y in San Diego Ca.
Westerly......YOU ROCK.

It's a well equipped gym with much to offer but my biggest issue is with the cardio room and what is viewed. I find broadcasting the news networks counterproductive and creates a negative atmosphere. There should be more positive visuals to enhance a workout, not deter.

It's too bad they do not support full time college students who live at home with their family UNfriendly policy of kicking family members out at 22 years old. The membership cost is $45/month for those over 22 y.o., yet another financial burden for college students who struggle with the cost of tuition, fees and books! The Greater Providence Y extends family membership to dependents until they are 26 years old. Why is Ocean Community's policy an exception to YMCA policies in the rest of RI? Very disappointing!

Years ago this place had a very bad reputation: very run down equipment and extremely rude and miserable staff (as was attested to by staff at other branches who had to go thru training at the Westerly branch). This is not one would expect from a YMCA. Now I know that some major changes have been made the last 10 years, but when I was back in town with my wife, we participated in their Turkey Trot road race. What a discombobulated mess! No exact starting and finish line, too many people crowded onto a narrow street, no exact turn-around spot, no way to substantiate times and whether people actually ran the entire distance, etc... . Yet they were all too happy to charge you the price of any other major 5k road race. My wife wound up getting knocked off the course and twisting an ankle.
The Y is asking for major legal problems in this day and age conducting events in such a fashion. The facility looks much improved, but I can see not much has changed with how this chapter isn't focused on what other Ys I've been to understand far better when it comes to its purpose in the community.

So far I really enjoy this place, it's great they offer daycare, the staff is very good with my little girl, they don't recommend you keep them there foe longer then 2 hours. I'm able to work out and not stress. It's the best YMCA I've been in, very clean and nice. The pools are both big and seem to Be well run

I love everything about the YMCA. They have something for everyone no matter what shape, what size, what budget and what age you are. The Westerly YMCA has numerous classes/ programs and comes equipped with an indoor pool and countless kids activities/programs.
