The California Trail is a great addition to the zoo, with sweeping views of the Bay Area, and large animal enclosures that still allow for good visitor viewing.

My kids had a blast. 1st time in oakland. We'll be back in june.
Great walk, lovely views, and the new area is spectacular. The kids love it!
One of my family's favorties zoos in the entire world
Great zoo. The food is a little expensive, but it is a great place to take kids. The only downside is that the Oakland Zoo is built on a hillside which means it is a bit of a struggle going from one cage to the next. Tiresome.
Great place for a weekend outing with kids. Has a good number of interesting exhibits.
OAKLAND ZOO IS AWESOME. So much better than SF Zoo 150% . Giraffes, Elephants, Camels, Lions, tigers, pigs, reptiles, bats, petting zoo with goats and sheep, cool animals everywhere and a SUPER COOL airway skybus with views of San Francisco and the sunset that takes you up to a trail with more animals!
Our kid is always excited to visit Oakland Zoo...And don't forget to ride sky rail...
Nice selection of animals and more exhibits on the way. A lot of hills so be prepared to walk up and down them throughout your visit. Bring a lunch.
Elephants!! Wide open (albeit hilly) terrain with great social distancing.
Currently the Oakland zoo has free parking during the pandemic. A great way to spend a few hours exploring the animals. Our favorites were the elephants, bears, tigers, and lions.
The skytrain gives you a very expansive view of the entire Bay area, absolutely gorgeous views! Highly recommend visiting!!
Love coming here with my 2 year old! We also went to the Night Lights last week and had a really good time!
Great Zoo with something for everyone. Anamals, Trams, Train, and good food.
Took us a while to find parking - they didn't seem to know what they were doing. My daughter and granddaughter came with us. They had fun. Unfortunately my husband lost his camera and never got it back.
The main attractions delivered, the zoo was clean and well-kept, the staff friendly and the animals healthy and happy. Plus the gondola ride was a real treat!
We enjoyed our visit to the zoo and were impressed with the level of preparation to reopen during COVID. Looking forward to returning when the exhibits inside are open!
Love the otters and meerkats it was fun to see all the animals
We just renewed our yearly family pass to the Oakland Zoo. It is a great place to take our son for the day. Make sure to ride the gondola. It is a great ride!!! This is a view from the top of the gondola.
Loved the zoo. It is huge and has tons of animals. Great place to spend full day with family and kids.
One of the best zoos I have ever been too. The zoo has the most scenic views with beautiful and large enclosure for animals.
Good to visit if you haven't! Not too crowd when I was there.
Best zoo in Bay area. Gandola ride is awesome. Much better than SF zoo. Must visit place.
The Oakland zoo is a relatively small zoo, but has all the animals you expect, hours could be longer though, 4pm is a really early closing time...
I did not like the condition the animal are kept. The only good point was the team. The animals there had wide open places. The resturant at the top was way over crowded. I will not going back.
The employees were all friendly. The animals were all beautiful. And I loved the hand written side notes on the exhibits. I will definitely visit again. And I m from San Diego.
Great place for little kids to see and learn about animals.
No one was practicing or enforcing social distancing. When I asked some lady and her many kids to give us some space, she just stared at me like she had never heard of such a thing.
I was very suprised at this zoo, It is by far the best zoo in the area. There are lots of viewable animals and the park is very clean and well kept. When my wife first mentioned the Oakland zoo I thought to my self a zoo in Oakland, I wonder how getto that will be. I must say upon my arrival at the zoo I was more than suprised. This Zoo is well worth the trip.
One of the best zoo I have ever visited.. Clear view of giraffe, elephants, champagne, bit turtles etc plus cabin ride... lots of rides for kids.. enjoyed our day here..
Pretty decent as zoos go. Not too big, on a hilly slope that is a bit of a workout pushing strollers on a hot day!. The new gondola looks cool, takes you to top of the zoo, but the line was too long for us that day. Giraffe, and primate exhibits I liked best. Petting zoo also, looked overrun with kids, animals mostly goats. Cafes at the top. Train ride is teriffic and there is a small midway for kids. $24 adults free under 2yrs and I think around $18? for 7yr old.
Nice zoo. Not too big, not too small. Interesting exhibits and animals. Friendly staff.
The zoo was great. There are lots of animals to see and during the week when we went it wasn't very crowded. We we're able to see almost all of the soon in 2 and a half hours, including spending time at the petting zoo and take the gandola to the upper section. If we had more time we would have take the tram to the only section we did not get a chance to see, the 'Wild Australia'.
We love it and keep coming back. Kids strollers available for rent.
Came for Christmas lights and gondola. Lights were good but the gondola was out of service. Person at the front booth where I bought tickets was not apologetic at all. We still had to pay full price and when asked I was told that they would not be giving a discount for the train ride since the gondola was down. I verified that we have to pay the same price as others who are able to ride the gondola and was told yep. Very frustrated for our kids.
Great medium sized zoo. With amazing line up of animals. How many zoos have a Grizzly?
Family favorite, especially the gondola and the uphill restaurant with a view of the bay.
Great family experience.. I hear they are expanding!
Good selection of animals, has a little amusement park - might be a bit on the pricey side but a nice way to spend a day.
A good too. Small enough you can do it in a day's visit but still varied enough to find animals you will enjoy. I like the baboons, the river otters, and the meerkats. But there are reptiles, bugs, tigers and elephants. Very nice enclosures for the animals, albeit enclosures. There is a gondola ride to a good Cafe that is a bit pricey but I liked the chicken sandwich. Things for kids to climb on when they need something more active than viewing
Pro Tip: If you're planning to take pics with an actual camera, don't forget your SD card (like I did lmao).
Not the best or largest zoo, but a fun, enjoyable, educational place for kids and families.
Beautiful layout, great animal enclosures, lots of space to spread out.
It's really nice and you get to bond with your family more then you expect.
It was all amazing, minus the "restaurant" at the top. Need a bit more hot beverages to choose from. Very cafeteria like atmosphere.
Clean ..well secured facility..with amazing staff who talk about the animals ..so much info and knowledge they have wonderful experience
Nice zoo. Employees were very friendly and helpful. Will definitely return.
Friendly staff, very happy and active animals. Great food!
Love the zoo! We are members and braved the crowds yesterday to tak our family there. The new gondola was packed, 20 minute lines, but orderly and effecient. A great festive vibe! Views of the Bay were incredible!
Active jaguar, bear, tigers and giraffes!!!
Nice place for the kids, choose the amusement park after the zoo. The kids tend to get too tired if you choose to get amused first
I love the zoo totally recommend to bring the family here! The new gondola ride is awesome!
Fun for everyone .My four year old was in love with the tiger's. Super clean and nice staff
A little expensive and lots of hills to walk if it's a hot day with a stroller. Animals are well cared for and it's a good place to bring children. Worth going if you're in the area.
Animals and environment really well kept but very slow service at the cafe'/restaurant (not enough tables and shade too).
Great for kid and adults. Animal feeding for kids, the tigers and their stories were my favorite. The gondolas will get you to the eagles and the wolves, I recommend. $$$
Our favorite zoo. Very natural habitats. It is very clean. Reservation staff was great for my daughter's birthday. Only issue was there were a number of people in our birthday party area and no staff to help us clear it.
Feel sad to see the animals confined. Couldn t see them in there eyes
After you buy tickets online you still should wait in line for a long time to print it out as they can't scan from your screen. BTW overall experience was good. Very nice place with many different animals. Lots places to have rest and hide from sun. Very nice California trail route. Thank you.
Nice place, just for people with wheelchair little hard, hills up and down .. very friendly staff
