I've seen at least 1 alligator every time I've gone. The refuge has a lot of nature to see and is fun for a slow morning or afternoon outdoors. They have started charging (day or yearly passes) due to federal budget cuts. Stop by the visitor center if you plan on parking your car in the refuge for any amount of time.

Oh the wonderful, numerous memories I could share about Noxubee Refuge, commonly known as The Refuge. By far the best thing about Starkville! There's Barbecuing, canoeing, hiking, biking, hammock(ing), games, fishing, star-gazing, most of which I've done. It's the perfect place to take a break, have a cook out, spend time with your loved ones, and just have a good time. FYI, there's a welcome/information center, visit there!

Such a beautiful place. By far my favorite getaway nearby. Hiking is always available, they have beautiful boardwalks and overlooks, it's a great place for families and kids. You can always manage to find some form of wildlife. They have canoe days during the summer months and a lovely gift shop and visitor center. Well worth a visit!

This is a great place to go for nature walks and a lot of good wildlife photography opportunities there. Make sure to pay the park fee and visit the office. Also picnics are amazing there.

Beautiful place to relax and take a break from city life and one of the areas best kept secrets. Wetlands, boardwalks, hiking, birdwatching, and two lakes are here to enjoy. Located just south of Starkville on Oktoc Road.

Noxubee refuge is an wonderful wetland and an amazing place for a hide out, if you love nature. Very good place for picnic, BBQ or a day out, especially in summer. BBQ grills are provided free. Parking is free. You can go for kayaking/ fishing. But there are alligators in the water, so don t forget to keep an eye ! There are some bird watching tails, but make sure to wear nice hiking shoes to walk in the trail, as there are some snakes and bugs.

A beautiful place for beginner hikers, families, and all around nature lovers! My significant other and I came out here on a weekend to get our hike on. The trails are nice, though there were a few fallen trees we had to maneuver, and the employees are so wonderfully helpful and kind. We saw much wildlife and pretty insects along the way. Not to mention the various kinds of mushrooms along the trails! If you do decide to go, I suggest some bug spray, especially for chiggers. My s/o did get a nasty case of chigger bites, but oh, nature is nature!
