About Northern Illinois Special Recreation
Northern Illinois Special Recreation (NISR) is a non-profit organization that has been providing recreational opportunities for children and adults of all ability levels since 1976. With hundreds of weekly programs, special events, camps, and trips each year, NISR is committed to promoting physical fitness, socialization, and personal growth for individuals with disabilities.
At NISR, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to participate in recreational activities regardless of their abilities. Our programs are designed to be inclusive and accessible to individuals with physical or intellectual disabilities. We offer a wide range of activities including sports leagues, arts and crafts classes, music lessons, dance classes, outdoor adventures such as camping and hiking trips.
Our team consists of highly trained professionals who are passionate about providing quality services to our participants. We have certified therapeutic recreation specialists who work closely with our participants to develop individualized plans that meet their unique needs. Our staff members are dedicated to creating a safe and supportive environment where everyone can feel comfortable participating in activities.
One of the things that sets NISR apart from other organizations is our commitment to community involvement. We partner with local businesses and organizations to provide opportunities for our participants to engage in meaningful volunteer work. This not only benefits the community but also helps our participants develop important life skills such as teamwork and responsibility.
In addition to our regular programming throughout the year we also offer several special events such as dances or holiday parties which allow families an opportunity for fun together while meeting others within the community who share similar experiences.
We understand how important it is for families with loved ones who have disabilities find support networks within their communities which is why we offer family support groups where parents can connect with one another while sharing resources on how best they can help their loved ones thrive.
At NISR we believe that everyone should have access not just recreation but also education about disability awareness so we provide training sessions on topics like inclusion strategies or adaptive equipment use so people can learn more about what it means live life fully despite any challenges they may face along the way!
In conclusion Northern Illinois Special Recreation has been serving its community since 1976 by providing high-quality recreational opportunities for people living with disabilities across all age ranges! With hundreds of weekly programs available there's something here no matter what your interests may be!
