August 2017.

August 2017.
Beautifully ablaze with mile after mile of purple heather covered high top moorland and dramatic valleys & ridges.
Equally beautifully bleak in rain lashed or snow capped winter months.
Home to traditional farming communities, acient villages and small towns.
Good transport links from all quarters with well maintained roads & good walking paths through the moors.
Plenty of pull in laybys for parking up & setting off, or just sitting in the car watching.

The North York Moors leaflet, Moors to Sea, seems to be in its infancy and recommends a Mountain Bike ride from Rosedale Abbey to Dalby Forest. It was described as gentle routes. This route, tho often beautiful, was BRUTAL, very difficult in many places, almost dangerous and appeared unused in places. Even a very experienced and fit rider would have difficulty staying on. Hopefully with use it may improve but needs some human interventions, take great care here. Its a beautiful place but come very well prepared.

Amazing walk across the Moors. Beautiful sights, friendly people and some good exercise. Deciding to take hikes across random fields in the middle and taking a dip in a bog was not a personal highlight but I loved every minute of the day. Great selection of local pubs along the way also - for keeping hydrated of course!

A vast area of many mixed landscapes, deep vales, high moors, hidden villages, a magical steam railway to a fabulous seaside town and so much more. Start with the Pickering to Whitby road and drop off when you see a road sign you fancy. If it's August or September circle back to Hutton-le-Hole over the high moors through the heady aroma of midsummer heather. God's Own Country!

When its a bright sunny day take the kids out, the place is huge. Have a walk, a picnic, a drive out. We are truly blessed to live in such a beautiful part of the country. And if its snowing go aswell, the atmosphere in winter is just as breathtaking!
