Concerned parent. I have been writing emails for days to both the school (Cape Fear Highschool) and the school district (Cumberland County Schools). My child has been emailing his teacher about the same issue for weeks. We have received NO RESPONSE. Moving all over the country due to the military for the last 20 plus years this is the first time I have ever tried to get in contact with a school and received no response. I dont know who to go to next, as not even the superintendent will respond.

I'm seriously looking at the address so I can drive up from FL and get some answers. They do reply, just never with any real answers - still waiting on my credential. With the growth of NC - I thought they would want teachers.
I have been waiting for over 2 months to get an additional degree added to my current NC license. I have called three times to ask why it is taking so long and every time they give me the same excuse, they tell me "it'll be real soon mam, give it another 7-10 business days." This is very frustrating considering I am depending on this add-on. I have applied to teach in another state and it took 2 weeks to approve my license. There is no reason for it to take more than 2 months.
We've got to do better than this. I applied for my NC licence in October of 2018 and finally got it approved in April of 2019...almost 6 months later!!! I paid $100!!!
On top...you have to pay for each additional thing you want done on your license. I got married and my name change cost me $60 and to add years of experience is another $60. I never experienced that in South Carolina or Tennessee! I've been paid at 0 years of experience now for three months since August until they finally approve my years of experience.
Every time I've called I'm on hold for August 15 min before I just give up.
When I moved to TN it only took about a month for my license to be approved and it cost me NOTHING! The districts also deciphered my years of experience without having to wait for the state department!
This has by far been my worst experience as an educator moving and trying to work in another state.
Where do I start? SOME, not all, of the folks that work at NCDPI that answer the phones need to be in the back somewhere. They have no business providing information to the public. They are rude, always sounding like it s a bother to answer questions. Isn t that your job though? Are you not getting paid to answer the questions asked? One female I spoke with recently barely gave me time to say Thank You as she hung up the phone. Like what is your problem? Do you hate your job or come to work upset and stay upset? These people need to be evaluated by the public the same way teachers and schools are evaluated by those forms sent home with students. I believe in doing my job to the best of my ability. It doesn t matter if I m having a bad day, the people I interact with as part of my job don t need to know that. I don t need to be rude to them either because that s not my job. Providing EXCEPTIONAL service is what I am hired to do. Please take notes.
Four years ago my painting was selected to be put on display for arts alive. I was supposed to get my painting back after 9 months but it s been over four years and I ve never received it. I even left my information so they ll be able to get back to me bury they never did. They ask for student to submit their drawing in every year to never return them.
Where to begin... 1. Last year we had a lot of issues with the online schooling. I made this clear. This led to the principal and guidance counselor of Allen Jay Elementary to show up at my home unannounced to harass me. It turned out, they had changed my son's homeroom which had caused us to be unable to navigate the e-learning website.
2.Prior to my son's grade returning to school last year I saw a teacher in a class of younger children unmasked. When I tried to call the school board the employee berated me as if I haven't lost family to covid.
3. My sons pictures have been posted on a public Facebook page despite me specifically marking on paperwork to not have this happen.
4. My final straw, though petty, was calling in today to confirm my daughter's enrollment and being told (by the treasurer) that asking if there is a vaccine requirement is a HIPAA violation. As if I haven't worked in health care for over a decade.
5. I was given the cell number of someone named Weaver Walden who didn't even respond when I brought up the privacy violation of publicly posting my child's images. The only staff member who has been remotely helpful has been the vice principal, but I believe she is not in a position to actually do anything.
Im tired of arguing with ignorance and I am tired of not being taken seriously. The principal and guidance counselor are not allowed to interact with my children and I'm still unsure as to how they still have jobs at this point.
I would not recommend Guilford County Schools to anyone, and have talked several friends out of moving to the state due to this. I will continue to treat your staff the way I am treated until my issues are resolved.
I sent an email to asklicensure@dpi.nc.gov in February 2020 and it has been 4 months and there is no reply yet. I sent another 2 weeks ago still nothing. When I call they put me on hold for literally hours. And I'm not sure why we have to pay for every single change on our licence. Teachers should be supported not taken advantage of! I'm not surprised why no one would like to teach in NC!
Turned in the renewal application 2 months ago and paid the $35. No response other than pending. May as well have dropped it in an abandoned well. At least I would have had the satisfaction of hearing a splash. Never was a welcoming environment anyhoo. Good luck to teachers.
