I had been trying to contact the director of this facility since Dec 2017 to now. I just wanted to set an appointment to surrender my pup. No callback, no reply from emails that was sent. I even visited.the facility to speak to the director face to face only to be given a card to contact her as i did earlier. This is not good business as i had tried not to take this pup to a kill shelter. So without any feedback i guess i have no other choice to either travel to another no kill shelter not in this area or take him to a kill shelter.

We went to adopt a cat. Staff was very nice and helpful. You can tell they love the animals and want to find good homes for them. The vet clinic here is inexpensive as well. Easy to find and convenient to the interstate.

Nice staff providing a necessary service but they ALWAYS make mistakes, so make sure you pay attention to what they say and do so you can catch any errors to prevent mistakes like over-vaccinating, over-treating, like insisting your puppy has heart worms ( oops we have another dog with the same name coming in for heart worms ). Wrong surgery? That almost happened also!

I was disappointed that I left several mess.with all my info asking for a call back due to a sick stray that I was taking responsibility for and couldn't get in touch with anyone or a call back. I left detailed information as to what my call was in reference to but even with it being during operating hours I never heard from anyone . I've heard good things about Norfolk SPCA so it was discouraging.

Great staff, prompt service. I was a walk-in to update my cat's vaccinations. I downloaded my form ahead of time from their website and filled it in at home. Costs are reasonable and they had good advice on flea treatments and such.

Best staff and Services ! They really need a larger facility. Parking, seating, clinic and boarding areas are compromised, and in need of more area. As I mentioned the employees are dedicated and efficient, do their best with limited space and resources.

Went to adopt a dog and the professionalism was terrible. They refused let me adopt the dog I was looking at and reasoning, they said, was that she was thriving sitting in the shelter and wouldn t thrive in my home because I don t have a yard. This is AFTER explaining to them that I go hiking, camping, hunting often and she WOULD be included in those actives. And on top of that I have a large grass area in front of my place that she could run in and have a dog park in walking distance. Not to mention ample hours to properly train and work with her. But as i can see this one star review is similar to many others dating back almost a year. And this will appear to be an on going problem with such young disrespectful management.

They seem to take very good care of their adoptable animals. Adoption process was painless and they are very friendly and will gladly answer any questions.
-1 star for seeing the same people in the waiting area after looking at the available pets and adopting one which took a little over an hour.

I adopted my sweet pup from the SPCA over two years ago. They were helpful and really cared about the right pet going home with the right owner. It's been a perfect match!

The staff is friendly and the walk-in clinic is very affordable, especially with the alumni discount. The SPCA gets very busy during this time and there will be a wait. However, the staff remains calm and friendly while caring for the animals. The other pet parents are often friendly and will chat while waiting. It's sometimes difficult to get information over the phone. Still an amazing place!

The bad reviews I read on here make me sad. These dogs need someone to adopt them. The people at the shelter are trying to secure homes for these poor animals. I got my Dog From this rescue, he is now my best friend.
Sure all the complaints about getting someone from the facility on the phone are pretty accurate. But keep in mind that they are understaffed and underpaid. Its not about your comfort, its about finding a good home for an animal that needs to be loved. If you want to take your pet to a place with no wait, you certainly can do it, and you will pay for it as well. So suck it up people..............

I don t usually do reviews on things but mine and my husband experience was ridiculous. We went in Thursday to look for a puppy to adopt and we found the perfect one and fell in love with him. We played with him, filled out and application, and everything. They told us we were the only ones that had applied so we were 1st. The very next day, my husband goes in to see the puppy and he plays with him and nobody said anything to him except that he had an application and that was us. Later on, I go in with my husband to see the puppy and one of the managers tells us she needs to check our application, comes back and tells we were denied. She said they called our apartment complex and they told her that they did have brews restrictions, which was wrong. There was none. The information was incorrect. We told her many time and many ways that they had the information wrong and all she told us was sorry, they couldn t do anything about it. She said there were already 3 other applicants after us and they just moved on. Mind you, they did not call us or anything to let us know about ANYTHING. We thought we were still 1st and only applicants. It was the very next day. Even though I told her their information was wrong, they wouldn t do anything about it and just said we could check back if nobody takes him. She told us she couldn t just call the other applicant and tell them sorry we are taking him, but yet can not call us and let us know and just move on and it be okay. I thought it was very rude and unprofessional. My husband and I will not be going back to Norfolk SPCA and wouldn t recommend.

I adopted a 7 month old kitten with kidney problems from them last November and they were amazing, they helped with his food while I was foster-to-adopting him and since then have been great for his check ups and blood work. His doctor is Dr. Hoffman and she is so knowledgeable about his case even when she doesn't have his paperwork in front of her. Every one I have been in contact there has been wonderful, so much that I don't mind waiting when they are busy.

I would absolutely adopt from them again and am keeping them as his vet even though I moved to the Peninsula.

Good people with great hearts.

Good people with great hearts.
Communication can be hard, so busy in 2020 that email is most effective. Best parking behind buidling in gravel. Expect visiting 2-3 times over 2 weeks before adopting. If seeking something specific: not you cup of tea. For healthy fur baby additon to family that has some basic training & wont cost premium dollar.

I use the norfolk spca for vaccinations, heartworm test & medication for my dogs. Prices are great, definitely beats going to the vet and paying an arm and a leg when nothing is wrong with your pet. The wait is long but that's to be expected with a walkin clinic, still worth it
