Saturdays are busy but even so....I was in and out in less than an hour walking in with no appointment. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

Do the same as vet office but whole lot cheaper. They know my dog we have had the same vet every time and he 4 yrs old

Change in management from top to bottom has caused a massiv changeover in staff , known to blindside and quietly let staffer go I highly recommend exploring organization that such as NaCc or the Virginia Beach spca

The SPCA saves animals! They get them ready for adoption by spay/neutering them, getting shots up to date and microshiping every animal. They have some amazing staff here!

We visited 6 shelters trying to find the right dog for our family. This shelter was by far the nicest. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The shelter was clean. They had a variety of different types of dogs. It was a great experience. Definitely the place to find your forever fur baby.

The people were very nice and helpful and they had a good selection of cats who seemed well-cared-for. It was a good experience

THIS PLACE IS TERRIBLE!!! THEY NEVER ANSWER THE PHONE... AND THEN WHEN YOU DO GET A HOLD OF SOMEONE THEY ACT LIKE ITS A PROBLEM TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION.. I TOOK MY 6 POUND CHIWAWA THERE WHO HAD A REALLY BAD PUNCTURE WOUND AND WAS GUSHING BLOOD AND THEY BASICALLY TOLD ME THEY WERE BOOKED AND COULD NOT HELP ME AT THE TIME... I LEFT THERE CRYING... HOW CAN YOU TURN SOMEONE AWAY LIKE THAT... ITS NOT LIKE I WAS NOT GOING TO PAY... THEY REALLY SUCK I HAVE HAD 2 BAD EXPERIENCES WITH THEM... I WOULD NEVER TAKE ANOTHER PET THERE AGAIN... THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE THERE TO HELP ANIMALS AND THEY ACT LIKE ITS A HASSLE..... AND THEY WORKERS ALWAYS HAVE ATTITUDES!!

The employees/volunteers in the cat area are always rude and in a bad mood. One of my kids got a little loud as we left cuz she was happy to visit the cats and we got shushed and told to use our indoor voices. This is not the first time someone has been rude towards us or tried telling us something when we havent done anything we shouldn't have.There are never pets available to be adopted into a household with kids under 10years old. The woman at the desk and the small pets handler were very welcoming and nice and we even got to pet the Guinea pigs.

Norfolk SPCA on Ballentine is literally the worst. The hours are always wrong on google and when you try to call them they NEVER answer the phone. You leave voicemails and they never call back. I ve talked to three people about having my puppy s baby teeth removed and I was given three different prices and they all have there own reason why it cost the price they ve listed. It seems to me that there s just a lot of employees there that are not on the same page with information and have a lack of communication. This place is literally the fine example of You get what you pay for . Sometimes cheap isn t the best. I will be finding somewhere else to take my animals too.

'Most' of the staff is friendly. Don't expect your questions answered after picking up a pet...they don't answer your calls, emails, or call you back at all after numerous attempts. This can be emotionally stressful for a new owner that would be forced into spending money on work that was promised by this staff. Make sure they do what they're supposed to before picking up. You most likely will be ignored after the fact...this does not encourage a pet to be able to stay in a new home..and is very disrespectful to new pet owners with no experience.

Good staff and a ford able prices. May have to sit a while but worth the wait to have people who actually care.

The overall mission behind the establishment is great. Every time I visit this establishment it is to pet and visit with the animals I ve always had a great experience.

They took very good care of our dog after she was lost, pickef up and delivered to them. The day after she was lost we found her safe at the SPCA, washed, fed, sleeping in a kennel, having had alk the necessary shots.

Love it. Fast. I love how they even send you reminders via email and mail. Thank you for everything.

This place is fantastic. The staff is so friendly and they truly do care about the animals. It's just great to see. I went to get a cat today but wasn't able to take her home because my dog is out of date on shots. I think that shows they truly care about the animals, not just about freeing up cages but about the care, love, and safety the fur babies will receive in their new homes. A+ rating and I highly recommend getting your next family member here!

Friendly staff, but unorganized, they double booked us to see the vet. And adoption rates are a little expensive.

I was very disappointed as I called ahead for a particular dog. I gave our history and family info and was invited to visit. we went and waited, again with family in tow I mentioned what dog I was interested in and was told it's at least a 30 minute wait. we finally went in and was immediately told the dog has a child age restriction for the benefit of the dog. my child is 9 and has been around 80 to 120 pound dogs his entire life. we didn't even get to visit the dog to see if we are comparable. I will be veryupset if the dog geyts put down.

After petting a pitbull mix ms.alyssa a employee of the facility came up and was very disrespectful to me my mother and my older sister after telling us we wouldnt be a good fit . she hadnt asked us any question and was basing the qualifactions on our profiles and race.

I wanted to check out an animal so I checked their phone line which lists their hours as 1pm-6pm every day but tuesday. We schedualed our day and drove down and were told they close at 4 everyday thanks to covid which ya know would be fine if they updated their hours on the shelter phone number where you specifically hit the number one to get the hours for that facility. I get covid is a pain but every other business seems to be able to competently update their hours in the last several months i dont understand where the disconnect is here.
Itd be one thing if this were a covid based phenomenon but the last time we tried to come here they closed for some event and left no info online about changed hours or on their phone line. Just update your info.

They allowed me the honor of adopting an 11 year old, blind, mostly deaf, Yorkshire Terrier who has filled a whole in our family <3

Lots of people coming togather to help anamals of all sorts. Go check this place out pets some cats or dogs. They let you go out on walks with the dogs.

Friendly staff, but paperwork was not proficient, and they could tell you on the phone that they offer walk in services instead of just telling you about the $20 deposit to make an appointment.

I love this place, and is not just because their prices are low but the staff makes every visit enjoyble, they are the best and they always make u feel welcome .... 5 starts and 2 thumps up .... I'll recomended to everyone

A bit crowded but that is to be expected when vaccinations are as inexpensive as they offer them. Staff is courteous and knowledgeable.

It is a clean place for these homeless babies. The workers there really do care for the animals.

On their website, they have the vet clinic hours info the same as their center hours. But when I showed up in hopes of getting my dog her rabies shot, I was told that the clinic closed at noon. The lady at the desk was friendly though and I can't blame her for the miscommunication. I just hope they out the clinic hours on their page so this doesn't happen to others. I could have just missed it too but I did look at their contact page and hours info and only saw the center hours with a short blurb on their clinic which only said to come during center hours.

Super caring staff...we adopted our new dog from there. Highly recommend.

Good service and reasonable prices. The receptionist was quite pushy when it came to getting flea and tick medication. The prescription oral medication proved to be more hassle than it was worth.

We got our new baby girl Lily, she is a handful but such a sweet girl. The workers/volunteers were very helpful. Even though they were very busy they kept coming back and updating us on when we could fill out paperwork and bring her home!

Very sad, hate to see animals without loving homes

When I heard how much it was going to snow there and how you have staff spending the night at the shelter just in case they can't make it in because of the snow in the morning, I was reminded just how important all those babies are to everyone who works there. Then I heard how they were all in the lobby in P.J.'s playing around having a slumber party it made me want to go too. What a great Idea for everybody <3

Greatplace to get your animals vaccinated during the walk in clinic. Don't go on Saturdays! It's a mad house. Tuesdays are the best 9:30-12:39

Love this place. The workers are so friendly and caring. I live in Virginia Beach but will take the drive to them over the one in my city.
It may not look as pretty on the inside/outside but that's not what they are about.
They helped my baby through the heartworm treatment too so I will forever be grateful. <3

I understand the SPCA wants to find all of their dogs a great home but my experience here was absolutely ridiculous. They refused to let me fill out an application or even play with the dog because apparently having a fenced in back yard, the financial means, and the patience and willingness to train a dog with some behavioral issues isn't good enough for them. This sweet dog is never going to get adopted and it breaks my heart.

I find it's best to make an appointment. If you're a walk-in you can expect longer wait times. I can tell these people love my dog as much as I do.

Staff is well informed and assists with matching forever families

Recently adopted our dog from here and I cannot speak enough about the staff. They made sure we were completely informed and adopted the absolute best dog for us.

My wife and I have been looking for over a year for the right dog for us and, with their help, we found the perfect fit for our family.

I plan to give them as much business as I can because you can tell that they legitimately care for their animals.

They never answer the phone, though. I think it's because they're too busy saving lives.

I adopted a three year old female kitty from them and they definitely cared for those cats. I am just very sad because she has major allergies and cannot seem to get her seen sooner there. I just hate her suffering this way.

Every time I go to Norfolk SPCA I am always pleased! The workers behind the counter are always nice and helpful! Also, the employees that handle your animals are always kind and pleasant! You can't beat SPCA's prices for animal vaccinations! I quit going to my personal Vet because she charged way too much for shots plus I always had to pay an additional $65 for each animal per visit! Too bad that SPCA doesn't take care of sick or hurt animals which means I'd have to take my animals to a private Vet and that would be extremely expensive! I highly recommend Norfolk SPCA as they are the best! You won't be disappointed if you take your animals there and you will save money!

They never pick up phone calls. I called through the day & no one was picking up. I lost my cat that I got from here & they couldn t help. Why do they chip animals if they can t pin point their location?? No it s either my cat is stolen, taken in by another shelter, or worse dead.

Took my cousins cat here that kept getting out to go get some. Any way the extremely young lady tried to twist our arm about getting mamma cat and two kittens fixed then she threatened to send animal control to my house if she didn't here from me by the end of the week to pay the money . I was just like wow threats is how you handle business ?

An other sad place. Most of their dogs are not adoptable.
