NH Barbizon Palace Amsterdam Review

Beautiful hotel, centrally located with extremely friendly staff and a good price / quality ratio

We booked the hotel on the advice of the travel agent that it was a 5 star rated hotel! When we arrived we booked in and given our key, when we entered the room we found the bedding wasn't very clean, it was stained. The sofa had dirty marks in it and non of the floors were clean. We called the front desk and they offered another room. We were taken to another one, Again in our opinion not 5 star. The third room we were shown to was, at best 4 star, on average 3 star. If you compare this hotel to a 5 star London hotel you will be disappointed. It's location is good for transport around the city, but if you pay for 5 star, you expect 5 star!

Good location. Nice staff. Nice room. Fab beds. No breakfast. As expected.

It's staffs are really friendly and helpful. Hand written welcoming message on the desk was really lovely. The room I stayed was clean and comfortable. Requested to have a bath tub, and there it was. UK plug by the desk was helpful too. Bathroom amenities are good. Not luxury, but good. Free bottle of water, Nespresso machine, and a kettle.

Wonderful location just across a canal from the train station. The concierge was extremely helpful giving us detailed instructions to make the most out if our visit. I recommend purchasing your canal boat ride tickets from the concierge. (,You will save time and money. Get the Hop on Hop Off tickets.) The rooms are beautifully appointed the prepaid breakfast is well worth it.

Very good location. The breakfast spread was better than I expected. The hotel staff was courteous and friendly. Very pleasant stay altogether.

The location is so convenience and close from train station. Their facilities are really good. Design of some rooms is special but need to be careful for few stairs after open door. The service of lobby staffs are quite good but room service is in need to be improved. I feel little bad smell in room in first day and missing renew somethings in next day.

Elegant, modern hotel with excellent location. Close to trams, train station, restaurants, cafes and shops nearby. Not too far for a walk along the river. Would come back to this hotel again next time.

Very clean hotel, the staff were always very friendly and the kitchen was very good.

The location is also very central, 1-2 minutes walk from the main train station and about 2 minutes walk from the red light district.
However, the price is correspondingly high. Lovely again.

What a nice hotel! The location is just perfect, close to the central station and in the city center. It's a five star hotel but still very cosy and each room is very individualistic. The food in the restaurants is delicious and the people working there create a home-like atmosphere. I think it's my favourite of the NH hotels in Amsterdam with it's uniqueness and industrial touch.

Waiting for a meeting in the lobby, I got a great double espresso for free.

Good location near the central station not to mention the excellent services, especially the reception. Every staff we have encountered during our 4-night stay is so warm and kind while our requests were always satisfied. Last but not the least, the breakfast was so great that you should never miss. We will surely come back next time when we visit Amsterdam.

We stayed at this hotel for 6 nights in April 2018. Absolutely wonderful experience! And perfectlocation right in front of the main station and canal. On duty staff was very helpful. Especially Mr Richard duty manager took care of all our needs!

Very expensive !!! There are better hotels with cheapper prices than almost 300 euro for 1 night for 1 room for a person.

Air conditioning didn t work on both rooms we stayed in. Only one complimentary water. Superb location

The hotel is beautiful and in a perfect location. Close to the station and small streets in which it is good to get lost. The reception staff cannot be faulted. Perfect welcome, pleasant smile and a nice "hello" every time we pass them. It's the kind of thing that matters and makes you want to come back!
Only downside: the prohibitive price of breakfast which does not make you want to try the experience. Everything else was perfect. To recommend !

Exceptional hotel for a luxury holiday in Amsterdam. It is the departure point of excursions. It is strategically located near the central station and has a spacious lounge, the rooms are spectacular and the dealings with the staff is fabulous.

Ascension Day 1993 when this hotel was still from Golden Tulip, review now no longer relevant, but it was a great experience, as a young man with my present wife (then girlfriend) spent our first night together, was super, luxurious, cared for and unforgettable. Pricey too, if I see the price now it is now a bargain compared to the time when everything has become more expensive over the years. With Ascension Day May 1993 I paid Fl.585.00 guilders for 1 night without breakfast or whatever. Now for 151.00 a night I see. Go surprise my wife, I think.

The place was nice enough and the staff are great but it wasn't as mindnlowing as we had hoped. Our junior suite was huge, but our bed overlooked a busy street and that combined with the single pane windows meant we didn't sleep to well. I would have preferred the seating area in that spot so you could sit and enjoy the view, and still have a quiet night.
One of our bathrobes had what looked like a bloodstain on it, and although it was replaced it was still pretty nasty. There were some other minor details such as chipped cups in our room which I wouldn't mind in a cheap hotel but in a place like this I was expecting to be blown away with the quality.
Pros:
- our room was spacious with a seating area and the bathroom was luxurious.
- The bed was huge, although too hard for myself some people would love it.
- We arrived to a bottle of fizz and a card for our honeymoon which was so lovely and really appreciated.
-Nice view from one end.
-We had room service one night and the risotto was superb.

Overall this hotel was nice and I think some people would have a great experience, and I'm glad we stayed here for our honeymoon. There are areas that can be improved hence the rating but I didn't hate it.

Queen sized bed very comfortable but a bit squeaky. Shower only, but a great one! Nespresso machine in room with 3 complimentary capsules. Free WiFi. Friendly staff at front desk. A couple hundred meters from Amsterdam Centraal train station. Did not have breakfast ( 22,00). Small snack bar at the front desk for early check out.

Location is amazing in the heart of Amsterdam , rates are reasonable and access to everything around ... the hotel staff are well trained and you will be happy with the hotel design interiors are modern
