This company came knocking on my door and it sounded too good to be true. I made an appointment. After doing some online research I decided to cancel the appointment. I called and spoke with someone. It was obvious the system was able to detect my information through my number because she knew my name and address before I spoke. When I told her I wanted to cancel she told me she had to transfer me to another department. I was put on hold for 10 minutes and then disconnected. I have called back three times, each time now I am automatically placed on hold and then it disconnects. I would not recommend giving this company your information.

We like the fact that this company is environmentally friendly. Two men, Cesar & Warren, came to our house to put insulation in our attic. We thought they were hard workers; friendly, courteous, and willing to answer questions. They were nice enough to also remove our two air conditioners from windows and take them to our basement.

We received a substantial discount for the work done. We made an advance deposit toward our amount owed before the workers came, but do not have to pay the balance until a mail invoice arrives.

We think the workers did a fine job. We also want to commend a young woman named Williana Aquino from the company who did an initial, thorough, energy assessment at no charge and left us a power strip and replaced some light bulbs. We are happy to see that this company gives equal opportunity, treatment and pay to women for all positions, and has largely a young, ethnically diverse staff, where there is incentive for teamwork and cooperation. We also appreciate not being pressured to get something done we both can't afford, and don't really need; or having a "bate & switch," where a company lures you in with one offer, when they are only interested in getting you to pay more for a much more expensive offer! We hope others will try using Next Step Living

I scheduled a home energy assessment with this company. When they did not show up 20 minutes past the appointment I called them to see what was going on. I was disappointed that I had to call them and they were not calling me out of courtesy. When I reached a customer service rep he told me that their employees who were supposed to be at my house were having car troubles and would not be able to come for our appointment or any time at all today. I explained that I had taken the day off for this but he said there was nothing they could do, Needless to say, I did not reschedule. This company needs to work on being more professional and dependable.

The guys came for initial inspection and work was scheduled since I signed the contract. But the guys came for the work did not do the work excusing that water heater exhaust is not installed properly in basement. I was expecting an update on possible resolution but did not get any after more than two months.

What surprises me is:
1. If there was an issue that should have been noted during initial inspection
2. There is no work related to basemen in the contract I signed. In fact I specifically asked regarding basement insulation and they said basement is fine and no further work needed.
It seemed to me the guys chickened out since the attic has lot of angles. They took out some insulation for prep work but did not put those back in. I am going to make complaint to mass save and BBB.

Overall, every interaction I have had with them has been good. I think that their business model is solid, and they are offering a very important service that no one else is offering as comprehensively. Some of the bad reviews may have come from a time when they were growing rapidly, but I suspect from my experience that they have worked many of the kinks out. I think everyone should use them, if only to save money and help the planet in the process.

Next Step Living came to my home for energy assessment 2 weeks ago and found that my house has no insulation. They set me up with the insulation appointment right that day. The process was extremely simple and they were able to help me save 80% of the cost. During the 10 days period prior to the insulation job, they called and emailed me to let me know what to expect and what I need to be prepared for. Then yesterday they came to my house on time, Dan and Jose are very knowledgeable and courteous. They checked everything before starting the work, and before each step of the work. They saw something that may cause potential issues and they came to talk to me about it. They also addressed some of the other concerns I have. I am happy now not only because I have a warm home, but also because I know it is done right. Very happy about their service.

This company sucks now? Last year they were great. I called 5 times to get them to come back. I had nothing but praise for them. You can't get a call back. Every time you call they give you a new account manager? I called 5 times over the last 6 weeks. Strange a company could be so stupid .

The evaluation was great. The first time they measured for the window replacements, it was done incorrectly and had to be remeasured. It took 5 months from the contract signing to installation. Now that it is getting colder, I am unable to completely lock one of the windows. No comment from the company when I mentioned this "little" problem

Like one of the last reviewers, they also missed my appointment. They came for an initial appointment, talked to me for a few hours about solar panels, looked around my house, even had be get approved for a loan. I was pretty much ready to go on the panels. They set up this appointment to go over everything with me and get the project started, I left work early to make the appointment, which makes me look bad at work if I do it too often. They didn't show up for the appointment. I know they knew about it, because they left me a message the day before confirming it and asking if I needed to cancel or change anything to call them back. They didn't say call back to confirm. This is super unprofessional. It would be one thing if they were late, or if they called to say something came up, but that didn't happen. And it's not even like they missed the first appointment, they missed the critical sale appointment. I don't want solar panels from them and to be in debt that badly. They can take their business somewhere else.

After buying and moving into my first new house in December 2013, I quickly signed up for an energy assessment from Next Step Living and MassSave. Much to my surprise, there was no insulation in my walls, and very little in my attic. I immediately signed up to have my walls insulated. A $2,000 rebate from National Grid brought the total cost to around $500 out-of-pocket to have all the walls packed with cellulose. My energy adviser also explained there is a zero interest loan and my single pane windows qualify for replacement. Fast forward a few months, and I've now had all my windows replaced with high efficient triple panes, and a high efficiency heat pump system installed which does the air conditioning as well as room heating. I couldn't be happier with Next Step Livings service, the quality of the work, and my more comfortable house.
